A tunnel may be related to a birth memory or to some passage of rebirth. Also, a tunnel may signify a symbolic death in which you usually find the proverbial light at the end.

A tunnel allows for movement underground and safe passage underneath a body of water or other above-ground landscape. Being inside of a tunnel connects to a transition into new territory in your life.

The part of this transition represented by the tunnel itself is the most difficult part, often characterized by a sense of loss and lack of direction. Very often when you are inside a tunnel that is symbolic of a transition, you may not know where you are coming from and, even more frightening, where you are going to wind up.

The thing most often looked for while in a tunnel is the light at the end, so there can be a sense of hope in uncertainty.

If there is a light at the end of the tunnel in dreams, it indicates we are reaching the final stages of the exploration we have undertaken.

If something is blocking the tunnel, some past fear or experience is stopping us from progressing.

There are a number of things to consider when interpreting the symbolic meaning of a tunnel. First and foremost is what two landscapes are being connected by the tunnel itself. The above ground elements are parts of your conscious environment that you are aware of; one as origination and one as destination. Be sure to expand your interpretation to include what obstacle the tunnel is bypassing. If a tunnel goes under a river, look to where emotional issues are being avoided. If the tunnel runs beneath a city environment, the area being subjugated may connect with the way in which you structure your life and how you navigate your movement through daily tasks.

Depth Psychology: The dream might be a memory of your own birth. It may also mean that you want to explore you unconscious so that you can understand yourself better. Are you afraid of uncertainty, of the future?

If one enters the tunnel that he dug in the dream, it means that he will fall in his own trap. Ifone enters a tunnel or a burrow and cannot see light at the end of it, or if a traveller digs a hole, enters it and can longer see the skies or the stars above him in the dream, it means that thieves will rob him from his luggage, or that he will be highjacked, or stopped by a band of highway robbers.

If one sees himself taking an ablution or a bath inside the tunnel or in the hole in a dream, it means that he will arrest the robbers and recover his property. Ifone enters a tunnel and takes a bath inside it in a dream, it means that he will pay his debts, or repent for his sins, or ifhe is incarcerated, it means that he will be released. Ifone digs a tunnel and draws water from it or discovers a hole filled with still water inside it in a dream, it means that he earns his livelihood from trickery and deception.

A secret way to get from one place to another (literally or figuratively).

A creative way around an obstacle or challenge (or a desire for one).
