Just as the physical earth is made up of past events—the trees and leaves, the plants and creatures that have lived and crumbled into the dust of the soil—so the earth of your dream represents the past on which your present depends and your future is built. Therefore, digging into it will tend to uncover things—most often feelings—you have buried there from your past. The earth is also your mother. It represents the soil, the genetic material, and the background from which you have sprung. It is the womb of the past from which you are born. In other words, it is both the physical material from which things grow as well as the overall environment in which something new can grow.
So if you are digging in your dream, is there something you need to learn about your past? Or is there something you want to find out, a vital piece of information that will complete the picture? If you are uncovering an object or old bones, then you are probably becoming conscious of long buried memories and feelings from your past.
If you are trying to bury something, what are you trying to cover up or hide in waking life? Bear in mind the expressions associated with digging, too. Is someone having a dig at you in waking life? Did your dream reflect your entrenched, firmly held opinions? Or was your unconscious urging you to adopt a more down-to-earth approach? If you are a gardener, you will know that although the earth is the giver of sustenance, security and new life, each life cycle also has an end, so when earth figures in a dream, it may also indicate the end of a phase in life and the beginning of a new one
A dream about digging, watering or feeding the earth may therefore suggest your desire to begin a new phase. It could also depict your fear of unpalatable hidden truths being exposed in waking life. Anything growing from the earth in your dream shows something that has developed from the possibilities of your life, and who you are.
If your dream depicted you planting a seed, try to make a connection with your waking life. The dream seeds may refer to the planting of an intellectual or creative concept that has the potential to grow if placed in fertile ground and cared for. Then again, planting dreams may refer to your thoughts about starting a family. A dream of healthy crops may suggest that your waking ventures or family are flourishing.
If what you are taking from the earth is vegetables or things to eat, these are the fruits of your past efforts, and suggest benefits arising in your life. If, however, the earth in your dream is barren and nothing is growing, this could indicate that you are emotionally and physically exhausted by the demands of waking life.... The Element Encyclopedia
Finding money in a dream, or digging or searching for treasure or riches can suggest power, independence and security. The treasure in your dream may symbolize things you want from life but can also suggest the treasure lying within you, maybe something that has been neglected or repressed such as a positive attitude, self-respect or a talent of some kind. The dreamer in the example was a man in his 40s who had taken up meditation on the suggestion of a friend. It shows him discovering and uncovering a pan of himself he had not known before. In doing so he meets explosive emotions and conflicts he is not used to dealing with. Digging usually depicts delving into hidden or buried areas of ourself. Easy come, easy go is the message contained in a dream featuring the pre- cious stuff as such, i.e., in bars or nuggets, etc.
How- ever, there are many vari- ations dependent on the action and details.
Gold cloth, garments, embroid- ery, or trimmings signify honors and/or recognition; looking for gold indicates that a successful change of unsatisfactory conditions can be made through your own initiative. Finding and/or mining, melting or working with it is a re- minder that “all is not gold that glitters,” and you must guard against a ten- dency to be too easily taken in by appearances.
Hiding it suggests that you are not aggressive enough about protecting your own interests; take positive ac- tion. Stealing or counting gold is a warning that “the love of money” is truly a root of evil and can be very costly.
Items made of gold, such as tableware, jewelry, medals, coins, etc., or gold-plated items, are a forerunner of steady fi- nancial gain.

Gold is the image of sunlight and, therefore, of divine intelligence and life. Consequently, this material symbolizes all things superior, plus the hidden treasure of our true Self (i.e., the spiritual goods and supreme enlightenment). However, its mercantilist connotations can alter all these meanings, so it is also associated with money and jewelry. (See COINS and JEWELS)

The theory goes that it arrived here from space in the early formation of the solar system. As a symbol, gold represents the highest and most precious thing to strive for, both as a material possession and in more amorphous constructs. In the myths of the alchemist, great effort was put toward taking baser metals and turning them into gold.
This is symbolic itself of the notion that lower consciousness, such as fear, doubt, and lack, can be transmuted into the gold of consciousness: love. Unless your bedroom is very hot or cold or you have too many or too few bedclothes, perceptions of being or feeling hot or cold in a dream are associated with your emotions. For instance, a refrigerator, freezer or cooler in your dream may indicate emotional coldness or even sexual frigidity in waking life; if you subsequently have dreams of thawing out or defrosting, this indicates that your feelings are changing and your attitudes and emotions are becoming more relaxed. You may even have put something on ice in waking life and feel you can’t make any more progress with it.
On the other hand, feelings of heat or warmth suggest passion for something in your waking life, or feelings of a sexual or loving nature towards someone. Remember, too, that heat is associated with fire and ice is associated with water. You are connecting to an archetypal character aspect of yourself who connects with wisdom and guidance.
The wise old man and his female counterpart, the crone, are staples in Jungian psychology, as they are the archetypes that represent human wisdom. This is a character aspect shared by every human being on the planet, and it connects us to our inner guidance and our highest thought. We can only connect to this powerful energy when we can learn from our mistakes, a trait often associated with the insight that comes with age and is usually unavailable to us in our youth. An older person whom you know from life may also represent wisdom, but an interpretation of any person must connect to the individual’s traits as you experience them in life. When the old man or the crone appears in archetypal fashion, they will not be known to you personally. They may offer insight, wisdom, or a gift. This archetypal character aspect is often the first one that most people encounter on their inner journey toward integration. This is because all human beings have access to the wisdom that comes with age, making this archetype very accessible within each of us.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

As we move towards maturity, we find that we are freer to explore parts of ourselves that may have been put on hold because of family or work responsibilities. During this stage of their life, men often explore more feminine or softer modes of being—or their anima—in their dreams. This usually occurs in their fifties or sixties, when they can relax more after having attained a level of mastery at work and children may have left the nest.
Women also feel freer to explore the world in bold new ways in this stage of their life. They often feel confident and full of energy; dreams in which the animus expresses itself or in which they find hidden rooms and valuables are not uncommon. Although the menopause marks the beginning of the second part of life rather dramatically for women, men are also subjected to reminders that time is chasing them and these may show up in dreams of being chased by a tiger or escaping a fire. Dreams of losing teeth or body parts at this stage of life may reflect a concern with aging and the loss of their youthful self. Additionally, dreams with themes of impotence or loss of fertility signal a loss of sexual power.
Dreams of loved ones who have passed away may also occur, both as an expression of grief and also as a way to help us accept our own mortality.
Dreams about getting sick or ill may also reflect the typical concerns of this stage. Alongside dreams of loss and adjustment, however, dreams at this stage of life also reflect hope and renewal; for example, dreams in which you discover hidden treasure. You may dream of a well drying up in your garden, but then discover a casket of treasure at the bottom of the well, which suggests the uncovering of hidden resources and new opportunities.

The job of this particular archetype is protection and aggression, but primarily through the ability to divide all things into the two categories of either right or wrong.
A dream with a soldier in it may be asking you to tap into this inner wisdom to face a life circumstance in a very black and white way. Since we live in a time in which war is a very present reality, a soldier also connects to sacrifice at the community and global levels, as they are the individuals in society who are willing to risk their lives to fight for high ideals.

The larger the number in your dream, the greater amount of yourself may be involved; big numbers represent things that are impressive or mean a lot to you. A hundred is a symbol of completion, a full century and a more powerful representation of those qualities associated with the number 10. 666, the number of the Beast, is mentioned in the Book of Revelations in the New Testament. In some interpretations of Christian eschatology, the ‘Beast’ is believed to refer to an entity controlled by the Antichrist and the number is even today considered unlucky or a sign of evil by some people. In the Jewish tradition, however, the number 666 is considered a mystical and holy number and is considered to be God’s number. It also refers to creation, since the world was created in six days.

Expression of oneself, not simply ideas, but subtle feelings or realisations. Spontaneous speech, voice that speaks through or to one: our personality or mind is not a totally unified whole. Some aspects of self we may not identify with. Because we disown them, they become split from our main expression. Contacting them may be like meeting a stranger— thus in dreams they are shown as exterior to self, or a separate voice, perhaps disembodied. Also some aspects of self express spontaneously—see autonomous complex.
The voice may therefore be one’s intuition; expression of unconscious but not integrated parts of self; fears; the Self being met in the dream.
Example: ‘I was going mad. I was crawling around on my hands and knees and wailing and behaving in a most peculiar manner. I actually felt mad. But inside my head a tiny voice kept saying, “You aren’t completely insane yet—there’s still a chance.’’ People around me kept saying to each other, “We think she’s possessed by devils.’’ My sane voice then said *’Make the sign of the cross, cast out the evil spirit.” I kept trying to do that but my hands wouldn’t or couldn’t complete the sign. I woke still feeling disturbed’ (Margaret F). Margaret has fears about her sanity.
The voice here is that of her unconscious, speaking from a more whole view of her being. Such a voice might very well be the voice of one’s fears and confusion, however.
Example: ‘My present lover, Tony,’ and a man I had loved years before were standing side by side.
A voice was telling me to go to Tony (Miranda L). Here Miranda’s unconscious is summarising her feelings and helping her transfer her feelings of love connected with the past to her new lover. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

This dream could have different connotations. So, if you hear a voice that you do not recognize, it could mean that your subconscious is trying to tell you something of vital importance. On the other hand, dreaming that you are losing your voice reflects a notable lack in determination and security in yourself. (See SCREAMING, SOUNDS, and CALLS)... The Big Dictionary of Dreams
The voice is the tool we use to express ourselves, so when you hear voices in your dreams the unconscious aim is to draw your attention to the information being given. From a psychological point of view, when you repress certain parts of your personality they can surface in dreams as disembodied voices; dream voices could therefore be drawing your attention to aspects of yourself that you are neglecting or denying in your concern with everyday distractions.
If the voice was that of God or an angel, this may also be an expression of your intuition or unconscious wisdom that is not yet integrated into yourself.
Recognizable voices may remind you friends or family who have been neglected.
If you hear a call or cry as if from a great distance, your unconscious may be suggesting that someone you know is in distress. It could also indicate that you should not be so proud and seek support from others when you need it.
If the voices in your dream come out with nothing but babble or gibberish, this suggests barely controlled rage that needs to be confronted and dealt with if it is not to erupt and create chaos in your waking life.... The Element Encyclopedia

If you find them too frightening, consult a (Jungian) therapist. People may let themselves be ‘possessed’ - taken over - by the Wise Old Man / Woman and become insufferably domineering, self- important and opinionated. Alternatively, failure to acknowledge the ‘divine’ wisdom and power within yourself may lead you to project it on to some authoritarian - but not necessarily authoritative - public figure, or guru, or personal acquaintance. Whatever such a mana figure says to you in a dream will be extremely important and will almost certainly open up a new dimension of life for you.
