Anesthetized, Cold Or Dead Body

The image of an anesthetized body can represent a deadening of feeling, or a loss of passion and creativity in waking life. The same meaning applies to coldness of the body, with the implication of emotional coldness, lack of enthusiasm or distancing oneself from others.

If the coldness is in the lower part of the body, this suggests sexual coldness and again, lack of passion. Coldness in the chest (heart) suggests lack of feelings or feeling cold towards someone.

Cold feet indicate a fear of doing something or indecision. The image of a dead body in a dream depicts feelings and potential to which we have not given expression in daily life.... The Element Encyclopedia

Common Traveling Dreams

Traveling dreams can be incredibly insightful because they show you what is keeping you from getting what you want in life. Always take note of the mode of transportation used and whether the vehicle is designed for one person or many as these will say something about the approach you are using to handle a certain situation.

Perhaps the most common of all traveling dream is the one in which you miss your plane, boat or train. No matter how frustrating this dream is, it is actually trying to help you get what you want. Look closely at what you should have done in the dream to make your connection; if there is clearly something you could have done differently to ensure you were on time, your dream is encouraging a shift of emphasis, understanding or action in waking life.

Another common dream is taking the wrong bus, train or plane.

This dream is particularly common to people who have problems making decisions in life because they are worried about what other people think. Your dreaming mind is urging you to correct this tendency by focusing on what you think is right. Yet another common dream involves being on board a boat, ship or plane and the person in charge becomes unable to pilot or steer. You are suddenly called upon to steer. This dream suggests that you are about to be thrust into a position of authority and that others are relying on you. For dreams of crashes or disasters whilst traveling, see also DISASTERS.

Dreams of traveling to a safe harbor or haven highlight the need for comfort and security in waking life. Remember that the trials, frustrations and challenges that you face in the dream symbolize real- life impediments and emotions that are slowing you down or helping you along your way. When interpreting traveling dreams, always consider the reactions and solutions that the dream calls upon you to make to improve your dream journey. The necessary ingredient to encourage your progress is often a symbolic representation for the action or position in waking life that will be most beneficial to you.... Common Dreams

Dead

To dream of the dead, is usually a dream of warning.

If you see and talk with your father, some unlucky transaction is about to be made by you. Be careful how you enter into contracts, enemies are around you. Men and women are warned to look to their reputations after this dream.

To see your mother, warns you to control your inclination to cultivate morbidness and ill will towards your fellow creatures.

A brother, or other relatives or friends, denotes that you may be called on for charity or aid within a short time.

To dream of seeing the dead, living and happy, signifies you are letting wrong influences into your life, which will bring material loss if not corrected by the assumption of your own will force.

To dream that you are conversing with a dead relative, and that relative endeavors to extract a promise from you, warns you of coming distress, unless you follow the advice given you. Disastrous consequences could often be averted if minds could grasp the inner workings and sight of the higher or spiritual self.

The voice of relatives is only that higher self taking form to approach more distinctly the mind that lives near the material plane. There is so little congeniality between common or material natures that persons should depend upon their own subjectivity for true contentment and pleasure. Paracelsus says on this subject: ``It may happen that the soul of persons who have died perhaps fifty years ago may appear to us in a dream, and if it speaks to us we should pay special attention to what it says, for such a vision is not an illusion or delusion, and it is possible that a man is as much able to use his reason during the sleep of his body as when the latter is awake; and if in such a case such a soul appears to him and he asks questions, he will then hear that which is true. Through these solicitous souls we may obtain a great deal of knowledge to good or to evil things if we ask them to reveal them to us. Many persons have had such prayers granted to them. Some people that were sick have been informed during their sleep what remedies they should use, and after using the remedies, they became cured, and such things have happened not only to Christians, but also to Jews, Persians, and heathens, to good and to bad persons.’’ The writer does not hold that such knowledge is obtained from external or excarnate spirits, but rather through the personal _Spirit Glimpses_ that is in man.--AUTHOR. ... Dead

If you dreamed that you were dead, this is actually a positive omen. It symbolizes renewal and letting go of an old stage of life. This is also a common dream when you are getting over an illness, and are getting better. However, if you dreamed of dying slowly, you need to drastically change your routine and reenergize your life.

To dream that someone you care about is dead, suggests that you are lacking a certain quality that the loved one represents. Ask yourself what makes this person special or what do you like about them.

It is that very quality that you are lacking in your own relationship or circumstances.

To see dead people in your dream who you do not know in real life, forewarns that you are being influenced by negative people and are hanging around the wrong crowd. This dream may also be a way for you to resolve your feelings with those who have passed on. However, if you spoke with someone who is dead, you may soon hear very good news.

To dream of someone dead coming to life again suggests that you miss them and are trying to relive your old experiences you had with them. Also look up “Zombie”... My Dream Interpretation

Dead

(Person / Animal) / Death

(1) Does the dream contain a dead person you actually knew? If so, the dream may mean you should take notice of what he or she said or did, or of what happened to him or her. The dead person is ‘coming back1, not to haunt but to advise and help you.

There’s really nothing ‘spooky1 about meeting dead people in dreams. Such encounters may help you to fulfil a long-desired deep relationship, or to put something right. For example, you may learn to forgive the person and as a consequence get peace and healing for yourself.

(2) If a deceased partner or parent appears in dreams, (1) above may apply. Bear in mind also that the dead do live on - inside us; and that it is important to realize when this is a healthy and life-enhancing thing and when it is purely negative, stunting our own personal development.

If it is the latter, resolve to have it out with the person the next time he or she appears in a dream.

(3) If the dead person in the dream is actually a living person - and especially if that person is your partner or parent or sibling - the dream may be expressing unconscious resentment towards that person, or a desire to be independent. Feelings towards someone close are often ambivalent: love or respect mixed with fear or hatred or resentment or jealousy.

The usual conscious response to such a dream will be anxiety, and you may even feel anxiety in the dream itself. However, Freud was convinced that in such cases anxiety was a cloak for unconscious - because repressed - hostility’. (On the Oedipus complex) See also Murder.

(4) The dead person may be you (and could stand for you even if in the dream he is distinct from the dream ego). In that case, consider the following possibilities:

(a) What is being expressed in the dream may be your own anxiety’ about dying. Death is inevitable, and facing up to that fact may bring great rewards: self-acceptance; new values; a broadening of one’s personality’, compensating for past omissions or lopsidedness and utilizing hitherto neglected personal resources. This would be specially applicable if vou were in the second half of life.

(b) The message may be that y’our old self needs to be left behind. This mav mean that you must stop carrying around with yrou the crippling burden of vour past (irrational guilt-feelings and martyrdom complex, or any other negative self-programming); and, instead, you must open yourself to what the present moment is offering. Alternatively, the ‘old self5 may be old attachments, habits, ambitions, values, goals; in which case the dream is telling you that the only way forward for you lies through giving these up and looking deeper within yourself for better values, etc. (where ‘better5 means more in tune with your real self).

(Primitive rites of passage, which mark transitional stages in a person’s life - birth, initiation into adulthood, marriage, death - all contain death-and-rebirth symbolism and express a recognition that the dissolving - ‘death5 - of past attitudes is a necessary prelude to the development of new attitudes more appropriate to one’s new stage in life. The symbolic death of the initiate in these rites may also be seen as a descent of the conscious ego into the unconscious: it is the unconscious that provides the means for new growth - ‘rebirth5. See also Sacrifice.)

(c) It is just possible that, if your own death features repeatedly in dreams, it is an expression of an unconscious wish for death. Freud speculated in Beyond the Pleasure Principle that there might be, in everyone, just two contending basic drives: one towards life and love and pleasure (‘Eros’), the other towards death (Thanatos5). This is highly controversial, but it is indisputable that many people display a strong masochistic tendency.

Are you compelled to repeat a painful experience? Do you tend to interpret what other people say as a criticism of yourself? If so, you may be suffering from repressed guilt-feelings and an unconscious urge to punish yourself - which may sometimes take the form of a fate-neurosis and / or a wish (unconscious) to see yourself dead.

If you feel this applies to you, talk to a friend about it or consult a psychotherapist. See also Suicide.

A wish for death may be a retreat from life’s problems and pains, or a response to (a sense of) failure.

If this applies to you, bear in mind, first, that a very sensitive person may also be burdened with an over-severe conscience (the product, perhaps, of having a stem father or a sin-and- guilt religious upbringing). In that case, see the previous paragraph. Secondly, what makes a thing a problem is usually one’s attitude towards it. For example, suppose you have been made redundant.

If your reaction is to see this as a punishment, see the previous paragraph.

If you see it as failure, try to change your attitude or perspective by asking what creative purpose may be being served bv your redundancy: perhaps, for instance, the demolishing of an inadequate or false self- image in order to make way for the construction of one that corresponds more closely to your individual ground-plan or ‘destiny’.

(5) If the gender of the dead person is stressed, the meaning may be that your masculinitv / femininity or your animus / anima needs reviving.

(6) A dead animal in a dream almost certainly refers to some part of you - an instinctive force, perhaps - and the dream will be telling you either that this part of you (e.g. guilt-feelings or inferiority complex) ought to die, because its effects are wholly negative; or that it is a valuable but repressed part of yourself that you must now bring to life, to rectify an imbalance in vour personality.... Dead / Death

Dreams about the dead or about death are not usually omens of literal death, although they may indicate anxiety about death. Violent death may represent anger and aggression, although much depends on the more general tone or “atmosphere” of the dream. When the dreamer dies but is not particularly unhappy or distraught in the dream, death often symbolizes the letting go (or “death”) of an old part of the self or the destruction of a prior stage of life.

This kind of dream death is, in other words, a symbol of self-transformation.

A lifeless corpse, on the other hand, may represent a feeling of devitalization—a kind of death in life that comes from adhering to a lifeless routine. (See also Burial, Coffin, Crypt, Grave, Hearse).... Dream Symbols in The Dream Encyclopedia

Dead End

If you come to a dead end in your dream, your unconscious is telling you there is no way of escaping your fears, even though you feel that it is vital for you to flee. The same interpretation applies a number of similar dreams; whether you are caught in quicksand, forced to carry an impossibly heavy weight, suddenly become paralyzed, find yourself rooted to the spot and powerless to do anything, or find that your feet have become heavy or stuck in the mud when trying to flee someone or something.

If you have such disturbing dreams it is possible that you are facing some kind of emotional crisis in your life that requires a drastic decision; for example, whether you should leave your partner or not.

If you are being chased, identifying who or what was chasing you or why you need to escape may help you decide what course of action to take in real life.

If you don’t know who the person chasing you is, this may stand for certain unpalatable aspects of your personality which have been repressed but which are now forcing you to deal with them. Alternatively, your unconscious may be reflecting on your feelings of powerlessness in regard to a difficult situation in your waking life. Dead Husband Or Wife

Many dreams of dead people come from women who have lost their husband.

It is common to have disturbing dreams for some period afterwards; or not be able to dream about the husband (or wife) at all; or to see the partner in the distance but not get near. In accepting the death, meeting any feelings of loss, grief, anger and continuing love, the dream may become as below.

The example both shows the resolution of the loss, but also the paradox felt at realising the meeting was an inner reality. Example: ‘A couple of months ago as I was waking I felt my husband’s arm across me and most realistically experienced my hand wrapping around his arm and turning towards him (which I had done so often in his lifetime) and saying “1 thought you had died. Thank God you have not.” Then I awoke alone and terribly shaken’ (Mrs I).

A critic might say this is only a dream in which a lonely woman is replaying memories of her dead husband’s presence for her own comfort—thus her disappointment on being disillusioned. Whatever our opinion, the woman has within her such memories to replay. These are reality.

The inner reality is of what experience was left within her from the relationship. Her challenge is whether she can meet this treasure with its share of pain, and draw out of it the essence which enriches her own being. That is the spiritual life of her husband.

The aliveness’ of her husband in that sense is also social, because many other people share memories of him. What arises in their own lives from such memories is the observable influence of the now dead person.

But the dead also touch us more mysteriously, as in the next example. Example: In a recent news programme on television, a man who survived a Japanese prisoner of war camp in Singapore had been given a photograph of children by a dying soldier he did not know.

The man had asked him to tell his family of his death, but did not give his name.

The photograph was kept for 40 odd years, the man still wanting to complete his promise but not knowing how. One night he dreamt he was told the man’s name. Enquiries soon found the family of the man, who had an identical photograph. See husband under family. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Example: ‘My husband’s mother, no longer alive, came and slid her arms carefully under me and lifted me up. I shouted “Put me down! Put me down! I don’t want to go yet.” She carefully lowered me on to the bed and disappeared’ (EH). Most dreams in which dead people appear are expressive of our attempts to deal with our feelings, guilt or anger in connection with the person who died, or our own feelings about death. In the example the dreamer is feeling fear about being carried off by death.

When someone close to us dies we go through a period of change from relating to them as an external reality, to meeting and accepting them as alive in our memories and inner life. In the next example the man has not only come to terms with his mother’s and his own death, but also found this inner reality. Example: A dark grey sugar loaf form materialised. This pillar lightened in shade as I watched. It didn’t move. I began to think it was Mrs Molten who died in 1956.

The feeling grew stronger but still the colour lightened. Then it bent over and kissed my head. In that instant I knew it was my mother.

An ecstatic joy and happiness such as I have never known on earth suffused me. That happiness remained constantly in mind for the next few days’ (Mr M). ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Dead Person / Corpse

To dream of a dead person or corpse usually represents some aspect of your life that has died. It can refer to the death of feelings in connection with someone, to the depression that follows big changes in your life or to the feeling that you are going nowhere. Alternatively, the dead person may be a part of yourself that you want to leave behind or it could be a warning that you are taking too much from life and not putting enough back.

If you dreamed of the death of a loved one who is seriously ill or advanced in years, your unconscious may have been preparing you for their future departure from your life. By exposing you in the dream to emotions that will overwhelm you, your shock may be lessened and thus easier to bear.

Dreams such as this one may also be urging you to tell loved ones how much they mean to you before it is too late. If, in your dream, you felt no emotion at all when a loved one died, the interpretation is likely to be different, as it represents something in your life that is coming to an end or that should end. An alternative explanation is that you fear the death of your relationship, particularly if your partner has withdrawn emotionally from you in the waking world. A dream in which you became a widow or widower or suffer bereavement can indicate feelings of loneliness in waking life.

If you are in a relationship, such a dream may suggest that there is a lack of understanding or a communication breakdown between you and your partner. For dreams of a dead person see GHOSTS.... The Element Encyclopedia

Deceased Relatives

At times we dream about deceased relatives or friends simply because we miss them. These dreams may be disturbing but most likely are a form of wish fulfillment or are based on memory through which we relive old experiences. Some people believe that in dreams they meet up with the deceased on the inner planes and engage in “real” interactions with them.

It is normal to miss and long for the people that we loved and that have left the physical body. Therefore, it is not surprising that they will pop up in your dreams from time to time.

Freedom from worry is forecast in a dream concerning cousins; aunts and uncles signify money matters; and other relatives (apart from immediate family) are an omen of help when needed.

Relatives

Often relatives symbolize facets of your personality or personal characteristics of which you may or may not be proud. The interpretation of this dream will vary if it is close family members or distant relatives, and based on what they symbolize to you. It may deal with a family reunion due to some event (like a wedding or a funeral), in which you feel strongly sheltered and protected, or, on the contrary, surrounded by distant family member in whom you can identify many defects you detest. Restraint / Restriction

In addition to the meanings given under Imprison and Prison, there is the possibility that the dream is referring to restraints and restrictions in your external circumstances, or to those mental and physical limitations that begin to manifest themselves from the age of forty-five onwards. Restrictions and limitations may have the positive value of drawing

your attention from egotistic pursuits to things that matter more: for instance, loss of intellectual sharpness does not disqualify you from gaining self-knowledge; and the latter may be helped by the collapse of egotism. However, if you judge that the restrictions are purely negative, take steps to remove them or to find alternative supplies of satisfaction.

If neither of these options seems to avail and the only remaining option is to accept the inevitable, this may well be life’s way of reminding you of what is important in life.... A Dictionary of Dream Symbols

Time Travel

Dreaming of time travel is representative of our journey through life.

If you traveled back into the past, you need to heal old wounds or get yourself together before you can achieve what you want in your current life.

If you dreamed of traveling into the future, your dream could be an escape from daily life or a need for adventure and new stimulations.

If you are constantly having dreams about time traveling, take a closer look at the current situations in your life. Are things going well, or are they more difficult than you would like them to be? The ability to move through time is a fascinating dream symbol, for in dreams time has no limitation whatsoever. Time Travel

If you were traveling in time to the past in your dreams, try to remember if you travelled to a time within your life span or to an era before you were born.

Traveling into your own past can be linked to a desire to connect with a situation in your childhood or youth that remains unresolved. Traveling into an era before you are born could suggest the possibility of reincarnation, but also an association between that period in time and your life at the moment. It might be worth getting the history books out to do some studies to see if any connections or lessons emerge. Traveling into the future can indicate impatience but also optimism and anticipation.

If the future scenario was depressing, this represents your fears and anxieties concerning your personal or the world’s future. From a mystical point of view, sometimes in dreams past, present and future become one and the idea of time vanishes; only when this happens can the individual fully concentrate on the present.... Train

This dream symbol can be very complicated and its meaning is specific to the dreamer (as all dream symbols are).

If you normally take the train to work and it is a part of your daily experience, closer attention should be paid to the other details of the dream. Going on a train ride may be symbolic of your life’s journey.

If you are the engineer, you may be reassuring yourself in the dream state that you are in control of a specific situation or life in general.

The train could also be symbolic of your need to move on and to do things in an orderly and sequential manner. Freud said that the train is usually a phallic symbol and that a train going through a tunnel represents intercourse. Freud also said that there are other possibilities to this symbol.

For example if you missed the train in your dream, you may be fearful of missing important opportunities. Jung thought that the train ride represented the way a person moves and behaves just like everyone else and that you the dreamer may be striving for wholeness.... The Bedside Dream Dictionary

Vision: In a man’s dream, a train is often a sign of fear—fear of having missed something.

The train you have missed in the dream is the equivalent of a missed opportunity in real life. Traveling in a train: you are advancing quickly in life. Watching a train leaving the station: a separation is unavoidable. Seeing a train: you will have to say goodbye to someone. Being on a train that goes through a tunnel: you are giving away one of your secrets. In a woman’s dream, a train is a sexual symbol, particularly if it is driving into a tunnel.

Depth Psychology: Riding in a train is symbolic of your life’s journey. You are changing your emotional bearings—don’t miss your connections! The lead engine symbolizes your vitality; the railroad cars your experiences and adventures: the tracks the values that guide you and give you direction.

Train

Your future is going forward. Given that the train follows a fixed route, this dream suggests that you are receiving help and direction in your vital life. As a means of collective transportation, on the other hand, this image symbolizes the need to share projects, ideas, and thoughts. From it you can deduce the need to speak more often with your loved ones, fleeing from the isolation that threatens you. On the contrary, being the only occupant of the train is a sign of great timidness or ego.

If you miss a train, it indicates the frustrated hope for change or the desire to leave a real situation, but without a clear sense of direction. For Jung, the figure of public vehicles expresses that the dreamer has not found her own way yet, and that her behavior is the same as everyone else’s. According to Freud, dreams that imply movement represent sexual relations. In fact, Freud believed the train to be a phallic symbol.

As with trams and buses and other forms of public transport, dreams about trains suggest that you are no longer controlling your life and have become too dependent on someone or something else, such as your parents, your partner or a job. According to Freudians, trains with their huffing and pumping are phallic symbols, and a train entering a tunnel is a symbol of sexual intercourse. A broken-down or cancelled train may actually be a positive sign in dreamland, as it suggests that you are considering making your own way under your own steam. To dream of missing a train or passing a destination may also suggest missed opportunities.

If the train is stuck on a platform, this may suggest a problem that needs ironing out before any further progress can be made in waking life.

Train Tracks

Train tracks symbolize a desire for change or the imminent sense of danger that upcoming change portends.

If the train represents change itself, then the tracks connect to the possibility of shift and change that could be occurring but at present is not yet happening. Train tracks have a measure of danger connected to them because a train could come along at any moment, putting you in peril. In this way, a dream that takes place on train tracks could be pointing to the possibility that some dramatic change is on its way and, when it arrives, has the potential for causing fear or destruction.

The tracks that carry a train indicate all the places a train might go. One interpretation relates to the potential for movement and travel. Trains

A train will often highlight our attitude to social behaviour and relationships with other people. It will also clarify our attitude to ourselves.

A steam train would suggest that we feel ourselves to be somewhat outdated and old-fashioned but still viable, whereas an up-to-date electric turbo might suggest speed and efficiency. Catching the train shows we have been successful in having outside circumstances co-operate with us in achieving a particular goal, whereas missing the train indicates we do not have the resources to enable us to succeed in an appropriate way, either because we have forgotten something or because we have not been sufficiently careful. We fear that we will miss an opportunity. Equally, we may feel that external circumstances are imposing an element of control over us. Often dreams of missing a train and then catching either it or a later one, suggest that we are managing our inner resources better. Dreams of missing a train, alternating with those of catching one, show we are trying to sort out our motivations. Getting off the train before its destination or it has reached a station implies we are afraid of succeeding at a particular project. We do not appear to be in control. Getting off the train before it starts suggests that we have changed our mind about a situation in waking life. Railway lines and tracks will have significance as ways of getting us to our destination. Being conscious of the way the track runs ahead may give us an inkling as to what direction we are going. Recognizing the signals up ahead would have the same significance. Coming off the rails might suggest doing something inappropriate or of not being in control. Not wanting to be on the train might indicate we feel we are being unduly influenced by outside circumstances. Arriving at a station indicates we have completed a stage of our life journey. We may be ready for a new relationship with the world in general.

Many people dream of traveling in planes, cars, trains, or motor bikes. Traveling seems to be one of the most common dream themes.

It is representative of our journey through life. These dreams could represent your current movement toward goals or passage through life. Difficult traveling conditions such as a dark road, a bad storm, or an accident in a car, or other vehicle may be symbolic of the difficulties that we experience in our daily journey through life. Other times dreaming about traveling to a fun place and having a great time could be a form of compensation or wish-fulfillment. This type of a dream can be an escape from our daily life and form of transcendence into a beautiful dream world.

If you are constantly having dreams about traveling, take a closer look at the current situations in your life. Are things going well, or are they more difficult than you would like them to be? Sleep is already, of a fashion, a trip to the center of oneself. Consequently, there are many meanings associated with this dream. In general, it represents your vital travel. Finding yourself in the middle of a wide road suggests the wellbeing of your progress. If, in contrast, the road is full of rocks, it is trying to say that the path is arduous and difficult. A luxurious environment, on the other hand, indicates that you are pleased with your situation; but, if it is an arid desert, it expresses loneliness and lack of creativity. The hardness or smoothness of the path will manifest the tenseness or relaxedness that you are, respectively. The destination of the trip could be to find one’s true self.

If the lands that you encounter on you path are strange and unknown, everything could be an invitation of the subconscious to explore. In mythology, a trip to the west signifies a return to your ancestry, while a trip to the east denotes rejuvenation. The interpretation of the places, cities, or countries that you visit will add valuable information.

The ancient interpretations of dreams coincide with the modern ones. For example, the ease with which you realize the trip will be the same that you will find, in some future, in real life. In addition, the medieval mystics said that dreaming of a happy group of friends taking a trip signifies that you will soon experience a happy existential period.... The Big Dictionary of Dreams

Making a journey within a dream can be a direct replay of a real journey, but in most cases the journey is a symbol of the dreamer’s travels through their inner world.

According to Freud, dreams of a pleasant journey suggest steady progress in psychoanalysis; but the imagined motion of the journey also represents a wish for sexual intercourse. For Jungians, dreams of journeys act as a message telling you that it is time to take note of new possibilities and reach out for new challenges that can help you towards our spiritual destination. In some cases, dream journeys reflect how easy or difficult you are finding your life. Many modern dream analysts might see in such dreams a desire for change in some aspect of your life, a desire to ’move on’.

When trying to understand the meaning of your dream, it is important to take note of your mode of transport, whether you are walking or in a vehicle, the pace at which you are moving, the direction you are taking, any obstacles in your path, the weather, any luggage you were carrying and the person or people with whom you were traveling. Travel is a common dream theme that relates to how you are moving through life.

It is best to break this symbol down into very basic segments.

The location you are leaving is likely tied in with your past and elements of your life that you are letting go of and moving away from. Your destination, if there is one, may offer clues to where you are heading or desire to be. An unknown destination can point to a need to move your life into new territory, even though you may not currently be aware of what that might look like.

The emotional qualities of the traveling can provide a good snapshot of how your unconscious is responding to your current life path and the movement inherent on your journey.

The mode of travel will reveal issues around the way your life is supporting the desires you have.

The effectiveness of your vehicle and the control you are able to exert over your direction may be a reflection of how these themes are playing out in your waking life.

The obstacles that present themselves are to be considered as a barometer for challenges you are facing that may be impeding your progress. Being stuck or unable to control where you are going might connect to some element of your life that is stagnant.

The speed of travel is important to determine how fast an area of life is moving.

A train might indicate things speeding out of control, whereas a cruise ship could feel impossibly slow. Very often, only a small part of a journey is what appears in a dream. In this case, the context and location will help identify what specific path of life needs to be examined by stopping and paying closer attention.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

Traveling And Water

In Greek mythology, river crossings are often associated with death or a journey into the unconscious and they may have this same association in your dreams. It takes great physical effort to row a boat or canoe, and your dream may be emphasizing how demanding your journey of personal growth is. For Freudians, a rowing boat or canoe is a phallic symbol, and the act of rowing or paddling a canoe indicates masturbation. A dream of a barge or towpath suggests heavy emotional burdens slowing your progress in life, whilst if you are swimming in your dream, this is often interpreted as representing a desire for sex or a wish to return to the safe waters of the womb.

According to Jung, swimming towards land suggests a desire for rebirth or renewal, but swimming against the tide suggests personal struggles.... The Element Encyclopedia

Withered Or Dead Flowers

To see withered or dead flowers in your dream denotes disappointments and gloomy situations. You may not be utilizing your full potential and talents.

If you receive wilted blooms in dreamland as a gift from someone you know, think about the nature of your relationship with that person; your unconscious might have detected that the relationship is weakening. Similarly, if you are pricked by a hidden thorn in a bunch of roses given by colleague who was congratulating you in a dream scenario, is it possible that they are concealing real feelings of resentment towards you in waking life? If you gave a bunch of dead flowers to a difficult or strict former schoolteacher, could this highlight your extreme dislike of that person? To see flowers blooming in barren soil, however, signifies that your energy and cheerful nature will enable you to overcome your grievances.... The Element Encyclopedia
