Ancient Building

The pyramid is said to be a focus of spiritual energy, so it if appears in your dream, your unconscious is drawing your attention to the power within. Dreams about old or ancient buildings refer to the past and experiences that have been lived through, such as a former life with another person. Ruins suggest a now irrelevant way of life or approach to life. The ruins may belong to a castle, and this suggests that the defenses you once built up are no longer necessary.

Mansions and palaces in dreams have a similar interpretation as houses, but with the emphasis on those possibilities within us that have yet to be developed and explored. There is a sense of something special or wonderful happening within yourself, as palaces are places of enchantment and treasure in fairy tales. However, palaces may also represent a warning against adopting a pretentious façade and living beyond your means.... The Element Encyclopedia

Building

The element of a good building in a dream represents love, affection, unity, progeny, prosperity, a garment of honor, and girls in one’s family.

A strong edifice means strength and firmness. It also means support, help and a long life. Raising a new edifice in a dream represents either personal or collective material benefits in this world. Ifone sees himselfbuilding an edifice in a dream, it means having intercourse with his spouse. Ifone builds a church, it defines him as Christian.

If he builds a mosque, it defines him as Muslim.

If a man of knowledge sees himselfbuilding a mosque as an offering to please God Almighty in a dream, it means that he will compile a study from which others will benefit or that people will seek his advice in religious matters or interpretations.

If a king, or a ruler sees himselfbuilding a mosque as an offering for God’s pleasure in a dream, it means that he will rule his subjects with justice, command what is lawful and forbid what is unlawful.

If he builds a school, it shows him to be a man of knowledge.

If he builds a hospice in a dream, it means that he is an ascetic.

If a sick person sees himself building a house in a dream, it means that he will recover from his illness and enjoy good health. Seeing buildings in a dream explains one’s determination, it also means one’s wants for himselfwhen he rejoices at finding something suitable for status. Ifone sees his house bigger than it is in reality in a dream, it means expansion in one’s material resources.

If it grows beyond the normal norms in a dream, it means anxiety, or a delegation that hastens to enter that house without permission, announcing a calamity, or it could mean that a wedding will take place in that house. Buildinga house in a dream also means extendingone’s connections, strengthening one’s relationship with his kin, friends, or if the person in question is a general in the army, or a leader, then it means building a strong army. Building a house in a dream also means regaining power, rejoicing or success in one’s business, all of which are relative to the thickness of its walls. On the other hand, demolishing one’s house in a dream means disagreement, disintegration or separation of one’s family, relatives, friends, associates or dissolution of one’s army.

If one sees himself working for some people to renovate an old building in a dream, it means correcting the norms of conduct in that community or reviving old traditions.

For example if one sees himselfreconstructing the house of Pharaoh in a dream, it means that he is reviving or reestablishing Pharaoh’s system of government, or adopting its principals. Erecting a foundation for a building, then completing its structure in a dream means seeking knowledge, wisdom or leadership. Building a house in a different county, town or locality in a dream means a marriage with a woman from that neighborhood. Building an edifice from ceramic in a dream means decorating oneself.

If the building is from clay in the dream, it means lawful earnings.

If one engraves pictures or forms thereon in the dream, it means acquiringknowledge, learning a new craft, a leading position in the government which involves partying, alcohol and mingling with what is unlawful. Building an edifice from plaster or backed bricks encrusted with pictures or forms in a dream means engaging in an unlawful or a deceitful act. Building a house in a dream and strengthening its walls, means to complete the father’s traditions, and to continue working in his trade.

Building

Dreams of a building symbolize your body and/or your life.

If you are in the lower levels, then this represents your exploration of the foundational, primal, sexual and instinctual aspects of yourself.

If you are on the top of the building, then you are connected to your higher awareness, solutions, and spiritual realizations.

If you are half way up, then you are either feeling stuck in the middle or you are finding a balance between higher consciousness and mundane reality. Because the building represents your body or your life, the condition of the building is very telling.

If it is in ruins, then this shows you have a lot of work to do to get your life up to code.

Building

In contemporary society, we live much of our lives in one sort of building or another. Thus, buildings in a dream may simply be stages for other kinds of dream scenarios (i.e., they do not necessarily have a symbolic meaning in and of themselves). Particular kinds of buildings may also symbolize the institution or business they house (e.g., a school building may symbolize public education). Buildings, especially houses, may also represent the self, particularly the physical body. In many-storied buildings, movement between floors sometimes symbolizes rising or falling in status or awareness.... Dream Symbols in The Dream Encyclopedia

However, if you are adding on to an existing house that is in bad shape or falling down (the roof is caving in): a warning that plans or decisions you have made recently are going to hurt you or result in losses. Building Up

It involves construction and progress.

If in the dream you are dedicated to building a house it means that you are rebuilding your life, so you have new projects. Buildings and houses present in dreams are symbols of the Self. The higher floors are your conscious. The lower levels, your unconscious mind.

If going down to the basement produces an unpleasant feeling or frightens you it means that there are aspects that make you frustrated. A good solution is to develop activities and new knowledge. The building’s condition also expresses how you value yourself emotionally.

If it is in ruins it indicates suffering because of your image. You need to do things that make you feel better. On the other hand, it could also refer to your physical condition. The different parts of the building, finally, can represent life’s time periods. Modern rooms are your present and conscious side. The oldest, your unconscious past. (See CONSTRUCTION)

Buildings

Buildings in dreams represent the constructions we make in our lives. They are attitudes and beliefs we have built from our experience, perception, and often from our family habits and customs. Where in real life we can learn a lot about a person from his personal environment, so in dreams a building can also reflect the dreamer’s character hopes and concerns.

The features of the building mirror the features of the dreamer’s personality. Buildings in dreams can become composite, and therefore confusing. In understanding the dream, we should interpret the main appearance of the building first, as its main function, and the secondary appearance as qualities to be recognised. Various buildings have distinct meanings:

Boarding house or Hotel - also see individual entry in

To dream of a boarding house or hotel indicates that we may not feci secure within our living conditions.

Castle, Fortress, Citadel

The symbolism of the castlc or fortress is that of the defended spacc and therefore can be taken to represent the feminine or the Great Mother.

Courtyard

In dreams, the courtyard is a place of safety and often the shape will be relevant (see Shapes).

Church, temple etc. also see Church Buildings in C and Church in Religious Imagery As an environment for us to consider our system of belief, any religious building will suggest a place of sanctuary and refuge. Although we may not consciously adhere to any particular religion, most of us have principles by which we live, which will surface in dreams in recognisable images.

House

If we are aware that the house is not empty - that there is something in it (e.g. furnishings) it shows some aspect of the dreamer. Someone else in the house suggests that the dreamer may be feeling threatened by an aspect of his own personality.

If there are different activities going on it indicates there is a conflict between two parts of our personality, possibly the creative and the intellectual.

The front of the house portrays the front we show to the outside world.

Going into/out of the house

We may- have to decide whether we need at that time to be more introverted or more extroverted.

An impressive, awe-inspiring house In a dream like this we are conscious of the Self or the Soul.

Moving to a larger house

There is need for a change in our lives, perhaps to achieve a more open way of life, or even for more space. Being outside the house The more public side of ourselves is being depicted.

A small house, or the house where the dreamer was born

The dreamer is seeking security, or perhaps the safety of babyhood, without responsibility.

If the smallness of the house is constricting

We are being trapped by our responsibilities, and may need to escape.

Work on the house; cementing, repairing, etc.

Relationships may need to be worked on or repaired, or perhaps we need to look at health matters. We may need to take note of the damage or decay that has occurred in our lives.

Igloo - also see individual entry Because of its shape, the igloo stands for completeness and sanctuary.

It is warm on the inside and cold on the outside and therefore signifies the difference between the internal and the external.

Pyramid The pyramid is considered to be a focus for power, so for one to appear in a dream is to be concentrating on the power within.

Temple - see Church Buildings in C and Church in Religious Imagery

Tower (obelisk, steeple, lighthouse, etc.)

Any image of a tower is representing the personality, and the Soul within. While there are obvious connotations that conncct it with masculinity, it is more corrcct to perceive it as the Self within a wider context. When thought of in this way attention can then be paid to other attributes of the tower, such as where windows, doors and staircases are placed. This leads to a greater understanding of the Spiritual Self.

Warehouse

The warehouse being primarily a storage place has the symbolism of being a repository either for spiritual energy or for spiritual rubbish.

Components of buildings Balcony (or ledge, sill, etc.)

We all have need for support within our lives and a balcony indicates both support and protec- tiveness. It can also represent the Mother in her protective aspect. Construction or demolition of a building. We all have the abil- itv within us to construct successful lives and equally an ability to self- dcstruct.

A dream that highlights construction or demolition gives us access to those qualities and abilities within ourselves. Doors also see individual entry Doors refer to the openings of the body and therefore, by default, one’s scxualitv.

The front door and back door signifies the vagina and the anus respectively. Breaking down the door can be taken to indicate an inhibition over sex and an unwillingness to face the issues. It can also represent rape or abuse.

Opening and closing the door

While often taken to stand for intercourse. this can show the dreamer’s attitude to sex.

Refusing to open the door

Although the dreamer may not technically be a virgin, for this to occur represents an innocent approach to their scxualitv.

A door between the outer and inner rooms shows there mav be a conflict between the conscious and the unconscious. Barring the door This highlights the dreamer’s need for self- protection.

If an animal or person forces his way in and destroys the lock

Our own protective mechanisms have let us clown. Escaping by another door indicates the dreamer needs to find a new solution to the one he thought of to solve a problem.

Someone knocking on the door signifies that the dreamer’s attention is being drawn to an external situation.

Hall/Passages

Any passage can stand for the passages within the body; for instance the vagina or the anus. Equally; on a psychological level, it signifies how we allow our personal space to be penetrated. Passages also represent the transitions between the various stages of our lives.

Lift A lift usually indicates how we deal with information.

For instance, a lift going down would suggest going down into the subconscious, while a lift going up would be moving towards the spiritual.

It is believed that in the sleep state we leave our bodies. Thus, descending in a lift and getting stuck represents the entrapment of the spiritual by the physical body.

Rooms in a dream can describe various parts of our personalities or levels of understanding, but often signify either the womb or the mother figure. Thus the kitchen would be the home- making part of us whereas a sitting room would be the more relaxed, comfortable side.

A small room with only one door or a basement with water in it is a direct representation of the womb, and may indicate a return to the womb-like state.

A series of rooms

This refers to the various aspects of femininity and often to the whole soul. Anything in an upstairs room An upstairs room usually signifies mental or spiritual attributes, so any object will represent an idea or concept.

The basement or cellar This meaning can be ambivalent, since a cellar can represent the parts of ourselves that we have chosen to suppress. It can also represent family beliefs and habits, particularly if the basement is that of the parents. Leaving one room and going into another If this is a deliberate action in the dream, then it represents a change of state and of leaving something behind. Empty rooms Something, such as comfort or support, is lacking in our lives. Stairs Stairs are often an indication of the steps we must take in order to achieve a goal. Climbing the stairs is indicative of the effort that we must make in order to have access to the more mystical, spiritual side of our being. It can more simply be the exertion we practise in our everyday life. Going downstairs Conversely, in order to have access to the hidden unconscious side of ourselves, we need to ‘go down’ into the unconscious.

A golden staircase

This is such a basic image, with so many interpretations, that particular attention needs to be paid both to other aspects of the dream, and also the dreamers spiritual state at that specific time. Largely it represents a ‘death’, but not necessarily a physical death.

It is more the realisation that we no longer need to be trapped within the physical, but can move towards a more fulfilling life.

It is a way out of the mundane.

Walls A wall signifies a block to progress a difficulty we have or will come up against. Often the nature of the wall will give some clue as to what the block is.

For instance, a wall which looks old will signify an old problem, whereas a glass wall would indicate some difficulties with perception. Walls closing in could describe the remembered feelings of birth, but is more likely to represent a feeling of being trapped by the lifestyle we have.

A brick wall, rampart or dividing wall all signify the difference between two states of reality often the inner psychological state and the exterior everyday world.

Windows Windows will describe the means by which we appreciate the world we live in, the way we perceive reality. Dreaming that we arc looking outwards through a window can suggest that we have a more extrovert view of ourselves and will tend to look at external circumstances. Looking inwards through a window indicates we are looking inwards at our own personality, and perhaps at our own motivation. Opening a window The interpretation depends on whether we are opening the window from the inside or the outside.

If the former, we are dealing with our inner feelings which we may need to escape; the latter shows our attitude to outside opinion.

Breaking through a window (or glass door)

This can suggest the first sexual experience.

Stained glass windows

Because of the connection with churches, stained glass can be accepted as religious belief (also see Colour).... Ten Thousand Dream Dictionary

Buildings

(see Apartments, Barn, Castle, Church, Monastery, Te?nple)

The condition of the building can reveal the condition of your health, a relationship, or a situation.

What does the building hold? If it is just an empty shell, consider if you’re living superficially, without gaining any real spiritual substance.

Of what is the building constructed? Just like the story of “The Three Little Pigs,” you want your hopes to be based on good foundational material if they’re ever going to materialize in reality.

Are the doors and windows of this building open and accessible? If so, this shows a very open-minded person who may be too exposed. Similarly, a building that appears locked up tight indicates narrow views and large obstacles to intimacy.

What type of building is it? Certain structures carry fairly direct meanings.

For example, hotels, motels, and mobile homes represent temporary conditions, change, movement, and transition, sometimes literally in our living space.... The Language of Dreams

General Meaning: Established works or visions in your life. Different buildings will represent different visions or ministries.

• If you are dreaming of being in a building from your past, it is possible that hurts or what happened back there is being stirred up once again in your life.

If you dream of the house you grew up in, it could indicate that you are either facing conflicts from the past or perhaps putting things from the past to rest.

• Look up the subject of Healing Dreams in the Way of Dreams and Visions for more on this.

• Office Buildings • An office building is where you work and speaks of your life in the workplace and world.

• It is also a good picture of business and wealth. In the Old Testament such business was conducted at the city gate.

• Positive: We have often seen a ribbon cutting ceremony in front a new building.

• This is a picture of a new ministry or division of the ministry that the Lord has established in the spirit.

If you are in intercession and see something like this, then the Lord is calling you to birth the new vision in the spirit.

To release it through decree.

Negative: If you see a building being demolished, you need to decide of this is a good or a bad thing. At times a prophet will be called of the Lord to speak destruction on a work that is not of Him.

• If you are a prophet you might see a building being built or torn down in the spirit.

Buildings

Carl Jung talked about recurring dreams he had in which he would discover parts of his house that he didn’t know existed.

In these dreams he believed the house represented his personality, and the new things he discovered in the house related to new developments in his work.

Many dream researchers subscribe to Jung’s theory and believe that buildings in dreams represent aspects of the self, or constructions we make in our lives. The upstairs represents the conscious mind, and the lower floors and cellars the unconscious, or hidden, mind. Different parts of the building might represent different times in your life, and the attitudes and beliefs you have built from experience. The features of your dream building can also mirror features of your personality; by so doing, they reflect your character, hopes and dreams, and how you feel about yourself.

If you dream of a house or a building, ask yourself what aspect of you the building represents. Does it represent how you see yourself? Is it a symbol of your body, mind or spirit? If the house is crumbling or decaying, are you in need of some kind of psychological, spiritual or physical cleaning and renewal? If the building is burning, does this show your desire to get rid of something that is holding you back? If the building is in ruins, do you feel worthless and manipulated by others? If the building is tall, does this suggest ambitions yet to be fulfilled? Is the house symbolic of your feelings in childhood or other past experiences? What are the conditions like in the house? Ask yourself what personal associations the buildings in your dreams have and what they represent to you.

The environment and your feeling reaction to the building in your dream will all contribute important clues as to its meaning, but it is also important to bear in mind the purpose for which the building is used in waking life. For example, castles and fortresses suggest protection and royalty, whereas factories suggest work and routine. Although high-rise buildings are believed to be phallic symbols, as a type they all have different functions: skyscrapers are homes and workplaces, lighthouses offer hope to sailors at sea, and towers isolate, elevate and imprison.

Churches and religious buildings offer us hope and quiet reflection, libraries and museums supply us with information and stimulate our minds. Courts provide social justice, whilst public buildings symbolize work, tax, bureaucratic or legal matters that need to be sorted. Hospitals are centers of healing and castles are historical icons. Houses, bungalows, flats, mansions and palaces offer different types of accommodation for different types of needs. Prisons are places for criminals to learn the consequences of their actions, and hotels provide a welcome break from home.

If any of these buildings appear in your dream, this chapter will help you interpret the meaning; but for domestic buildings, homes and shops you may want to refer to HOME and MONEY AND SHOPPING. For places associated with entertainment, such as cinemas and theatres, you may want to refer to ARTS AND CRAFTS and LEISURE, and for places of work and learning consult SCHOOL AND WORK.... 1- A church represents our feelings about organised religion. In dreams it can be a placc of sanctuary, particularly in the sense that we can have a shared belief with other people. This may be as much to do with a shared moral code as with a code of personal behaviour.

2- A church building may or may not be considered to be beautiful, but its image links with our appreciation of beautiful objects which mark and enhance our sense of worship. We link with the forces of life within us which enable us to live life more fully.

Components Of A Building

If you dream of a balcony, ledge or sill, this suggests a need for support and protection in your life. An elevator or lift in a dream usually suggests how we deal with information.

If the lift is going down, we may be going down into our unconscious for self-understanding, whereas a lift going up could represent moving towards greater self-understanding. Halls or passageways in a dream can, for Freudians, represent passages within the body, such as the vagina or penis. On a psychological level, they can suggest how we let others invade our personal space. On a spiritual level, passages can represent the different stages of our life. A hall is the center of a building and to dream of entering a hall may therefore represent the beginnings of a journey towards self-awareness.

According to dream lore, to dream of a long hallway suggests a period of worry ahead.

Walls in dreams indicate potential blocks to your progress, or difficulties you may be up against in waking life. They suggest obstacles that are stopping you from getting what you want. This may be something from real life or something within yourself. Perhaps you are being like a brick by refusing to show your feelings, or have come up against a brick wall with a particular problem or issue.

If the wall looks old, this suggests the problem is old.

If the wall is made of glass, this suggests problems with perception.

If the wall is closing in, the dreamer may feel trapped by their current lifestyle. A brick wall, rampart or dividing wall all suggest the difference between everyday life and the inner psychological state. According to dream lore, if you find a gateway through a wall, this is a sign of good fortune. See also entries for doors, rooms, stairs, staircase and windows in HOME.... The Element Encyclopedia

Exploring A Building

Dreams about exploring a building are encouraging you to explore your own personality or resolve an ongoing conflict. In other words, the dream is encouraging you to make more of your attributes and abilities, as unexplored potential and new ideas lie within you. This is especially true if you find yourself exploring unfamiliar rooms in a well-known house in your dream.

If the building is run down or dilapidated, this may suggest a personality or body in need of attention, but if the building is well cared for and clean, it suggests confidence and good self-esteem. A building under attack may suggest that someone or something is trying to break in.

If a building is under construction or being demolished, this refers to your own ability to construct and destroy your life.

If the building is familiar, the reference may be to the actual building itself; for example, if you dream of a structural fault, you might want to get the design checked out.

If the building you are exploring in your dream is a public building such as a factory, law court, prison and department store, the building often represents the function suggested by its nature, such as work, education and healing. Bear in mind, though, that if these images appear in your dreams, they will also have personal connections and feelings associated with those buildings. For example, if a factory feels like a museum, both associations should be considered. Finally, consider carefully how you react to the building in your dream. Were you intimidated by it or did you feel comfortable? If the former, your dream may be warning that you are over-reaching yourself in waking life. The latter is more reassuring.... Façade (building)

If the house is a reflection of the soul, the façade represents the image we project and the way we relate to people around. A façade in good condition is an indication that you are satisfied with your relationships. Likewise, if in ruins it indicates that your external image is poor and does not satisfy you.

If the façade does not match the interior of the house, the dream indicates a mismatch between what you are and what you project.... The Big Dictionary of Dreams

Female Sexual Partner

In a woman’s dream, female lovers are symbols of what you deeply crave, need, hope for or avoid. In a man’s dream, female lovers are about your relationship with the feminine aspects of your personality, and a satisfying sexual experience in your dreams with a woman you know or don’t know suggests harmonious union between the masculine and feminine aspects of your personality. Sex with more than one woman suggests an element of wish- fulfillment but it may also point to conflicting desires within the male dreamer. Female Sexual Symbols

Flowers, lilies, figs and ripening fruits all have female sexual symbolism. The red rose is a traditional symbol of romantic love and passion, suggesting to Freudians the female sexual organs. A rose with thorns in a man’s dream suggests an ambivalent attitude towards female sexuality. Velvet is a soft and sensual fabric, and is associated with pubic hair by Freudians. Other dream analysts link velvet and moss in dreams with a desire for comfort and peace.

Purses, according to Freud, are symbols of female genitalia or the womb; when the purse opens, this suggests sexual availability and when it is snapped shut, this suggests withholding.... The Element Encyclopedia

Gay Sex

Any sexual act in a dream connects symbolically to the process of integration and the joining together of different aspects of the personality. In the case of gay sex, what is being highlighted is elements of the masculine principle such as taking action and aggression.

It is not unusual for heterosexual men and women to have dreams about gay sex, and such dreams are not necessarily related to sexuality or the waking-life expression of it. However, if the dreamer identifies as a gay man, then such dreams should be explored more literally.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

Gay Sex

If you are heterosexual and had a dream in which you were having sex with a person of the same sex, this may suggest that you are sexually attracted to members of your own sex but have repressed this inclination.

If this is the case, your dream may have been fulfilling your unconscious fantasies and was encouraging you to be honest with yourself. Many psychologists believe that we are all bisexual at a deep level; a dream like this may have given you the opportunity to explore in a safe environment an experience that your conscious mind finds objectionable due to social conditioning. If, however, you are convinced you are not gay or lesbian, your dream may simply have highlighted the intimate nature of your friendships with people of the same sex or your desire to meet someone similar to yourself. Your unconscious may also have been highlighting the fact that if you are in a relationship, you sometimes you feel closer to your friends than you do to your partner.

If you are homophobic in waking life or in your dream, your unconscious may have been urging you to be more open-minded.

If you are gay and dream of making love to a person of the same sex, this will have much the same interpretation as dreams concerning heterosexual sex and partnerships.

If you are gay and have dreams of heterosexual sex, your unconscious may be highlighting unconscious attractions or emphasizing the closeness of your emotional bonds with friends of the opposite sex.... The Element Encyclopedia

Homosexual

If you dream that you are gay (but you are not in your waking life), or hanging out with a group of gay people, it is symbolic of self-love and self-acceptance. You are becoming comfortable with your sexuality and femininity.

If in your dream you hate the idea of homosexuality, then it represents your fears and rejection of parts of your own femininity and sexuality.

If you are gay in real life, then the dream is simply a reflection of your own self.

If you dream that your real-life boyfriend or husband is gay, you could be feeling rejected by him in real life, either because he is physically cold or you sense he is keeping some of his emotions secret from you. Your subconscious mind might be telling you that he’s keeping a secret from you in some way. Or, you could just be feeling insecure about the strength and nature of the relationship. Homosexuality

Sex in many different forms is frequently the topic of dreams. Sexual dreams don’t always have sexual meaning. They are at times about power, control, identity and other non-sexual issues of life.

If you are homosexual, dreams regarding this particular sexual orientation are not atypical. They are simply the extension of your thoughts and feelings in the form that is the most familiar and meaningful to you.

If a heterosexual person is having a homosexual dream, it may have a variety of connotations.

The interpretation of this dream, as with all others, is very personal and generalizations are difficult to make. This dream may be about loving yourself, especially if the other individual in your dream is a stranger.

The dream may be about integrating ideas and attitudes, and in a few, rare cases may be about sexual orientation. Sexual dreams are either wish-fulfilling, compensatory, or non-sexual, but rather are about issues mentioned above. See also: Sex, Intercourse... The Bedside Dream Dictionary

Homosexuality

At the heart of this aspect of the human condition from a symbolic perspective is the joining up of either the feminine principle or the masculine principle in greater force and emphasis. This is not sexual at all; the masculine principle is related to doing and the feminine principle is related to being. From an archetypal perspective, the individual who is homosexually oriented has the gift of being able to vibrate with both of these principles as a natural part of his or her energetic birthright, so a dream featuring some reference to homosexuality may be expressing this higher nature associated with such an orientation. Of course, sexuality is a complicated issue for many people, and a dream that expresses such themes may be operating on many levels. You will need to examine your own sexual mores and prejudices if you are not homosexual and such a dream should occur for you.

If characters within your dream are known to be homosexual, you must interpret them as aspects of your own personality that are aligning you in either the direction of a need to be more or to do more, or to bridge the gap between the two with a higher level of intuitive grace.

If you are made uncomfortable by the content of the dream, you may want to consider ways in which you are having anxiety about your own masculinity or femininity in a way that may or may not be sexual in nature.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

House, Buildings

A house nearly always refers to oneself, depicting one’s body and attributes of personality. Thus if we take a large house with its many functional rooms, the library would represent the mind, the bathroom cleansing or renewal of good feelings, the bedrooms one’s sexuality or intimacy, the roof one’s protectiveness or ‘coping mechanisms’. Large public buildings such as hospitals, factories, blocks of flats, depict particular functions suggested by their nature. But of course, if the house or building has a personal connection—the house you live in, or place you have worked—then you need to define what are the essential feelings about such. Or see dream processing.

If a house or building has a quality of some other type of construction, such as a library feeling like a factory, or a house a church, both aspects should be accepted as important. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Lesbian Sex

This is symbolic of the integration of character aspects of the feminine principle. Any sexual act in a dream connects symbolically to the process of integration and the joining together of different aspects of the personality. In the case of lesbian sex, elements of the feminine principle such as nurturing, caretaking, and creativity are being highlighted. This symbol is included as a separate term, as it is not uncommon for heterosexual women to have dreams of lesbian sex when life events focus on this energy.

Dreaming of sex with another woman is often reported by women during pregnancy.

If the dreamer identifies as a lesbian, then such dreams should be explored through the concepts outlined in the terms Sex and Intercourse. Watching lesbian sex is a waking-life fantasy for many heterosexual men. However, this image has more to do with integration of inner aspects of the feminine principle for a man when such a dream appears.

It is a natural process of evolution for every man as he matures through life to become more in touch with his feminine nature.

A truly integrated man has access to his own creativity, receptivity, nurturing qualities, and sensitivity.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

Male Sexual Symbols

Weapons are often seen as phallic symbols and a stabbing, penetrating knife can represent violent male sexuality. Guns are another image of aggressive male sexuality with the added orgasmic symbolism of firing a bullet. Wielding a gun or a knife in a man’s dream can, however, indicate doubts about virility

A cigar or cigarette can symbolize a penis; even Freud admitted that his passion for cigar smoking was a substitute for masturbation, although he did once joke that a cigar is sometimes just a cigar. Cars can represent the penis—especially if the car has a powerful, thrusting motor. A weathercock in a woman’s dream is thought to be an especially powerful sexual symbol.

Darts, fingers, snakes, guns, hammers, screwdrivers, horns, icicles, javelins, spheres, engines, lorries and poles are all phallic symbols, as are spires and towers standing tall.

Quills and pens are obvious Freudian symbols, especially if they are dipped in ink. Jungians suggest that the quill can represent the archetype of the animus, the male aspect of the female psyche. Cell phones can be interpreted as phallic dream symbols as they often take the place of a loved one and can evoke sexual yearning or stand for the act of masturbation. The image may also represent frustrating attempts at sexual intimacy.

Drinking from a cup, glass or horn can represent oral sex with a woman. Socks or other items of clothing which fit the body part snugly are often interpreted as symbols of female genitalia; such items may stand for the act of intercourse if they are being put on or off. Gloves and shoes are other common images of this type. Shoes can also suggest authority and sexual domination.... The Element Encyclopedia

Oral Sex

This dream image connects to the integration of verbal qualities and power and communication issues in general. While some elements of sexual dreams are just that—sexual dreams expressing unrealized desire—there is symbolic meaning to each aspect of this symbol. Sex represents the desire for union, the joining together or integration of separate ways of being or other personality aspects.

The oral aspect of this particular act indicates that communication is the area you are investigating.

If you are orally pleasuring a penis, you may be appreciating and experiencing a need to take more aggressive power into your speech. To be orally pleasuring a woman’s genitalia means that the receptive, sensitive, or creative elements of your personality want to be recognized and embraced.

The active position indicates a higher level of urgency than if you are the recipient.

If taking on new ways of communicating can be seen as an ongoing process, receiving oral pleasure connects more to the beginning of that process, while giving it might be associated with the end.

The object of your affection will give you a great deal of clarity on the matter at hand. This is where many people are disturbed or even horrified by sexual content, for many dreams have us partnering with people from our life with whom we would not ordinarily have sex. However, to the unconscious mind, sex is a symbolic expression of union and has none of the societal or personal stigma we may attach to it.

If the person is known to you, use his or her character aspects to indicate what qualities you are integrating into your communication.

If the person is a stranger, use whatever information you can recall from the dream to inform your investigation.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

Other Symbols Of Intercourse And Sex

Flying dreams were declared by Freud to be one of the classic examples of sexually inspired dreams. Other symbols associated with sexual intercourse according to Freud include hammering and chopping, sliding down a banister or slide, a train entering a tunnel, a lighted candle and riding a bicycle or horse.

Horses, especially stallions, may be a symbol of sexuality and mounting a horse represents intercourse. Spectacular explosions are associated with orgasm. In the form of fireworks this suggests exhilaration but destructive explosions can express the desire to dominate. Water gushing from a tap, champagne spraying white foam or cascading waterfalls are also orgasmic symbols.

Dream analysts have noticed an association in women’s dreams between dreams of a plane crash and rape or fear of it. Freudians would interpret a man’s dream of a plane crash as fear of impotence. Churches with a steeple and an arched portal combine male and female symbolism and such an image may express conflict between sexual expression and moral responsibility.

Dreams in which you become invisible may simply indicate that you feel unnoticed by those around you, but they may also suggest an element of sexual voyeurism.

Religious Building

Any religious building suggests a refuge where you can gather your thoughts and consider your beliefs. Even if you are not religious, in dreams religious buildings highlight your spiritual, peace-loving and idealistic potential. Most of us have principles we live by and these may surface in your dreams in the symbol of a religious building.

If you are walking past a church or religious building in your dream, this suggests that you are not making contact with the best part of yourself. Is your waking life so crammed with obligations that you don’t have time to explore your inner world for some much-needed reflection, meditation and contemplation? If you entered a temple in your dream and immediately felt enveloped in a sense of calm, was your unconscious suggesting that you would enjoy better health if you treated your body as a temple, putting your physical, emotional and spiritual welfare first? Dreams about religious buildings may also be an expression of anger against dogma; again it depends on the feelings evoked by the building in your dream. Did you feel relieved or tense? If a vault features in your dream, it may represent your highest spiritual ideals, as vaults often appear in churches or temples with painted stars in imitation of the vault of the heavens. A vault may also recall a crypt or burial chamber, and as such, it may conjure up thoughts of death. See also RELIGION.... The Element Encyclopedia

It is very difficult to name just a few possible interpretations for this dream.

It is so complex that interpretations vary with each dreamer and situation in the dream.

A sexual dream may be about physical pleasure, but it may also be about power, control, manipulation, virility, and effectiveness. It may be a form of wish fulfillment or a memory, or compensation for a lack in daily life. In most cases, it is not a prediction of things to come in the near future.

Sex

in dreams Although sex is symbolised in many dreams, where it appears directly it shows that the dreamer is able to accept their sexual urges and hurts more easily. What is then imponant is to attempt an understanding of what setting or drama the sexual element occurs in. Our psychological and sexual natures, like our physical, never stand still in development unless a pain or problem freezes them at a particular level of maturity. Therefore our sexual dreams, even if our sex life is satisfactory, show us what growth, what new challenge, is being met.

Example: My lover was standing behind me, and John, my husband, was standing in front of me. I was asking John to have sex with me and at the same time thinking, “Oh, hell, if he does he will think we have something going between us.” I felt no flow towards John but felt somehow I was trying to tell my lover that I was desirable’ (Sally A). Sally’s dream needs no interpretation. Such clear dreams show that Sally is ready to be directly aware of what she is doing in her relationships.

If the sex in the dream is deeply symbolised, it suggests the dreamer is less willing to be aware of their motivations or connected painful feelings. Even though Sally’s dream was clear, it was still dealing with an area of her sexuality she was not clearly conscious of.

If she had been aware, it is doubtful whether she would have dreamt it.

Example: ‘I was in a farmyard.

A small boy climbed all over the bull. It became terribly angry. It had been chained without attention too long. Now it tore away and sought the cows.

The gates were closed, but the bull smashed through the enclosing fence. I rushed to the fence and sat astride it, but on seeing that the bull smashed it like match wood, I looked around for some safe place.

The bull charged the first cow to mount it, but so terrible was its energy and emotion that it could not express as sex. It smashed the cow aside as it had done the fence. Then it rushed the next and tossed it over its head, charging and smashing the next. I climbed into somebody’s garden, trying to get out of the district’ (Arthur J). Although this dream depicts Arthur’s chained’ sexual drive using the bull, it is still fairly obvious.

If we consider the setting and plot of the dream, as suggested above, we see that Arthur is desperately trying to avoid responsibility for, or trying to escape, his own sexual drive—figuratively ‘sitting on the fence’.

Example: ‘My husband and I were walking down a road. We were going in the same direction together. I started to sing with a very happy feeling but then felt I should stop because he would say the happiness was because I had had sex. I sensed he knew what I was thinking as I walked along. He then quietly began to sing and the dream ended with me smiling to myself. We had sexual cut off for four weeks but had made love that afternoon’ (Joan W). In talking about this dream Joan said she felt it slightly embarrassing to admit that sex gave her feelings of happiness. She liked to believe she was perfectly happy without it.

It is probably out of the slight conflict between her conscious attitude and her feeling of well-being after sex that the dream was produced. Sex

1- When a child is first born, its first awareness is of itself as an individual. It has to learn that it is now separate from its mother and cope with the separation. It begins to become ‘conscious’ of itself, and of its need for warmth, comfort and love. One vital stage of growth is the baby’s fascination with its own body and the ability to be physical. This is as much to do with what feels comfortable and nice how it feels to be in one’s own skin, as it were.

It is at this point that lie or she learns about touch, whether il is nice to touch or be touched, and even if touch is permissible. If, for instance, the child is handled roughly, there may be a fear of being touched, which may later manifest as a sexual difficulty.

While the original trauma may be suppressed, it will often surface in dreams when the time is appropriate. Real growth takes place when the individual is not afraid of the curiosity which allows an innocent exploration of his own body. Dreams will often allow us to explore this physicality in a safe way.

2- Dreams highlight the whole range of the individual’s sexuality. Only if lie ignores his own sexual nature and fails to appreciate his own life force do the negative aspects make themselves obvious in dreams. This is a natural attempt to balance the waking state which may have been over-intcllectu- aliscd, or over-dramatised. Contact with others then bcconies necessary; and often this need will make itself apparent in dreams. Various aspects of sex and sexuality can be interpreted as follows: Bisexuality Within ourselves we hold both masculine and feminine potentials. One is more overt than the other and there is often conflict between the inner and the outer. This can sometimes show itself in dreams as bisexuality and a need for some kind of union with members of both sexes. Castration in a dream suggests fear of loss of masculinity and sexual power.

Clothes in sexual dreams can have particular relevance often to do with the dreamer’s perception of him or herself: being fully clothed would suggest some feeling of .guilt.

Contraception Dreaming of contraception can indicate a fear of pregnancy and birth. Ejaculation/Emission The images in a dream prior to orgasm can suggest the nature of the dreamer’s attitude to sex and sexuality.

The conflicts which arise in the dreamer because of his sexual desire for someone can be dealt with in the dream state through dreaming of emission or orgasm. Fetishes Fetishes arc a fixation 011 an external object without which there can be 110 sexual act. This is a little akin to a child not being able to go to sleep without his comforter. There is some evidence for the belief that, at an unconscious level, man would prefer a life of celibacy and, by projecting his energies onto an object, he abdicates responsibility. In dreams, therefore, a fetish can highlight fear, immaturity and lack of capability. Hermaphrodite (also see Individual Entry) Dreaming of a hermaphrodite (someone who is both masculine and feminine) suggests either bisexuality, which is an erotic attraction to both sexes, or androgy ny the perfect balance within one person of the masculine and feminine qualities. Homosexuality is taken to mean the desire for sex with a partner who is the same sex. More properly, it is a desire for someone who is the same as oneself.

It is this aspect that comes across in dreams.

If the dreamer can identify what is similar to himself or herself in ways that arc not purely sexual, the dream can be fully interpreted. Incest (also see individual entry) in a dream usually characterises the need for expressed love that is, love expressed in a more tactilc way. In dreams incest can highlight guilty feelings about one’s parents or members of the family. Intercourse (or petting) The wish or need to be able to communicate with someone on a very intimate level can translate itself into intercourse in a dream.

If intercourse is interrupted the dreamer may have inhibitions of which he or she is not consciously aware. Often intercourse in a dream can mark the integration of a particular part of one’s personality; If a child is then born that integration has been successful. Kiss This can indicate a mark of respect or a desire lo stimulate the dream partner. It suggests we should be aware of what arousal we ourselves need. Masochism The desire to hurt oneself or to be hurt in dreams through sex arises from two causes.

The first is to be a martyr (to suffer for one’s ‘sins’) and the second to feel extreme emotion of one sort or another. We mav not allow ourselves to feel deeply in everyday life.

Masturbation The child learns to comfort himself through masturbation, so dreaming of masturbation is a need for comfort. Perversion When sexual perversion appears in dreams we are avoiding, or attempting to avoid, issues to do with closeness and bonding.

Phallus Any image either of or to do with the phallus signifies everything that is creative, penetrative and masculine.

It is vitality and creativity in both its simplest and most complex form.

It is resurrection and the renewal of life. Rape Any image of rape appearing in dreams can be as much to do with violation of personal space as with the sexual act. Sexual rape is unlikely to appear in the dreams of, for instance, sexually abused children. It may only appear as an image when the adult is ready to deal with the trauma. Sadism (also see individual entry) Sadism appearing in a dream would suggest that it is probably a counterbalance to the dreamer’s conscious way of being in the world. In everyday life he may be cither very timid, in which case the dream is an escape mechanism or. in having to be dominant and controlling in everyday life, the unconscious shows its need to be controlled.

Semen Dreams have an odd way of throwing up images of primitive rites and practices of which we may have no conscious knowledge. Many of these are representations of the sexual act. Semen is the sign of masculinity and of physical maturitv and is often seen in dreams as some other milkv fluid.

Sexuality in a dream, in the sense of feeling desire for someone else most often of the opposite sex is a basic primeval urge for closeness and union with that person.

It is as though we are searching for a part of ourselves that we have lost.

The other character in the dream represents the closcst we can get to that part.

If we were a fully integrated human being, we would have no need for sex with someone else, but for most of us we have a desire to be united with everything which is not part of our own ego. Such a dream, which highlights the feelings we are capable of having, provides information to enable us to understand our own needs. Transvestism This signifies a confusion so far as gender is concerned in dreams. Venereal Disease In a dream this can suggest awareness of some kind of contamination. This need not necessarily be of a sexual nature, but could also be emotional.

3- Sexual activity is either the highest expression of love and spirituality between two people or. if purely physically based, is entirely selfish. It would be up to the dreamer and their understanding of themselves to determine which it is.... Ten Thousand Dream Dictionary

(1) Having sex in a dream is usually a straightforward expression of sexual desire. Sex with someone other than vour partner may express desire for that person and / or dissatisfaction with your partner.

(2) Uninhibited sex in a dream would suggest that the dreamer’s actual sex life is inhibited.

(3) Dreams may reveal patterns in your sexual relationships that you have not been aware of. What sort of person attracts you in vour dreams? How do you feel about this or that aspect of the sexual encounter?

(4) Another reason for paying great attention to dreams depicting sexual relations is that the shadow may be very prominent in sex; so here is a way of getting to know your alter-ego, the hidden part of yourself.

(5) In dreams of sex your partner may symbolize some part of your own psyche, for example, your anima if you are male, your animus if you are female, and the sexual act will then be a symbol of the union of opposites which leads to wholeness and balance in the personality.... Sex

Dreams with sexual themes are very frequent and are not always easy to interpret. Often, you have to frame them in the appropriate amorous context. That is to say, if you have problems in your sex life, the dream scenes that you produce while sleeping reflect these preoccupations. In the same way, with sexual themes, the influence of childhood is the most powerful, as it is during this time when you start to conceive of sex as something dirty or sinful. The field of intimate relations offers more recurring dreams. So, sometimes heterosexual people dream that they are making love with someone of the same sex. In most cases, these dreams represent the desire of the protagonist to possess the characteristics of the partner. During the days preceding a wedding, the engaged couple also tend to experience erotic dreams in which they imagine that they are having sex with other people. These scenes are directly related to the fear and anxiety that is produced in many individuals prior to the promise of matrimony. In general, you can say that dreaming that you maintain a sexual relationship with your partner or someone you know could reveal attraction towards these people, but it could also be a result of an anxiety situation. However, if you dream that you are making love to a stranger, it is possible that you are dissatisfied with certain aspects of your life, as you are searching in the unknown for what you have not found in your own heart. (See ADULTERER, LOVE, KISS, HARUM, and INCEST)

Sex

Perhaps the most misunderstood symbol in dreaming, sex is ultimately about connection and integration. When sex appears in a dream, it is imperative that you put your personal reactions to sex and sexuality aside in order to arrive at an accurate interpretation. Detaching from the thoughts and feelings triggered by the characters involved in the act of sex in your dream is even more crucial to this process. This can be difficult for many people to accomplish. Sex in dreams can be an area of great concern for many people. While some sex dreams are experienced as pleasurable and erotic, more often than not people report dreaming of sexual encounters as troubling because of the nature of the sexual act they dreamed of or the partner with whom they were engaged. However, once examined through the language of symbols, sex loses its potency and charge, while revealing so much more. When two people have sex, on at least some level they are trying to get as close to each other as they possibly can.

The act of sex can be defined symbolically as two separate energies attempting to merge into one. Therefore, sex is symbolic of the process of integration.

If you remove any personal projections that come up around sex and how it was played out in your dream, the interpretive meaning rises above any potential embarrassment or shame. Though sometimes more difficult to accept, this also applies to sexual encounters that have societal taboos associated with them, such as those involving incestuous relationships or illegal activities. Whoever you are having sex with in your dream represents a character aspect that your unconscious is telling you needs to be integrated into your personality.

If you are witnessing a sexual act, then you will need to consider what character aspects of yourself are being expressed by the people having sex.

The message of integration still applies, but it will connect more to parts of your personality that need to join forces. Perhaps a life situation is demanding different areas of your skill sets that, if combined, will empower you to be effective in a way that is currently eluding you.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

Freud believed that all dreams were wish-fulfillment dreams about sexual activity.

According to Freud, virtually every dream topic—from the phallic symbolism of a clenched fist or a tall building to the feminine associations of a cave or a rosebud unfolding—represented the release of sexual tension. Although Freud’s classic work built a solid basis for dream analysis, Jung rejected Freud’s idea of the libido being exclusively sexual and argued that Freud saw sexual symbolism in too wide a range of phenomena. According to Jung, sexual dreams were more likely to represent the search for perfect balance between the masculine and feminine principles within oneself. They served as pointers towards psychological growth and wholeness.

Today most dream analysts regard dreams as emotional safety valves. The energy behind the sexual drive is enormously important and can express itself in many different ways apart from genital sex, for example caring for others.

If this energy is blocked, however, it can lead to poor emotional health, and feelings of loneliness and low self-esteem. Your dreams show you in detail just how you are dealing with this important area of your life, and what is preventing you from feeling satisfied and healthy.

If you pay attention to your dreams, they will reveal your intimate and individual needs, thereby considerably enriching your waking life. See also ANIMALS; BODY; RELATIONSHIPS.... The Element Encyclopedia

One vital stage of growth is the baby’s fascination with its own body and the ability to be physical. Sex While Asleep

Example: Many times in my adult life I have woken to find I have made love to my wife while asleep. Or I wake to discover myself in the middle of the sexual act. At such times I have usually been avoiding my sexual drive and it has burst through to fulfil itself while I was asleep or under the sway of dreams.

For instance most times this happened I have been in the middle of a dream in which there is a sense of absolute imperative that I must make love/have sex.

It is like being lost in a storm of glamour and fantasy or vision in which I am totally involved.

The whirl of the “dream” is towards the wonder, totality of the need to have sex. As this imperative is expressed in my still spontaneous, dreaming physical action, the experience of sex is also visionary and enormous’ (Charles W).

This fairly common dreaming experience demonstrates powerfully how dreams are an expression of a self regulatory or compensatory action in the psyche and body. Charles says that he had been restraining his sexual activity. This shows the enormous gulf which can exist between what we will to do as a conscious personality, and what our being needs to do or wishes to do outside conscious decision making.

The ‘glamour and fantasy’ Charles describes are regular features of how these deeper needs make themselves known, or attempt to coerce the conscious mind, into fulfilling the need.

If we reject the fantasy, the unconscious processes will attempt a more radical approach, as in actual physical movement while we sleep. This may have given rise to ideas about possession or devils in past ages, when it was not understood that we can split our mind by such conflicts. Fear of the possessing’ influence actually heightens its power through suggestion.

It is much better to understand what one’s needs are, and seek an acceptable fulfilment. See abreaction. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Dream analysts tend to describe dreams about sex with famous people as simple wishfulfillment. For example, an aspiring athlete may dream of having sex with a famous sporting hero. But someone who has no talent for sport might also dream of making love with a sporting icon. The quality that is desired here might be the sporting legend’s ability under intense pressure. In some cases, the famous people you might be romantically involved with in your dreams are really standins for people who aren’t so famous, the people in your everyday life. See also SEX.... Sexual Intercourse

(Adultery; Coitus; Fornication; Hugging; Instinct; Lesbian; Molesting; Sexual drive; Sleeping together, Sodomy; Tribadism) If a man sees himself having sexual intercourse with another man in a dream, it means that both of them have lost their moral dedication, that have become aimless, turned stingy toward their own dependents and generous toward others. It also means loss ofone’s capital, or divorcing one’s wife.

If a poor person sees such a dream, it means that he will fall sick, or attract an incurable disease.

To have sexual intercourse with a male in a dream also means falling into sin, committing the unlawful, or engaging in sexual intercourse with a female member of one’s own family, a blood relation, or a consanguineous person whom one is forbidden to marry. Molesting a child in a dream means suffering from a great affliction. Fornication with a young servant in a dream means suffering from continuous stress and a lasting depression. Sleeping with a beautiful woman one recognizes in his dream means profits. Sleeping with an ugly looking old woman in a dream means the opposite. Having sexual intercourse with an unknown woman in a dream represents the type of interactions and dealings one fosters with people in general. Accordingly, and depending on the condition of the woman one is sleepingwith in a dream, one’s actions will substantiate. Sleepingwith someone’s wife in a dream means engaging in a profitable business with the husband.

If a sick person sees himselfhaving sexual intercourse with his mother in a dream, it means his death, for the mother here represent the earth.

If a woman sees herselfengaging in tribadism, or a lesbian relationship with another woman she knows in a dream, it means that she will confide her personal life to her, or divulge all her secrets, become her intimate friend or a fan, shares opinions with her and emulate her actions and look in public. Ifshe does not know that woman in the dream, it means that she will indulge in sin.

If a married woman sees herself engaging in tribadism with another woman in a dream, it means that she will separate from her husband or become a widow. Engaging in sexual intercourse with a deceased person, be it a man or a woman in a dream means one’s own death, unless if one is travelling, then it could mean visiting that country where the deceased person is buried. Any sexual intercourse in a dream that culminates in ejecting semen and necessitates a complete ritual ablution in wakefulness represents disturbed dreams, or engaging in a forbidden sexual intercourse from the anus, or it could represent wet dreams. Having sexual intercourse in a dream also signifies paying one’s debts, or it could mean relief from pressures. Having sexual intercourse with a prostitute in a dream means love for the world, or it could mean profits. Having sexual intercourse with one’s wife in a dream means success in one’s trade. Having sexual intercourse with a heavenly woman in a dream means religious and spiritual attainment.

If the sexual encounter is with someone the dreamer loves and desires, and who reciprocates his or her feelings, then happy times with that person lie ahead.

If the encounter is with someone whose feelings the dreamer isn’t sure of, it could mean the same, but it could also be nothing more than a wish-fulfillment dream. Look to other symbols in the dream in order to discern its true meaning.

If the encounter is an unpleasant one with either a stranger or someone whom the dreamer does NOT like, the dreamer is trying to avoid a distasteful choice or confrontation that perhaps should actually be faced.

If the encounter is a pleasant one with a partner that the dreamer does not know, then the dreamer is about to gain something that he’s been wanting for a long time. Some Common Questions About Sexual Dreams

If I make love to someone I know in my dream, does that mean he or she is interested in me? In most cases such dreams have more to do with your own feelings rather than hidden passions coming from other people. Remember your dreaming mind uses sexual imagery to give you a taste of how things might be different and teach you about love and passion.

Why do I dream of being intimate with people to whom I’m not attracted? There are several reasons for this.

If you honestly don’t find the person attractive in waking life, they may represent a quality or characteristic that is closely linked to a quality you are exploring or discovering within yourself.

If the partner is particularly unsavory, your dreaming mind may be encouraging you to say no to things that are not right for you.

Are dreams of my partner’s infidelity a warning sign? In some cases, yes, but in the majority of cases such dramas are metaphors for some kind of emotional abandonment or neglect; perhaps your loved one is showing more attention to the children—or to their job or hobbies—than to you.

Do repeated dreams of my first love mean I have not got over him or her? Your first love tends to be a symbol of romantic love in dreams but when they appear in your dreams, it is likely that your dreaming mind is using them as an emblem of love to help you work through your current relationship issues. In most cases, your dreaming mind is focused on current issues.

What do dreams of being back with my ex mean? Dreaming about your ex does not mean you want to be with them. Unless you are convinced that your latest ex is the ’one’, your dreaming mind is using them as an actor to represent your love interest. In most cases, such dreams suggest that you are going over old issues or relationship patterns, and that your dreaming mind is using such images to help you heal and move on to a more positive future. When any relationship breaks down, your dreaming mind will delve into memories, fears and hopes to help you unravel mysteries and gain understanding about what makes real love work. Your inner mind is constantly sorting through what works and what doesn’t work in a relationship, and it will refer back to past relationships to compare strengths and weaknesses and try to make sense of things.

If I have a perfect dream romance, does this mean the perfect partner will appear in my life? In you are single and you have a perfect romantic and sexual dream, this could be wish-fulfillment but it could also be your dreaming mind’s way of reminding you that love and passion are still out there and you should open yourself up to the possibility of romance.

If I have a bizarre or distressing dream about sex, does this mean I’m weird? Don’t interpret your dreaming according to how you judge it when you are awake, and try not to feel guilty. Instead, try to understand the dream and remind yourself that your dreaming mind will use sexual images—even graphic or shocking ones—as metaphors or opportunities to learn about yourself....
