Holy Book

(Qur’an; The Last Revelation) In a dream, the Holy Book, or the Qur’an represents a king or a judge who deals with Islamic jurisprudence.

If a king, a ruler, or a judge sees that the Holy Book does no longer exist, or if he sees it burning, or if its contents are washed away in a dream, it means his death.

If one sees a ruler or a governor handwriting a copy of the Holy Book in a dream, it means that he is ajust person who uses the divine laws in makinghis decision. Ifajudge sees himselfhandwriting a copy of the Holy Book in a dream, it means that he does not share his knowledge, and that he is audacious about his rank and status.

If a religious scholar or a theologian sees himself writing a copy of Holy Book in a dream, it means that he will profit from a business deal.

If one sees a king, or a ruler swallowing the Holy Book in a dream, it means that he may die soon.

If a judge swallows the Holy Book in a dream, it means that he accepts bribes.

If a ruler sees himself erasing what is written in the Holy Book in a dream, it means that he will be exiled.

If ajudge erases what is written in the Holy Book in a dream, it also means his death.

If he erases it by licking it with his own tongue in a dream, it means that he will commit an awful sin.

If a witness erases it in a dream, it means that he will deny his own testimony. Carrying the Holy Book, or buying a copy of the Qur’an in a dream means living by its criterion. Reading from the Holy Book before God’s Prophet, upon whom be peace, in a dream means that one will commit himself to memorizing it. Eating the pages of the Holy Book in a dream means accepting bribes.

If a layman eats the pages of the Holy Book, or few lines from some pages in a dream, it means that he earns his livelihood from reciting the Holy Qur’[m or teaching it. Eating the pages of the Holy Book in a dream also means earning one’s livelihood from copying and selling it. Seeing the Holy Book in a dream also mans growing in wisdom. Handwriting copies of the Holy Book in a dream denotes one’s piety, or it could represent a religious scholar who lives by the book, act by its commands and shares his knowledge with others. If one does something to the Holy Book in his dream that he would abhor to do in wakefulness, it means that he has lost his religious devotion and faith. Carrying a copy of the HolyBook in a dream means attaining power and acquiring knowledge.

The Holy Book in a dream also represents a husband, a wife, a son, or wealth. Ifa sick person sees it in his dream, it means that he will recover from his illness. Ifthe one who sees it in his dream is facing an enemy, it means that he will triumph over him.

If he is a sinner, it means that he will repent of his sins and turn to his Lord, or it could mean that he may receive an inheritance.

If one sees himself following innovations and he recognizes that in his sleep, his dream denotes a warning from God Almighty. Seeing the Holy Book in a dream also could mean seeing wonders, witnessing a miracle, hearing news, receiving happy news, or it could mean longevity for one who browse through it from cover to cover in his dream.

The Holy Book in a dream also represents gardens, heavens, places of worship, or a person one is commanded to obey, such as a ruler, or a father, a mother, one’s teacher, or shaikh, or it could mean making a true oath, receiving glad tidings, admonition or a warning. Seeing the Holy Book or any of the early divine revelations in a dream means that one may preside over people.

If one sees himself carrying the Holy Book, or even any book of revelations, and if when he opens it finds the pages blank with no writing inside it in the dream, it means that he portrays himself to be what he is not, or that he impersonates a scholar, or pretends to be religious. Kissing the Holy Book in a dream means revering what it contains and adhering to what it commands.

If one looks into the pages of the Holy Book and finds its lines crooked in a dream, it means that he lives satisfied with what he has, and fulfills his required duties accordingly. Stealing a copy of the Holy Book and hiding it in a dream means that one cheats in performing his own prayers, or fails to do them properly.

If one sees himself looking in the Holy Book, then writing from what he is reading on his own garment in the dream, it means that he interprets the Qur’imic revelation according to his own liking.

If one sees a Holy Book sitting in his lap, then if a chick comes and picks all the words written therein in a dream, it means that one will beget a child who will memorize and read the Holy Qur’an as an inheritance, and benefit from the piety of his father, and as a trust, a lawful earning and a source of strength in his life. Buying a copy of the Holy Book in dream means benefits, prosperity and becoming a renowned and a distinguished religious scholar.

If the Holy Book is snatched away from someone’s hands in a dream, it means that he will lose his knowledge, or perhaps lose his employment.

If one sees himself spreading the pages of the Holy Book on a flat surface in a dream, it means that he is seeking wisdom which he will get, or that he may receive an inheritance.

If one sees himself putting the Holy Book over his shoulders in a dream, it means that he will receive an appointment, or be entrusted with a duty to guard, or that he will memorize the Holy Qur’an. Ifone finds himself trying to eat the pages of the Holy Book in a dream, it means that he is a regular reader of the Qur’an. Ifone sees himself trying to eat the pages of the holy Book but is unable to do so in a dream, it means that he tries to memorize the Holy Qur’an from time to time but keeps forgetting what he learns.

Malik

(The archangel Malik; The guardian of hell-fire) Seeing the archangel Malik in a dream means standing before a policeman or a police commissioner for questioning.

If he smiles in the dream, it means that one will be saved from imprisonment.

If a sick person sees such a dream, it means that he may die shortly.

If one becomes the archangel Malik, or eats something sweet from his hand in a dream, it denotes that one is a true follower on the path of God Almighty and His Prophet, upon whom be peace. It also means that one loves his brethren on the path. It also means that one will be honored, gain power, abstain from sin or from any act of disobeying God’s commands, and he will become free from hypocrisy and heedlessness. It also could mean that one is guided and that he loves God’s religion. Eating something that is given by Malik in a dream also means abstinence and repentance from sin, or it could mean submitting to guidance after having gone astray. Ifone sees the archangel Malik walking toward him in a dream, it means peace and safety from hell-fire. It also means salvation and restoration of one’s faith. However, if he sees the archangel Malik walking away from him and showing displeasure in the dream, it means that one will commit an act that will deliver him into the blaze of hell-fire.

Reckoning

(Day of Reckoning; Doomsday; Resurrection) Seeing the reckoning of a deceased person in a dream denotes his sufferings in the hereafter.

If a traveller is asked to account for his travel expenses, and if he is treated with kindness during the reading of his report in the dream, it means profits from hisjourney and a safe return to his homeland. Ifone reckons himself in a dream, it means that he will repent for his sins.

If one is brought for judgment on the day of reckoning, and ifhis questioning is made easy in the dream, it means that God has blessed him to marry a pious wife who has love and compassion for him, and who cares about his interests. Ifhis questioning is strict and detailed in the dream, it means that he will incur losses.

If a person sees himself questioned, probed and investigated in a court by people he does not recognize in the dream, itmeans that he has strayed into innovation, and that he will remain accountable for his actions.

If he sees them well dressed and fragrant, congratulating him and greeting him with the salutation of peace ’’As-Saliimu Alaikum”, then it is an indication ofhis righteousness and good deeds.

Defence

mechanisms Although the dream process attempts to release difficult emotions, trauma and past experience, most people have inbuilt mechanisms which prevent this spontaneous healing activity.

It is natural to pull our hand away from a hot surface because of the pain. We do this ‘without thinking’. Similarly we unconsciously pull away from any painful or frightening emotions, even though it may be in our best interests to release or integrate them.

The non-release leads to physical tension; a massive use of energy to contain such emotions, and even development of physical illness. Resistance may also be in the form of not wanting to change, fear of the new; feeling threatened by fresh views of life or any questioning of the values one has long lived by.

To free oneself from such resistances needs a positive motivation and the learning of new psychological and even physical skills, as presented in forms of psychotherapy. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Kill

Example: ‘When inside the house I dream of recurrently, I am terrified of someone, a man who is trying to find and kill me’ (Barbara T). As a young woman Barbara discovered the dead body of her father (he had shot himself) in the house of her dream. Being killed shows Barbara feeling overwhelmed by the feelings about her father—the man. Being killed: an interior or exterior influence which you feel is ‘killing’—undermining, making ineffective, strangling, choking— one’s self confidence or sense of identity. Killing: repressing or stopping some aspect of oneself, as when we kill our love for someone. Killing parents, animals: see family; animals.

Example: ‘Some two weeks before my dear wife died of cancer of the oesophagus, at about three a.m. in the morning, she shot up in bed screaming “No. No! No!” On questioning her she said her mother, who had died in November 1981, was trying to kill her’ (Gerry B). In this unusual dream the wife feels the approach of death, depicted by her mother. As dreams suggest, death is as much a new area of experience as adolescence was, it would have helped the dreamer if she had taken time to develop a more positive relationship with her mother as described in dream processing. See death. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Gems

(see by type, Crystals, Jewelry, Stones)

Something precious, to be cared for and guarded with due diligence.

The gem of truth. Facts revealing themselves.

Commitments and devotion. Precious gems, especially diamonds, are exchanged as part of engagement or wedding rites.

In a ring: Authority. Popes, kings, and other authority figures often wear gold rings mounted with precious gems as a sign of office.

Metaphysically: Assisted health, protection, or improved personal characteristics. People in nearly every ancient culture carried or wore precious gems as amulets, charms, and talismans for a variety of positive purposes.

Each precious or semiprecious gem carries different meanings within a dream. Amber equates to feeling trapped, diamonds are for love, emeralds represent resourcefulness, and garnets portend the end to a period of questioning. Additionally, jade indicates health, moonstone stands for foresight and all things feminine, opal represents financial

situations, ruby is a type of fire dream, and sapphire shows faithfulness on your part.

Insects

General Meaning: In a prophetic dream or a vision where the connotation is negative, various insects can speak of: • • Destruction, an attack from the enemy.

• • Negative words spoken against you.

• • Things that are an annoyance.

• • Things that bring fear.

• • A spirit of destruction (as in the ointment that was spoiled).

• • The presence of Satan himself, displayed as the Lord of the Flies.

Dreams Positive:

It is important to remember that insects can mean different things to different people. Apply the principles in the Way of Dreams and Visions book for all internal dreams, and ask yourself this question: • What does this insect mean to ME (or to the person who had the dream)? • It is very seldom that insects would be positive. However you might dream that you are crushing insects. Or perhaps you are overcoming them in a dream, where you are the main character.

• This would be positive! It would mean that you are overcoming something negative in your life.

• A lady bug is an insect that pollinates fruit and is a good picture of something that is being used of God to assist you in bringing fruitfulness in your life.

• I shared an illustration in the Dreams and Visions book of a lady who had a fear of spiders. She had a dream where she was crushing them. Spiders represented fear in her dreams. By dreaming that she was crushing them, it spoke of how she was overcoming fear in her life! • So ask yourself, “How do I feel about this insect in real life? Does it bring fear? It is just an annoyance? It is a pet? Does it provide a benefit? (like a bee that provides honey).” • You decide and apply it then to your internal dream. Negative: Once again, what does the insect mean to you? If you dream of having insects swarming you, this is not likely a good dream! • It could speak of things annoying you that are overpowering you in real life. It might speak of fears that are assailing you, or problems that are getting too much.

• I grew up having some horrible experiences with cockroaches.

To this day they give me the creeps even more than spiders! Although they clearly speak of the work of the enemy in visions, in my case dreaming of a cockroach would likely speak of my inner fears or things that I would rather avoid.

• Do you see how important it is to identify the symbols in an internal dream?

Visions Positive:

There are some positive references to insects in Scripture.

For example locusts were something that the Israelites were allowed to eat.

(Leviticus 11:22) • There is another passage that speaks of how Samson was given honey from some bees that had made their home in the carcass of a lion.

(Judges 14:8) • Then again let us not forget the plague: • Exodus 10:14 And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the coasts of Egypt: very grievous [were they]; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such.

• So my conclusion is this: If your vision or prophetic dream has a positive connotation, then the insects would speak of something that provides sustenance.

• It speaks of spiritual food, or the Lord providing for your basic needs.

• However, the Lord also sent a plague of insects on Egypt to deliver His people. So in this case, seeing a plague of insects in a positive light could speak of the Lord sending judgment on the system of the world to bring blessing to His people.

Negative: In general insects are unclean in scripture and speak of the work of the enemy I often see insects in the spirit when praying for healing. When I see them I know that I am dealing with a spirit of infirmity.

• Bees.

• David spoke about a swarm of bees that stung like thorns.

• Then the enemy of the Israelites was referred to as a swarm of bees.

(Deut 1:44) • Flies • Flies specifically always have a negative connotation. They are often tied in with Satan himself, being known as the Beelzebub, Lord of the flies.

• On a personal note, in the spirit when I have seen Beelzebub, the Lord of the Flies, the vision has often represented things that relate to the New Age cult.

• When I have given personal ministry and seen this demon, after questioning the person it turns out they had some New Age involvement.

• I do not encourage you to get ‘hung up’ on demons, but if you do come across this in personal ministry, you know what it is and how to deal with it.

• Remember, the enemy CANNOT attack you, unless he has been given license through sin.

The book the Way of Blessing is a powerful resource to understanding this better.

• Leviticus 11:43 You will not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creeps, neither will you make yourselves unclean with them, that you should be defiled by it.

• Cockroaches.

• These are loathsome creatures that scurry in the dark and feed in dirt.

If you • see cockroaches in the spirit then you know that the enemy has gained license to your life. Because of their nature they are a good representation of small sins that have crept into your life.

• The good news is, that just as they are easy to squash in the natural, so can you easily take authority over any work of the enemy in the spirit.

Dream Meanings

Dream interpretation requires vast knowledge, clear perception, and sensitivity. Such knowledge must be based on the fundamentals of one’s religion, inner spiritual values, moral and cultural traditions.

The beginner in this field must know that there are two types of dreams: one type that comes from God Almighty, and the second type comes from satan. What is good comes from God Almighty, which is a type of revelation that comes to a righteous person and carries either glad tidings, or warnings. Such dreams also cause one’s heart to reflect upon his actions and to beware of heedlessness.

Islamic Dream Meanings

On the other hand, they could be a reprimand for an ignoble act one is pondering, or an act one may mistakenly thinks that it is the correct thing to do, or a new friendship that could lead him to hell-fire, or a clarification concerning his treatment of his family and friends and about his business dealings, or they may bring spiritual guidance, etcetera.

This is the type of dream which is referred to in God’s Prophet’s sayings: “Atrue dream representsone offorty-six branches of a prophecy.” Both religious and irreligious people may see a true dream that could come true.

The second type of dream connotes deception, cunningness, contriving, jealousy, or a scare, causes pain, depicts any type of eavesdropping, engaging in mundane conversation, the call of one’s mind and desires, or imagination, or occur after eating a heavy late meal or even going to bed hungry, etcetera.

This type of dream comes from satan. God’s Prophet (uwbp) has said: ‘As time draws nearer to the conclusion of this world, dreams will become confused.

The most true of dreams are those ofa truthful person. Thus, if one sees a dream that he dislikes, he should tell no one about it, and he should immediately leave his bed and perform his prayers.” He also said: “The best of ropes is steadfastness to one’s religious life.”

Interpreting dreams is a process of analyzing the nature of things and their opposing possibilities, connecting their roots, and assembling the fragments of one’s thoughts to better understand his or her real condition.

In a dream, one may see things that may connote equilibrium or the opposite, while his passive and inert participation urges him to examine the elements and to awaken his consciousness. Sometimes, the elements themselves may be opaque or unclear. In this case, if one recognizes a person in the dream, perhaps the name of that person, or his trade, or his look, or the meaningofthe individual letters of his name, or their combined numerological value, etcetera, mayprovide a clue to the meaning of one’s dream. The foundation of all Islamic knowledge is revelation contained in the Qur’aan and the Sunnah.

Since good dreams are also a form of revelation from Allaah, any legitimate attempt to interpret the symbolism of dreams should rely primarily on the symbolism found in the Qur’aan and Sunnah.

A dream interpreter must listen to the complete story, and its minute details. He also must investigate and find acceptable religious references for each element in the dream.

If the does not fully understand the dream, or if he is unable to find such references, then it is better for him to refrain from making up an interpretation.

In that case, he will be giving a religious ruling, though dreams relate to psychology. Indeed, it will be a sin to tell a false interpretation, while one will be rewarded if he remains silent when he does not know the answer. Imam Ibn Sirin was the most renowned master in this science, and he often refrained from interpreting someone’s dream. Perhaps, he would interpret only one out of every forty dreams when askedto do so. Of three out of four such dreams, he used to say: “I do not know the meaning of this dream.”

The dream interpreter must investigate the dream and establish its acceptable religious references.

It is related that Imam Ibn Sirin used to spend a good part of the day questioning the person about himself, his life, type of work, living condition, and surrounding circumstance, for a dream interpreter is not a prophet and cannot tell about the future.

[DREAM IMAGES: DOUBLE AGENT; PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR; SHERLOCK HOLMES; SLEUTH; SNOOP; SPY ETC.]

Positive characteristics of the detective include the ability to seek out knowledge and information that supports solving crimes and protecting the public. The shadow side of these archetypes can manifest as voyeurism, falsifying information, or selling out to the highest bidder.

If the detective archetype appears in your dreams, it could be encouraging you to become more inquisitive. On the other hand, it could be questioning your motives for seeking out information.... The Element Encyclopedia

Conflict

If you dream of an argument or rivalry with one of your parents, it suggests that you may be questioning yourself in some way. When a child is born it moves from self-involvement to an exclusive relationship with the mother and father; later on the child has a need for a third relationship with another person outside the family, and often this third relationship can cause the child to question their own validity as a person. Dream images of conflicts with parents therefore suggest that this issue still needs to be resolved so that successful relationships can be established outside the home.

If you dream of someone you know outside the family arguing or in conflict with a member of your family, this may suggest that you have not yet learned to establish what your needs are. Learning to love outside the family is a sign of independence and maturity. The figure of a family member disrupting or preventing intimacy with a friend or loved one in your dream suggests that family loyalties are getting in the way of your development and fulfillment in everyday life.... Fish

In dreams, fish symbolize spiritual aspects of your life, so to be eating a fish in your dream suggests a desire for spiritual nourishment and inspiration. Fish oil stands for a highly beneficial characteristic or element. Consider also the word association of ‘fishy’, meaning suspicion and a questioning sense regarding something. To see shrimps in your dream suggests that you are feeling overpowered and insignificant. See also REPTILES, FISH AND AMPHIBIANS.... The Element Encyclopedia

Club / Tribe / Secret Order

Being part of a group is a fundamental human urge and it can express itself in dreams that feature large groups or people. Being a member of a club or gang gives you a sense of security, as it is a meeting a group of people with a common interest, goal or purpose.

If your social dream was pleasant, it can suggest that you are feeling secure and happy in your current social situation.

If the dream was unpleasant, however, and you were rejected or thrown out of your club, you may be feeling that your goals and opinions are not the same as those of other people in your life. We often hate to feel different from our friends and so any dream in which you were a part of a tribe or secret order with elaborate ritual and rules may be questioning how much you are expressing your individuality in waking life.

If you are chased by a gang or yob in your dream this is similar to dreams of being chased by a monster and the gang or yob should be faced. Consider who or what the gang or yob represents to you.... The Element Encyclopedia

Dream Group

Whilst individual dream work is rewarding and necessary to the growth of your understanding of dreams, you can sometimes overlook or be bewildered by certain aspects of your dreams. These are the natural limitations imposed by your blindspots, or over-involvement with the dream itself. These blindspots are those of your beliefs and values that are held as unchangeable; the over-involvement with the dream occurs when your emotional reaction to the dream or the dream images is still fresh enough that the necessary perspective one needs for some of the dreamwork can be missing. Other people can usually avoid these limitations because they are not directly connected to the dream material. They approach the dream with fresh eyes and ears, and with sufficient difference in life experience that they can provide the distance necessary for an accurate interpretation.

In short—even when using this encyclopedia—you may find that you get stuck every now and again when interpreting your dreams.

If this happens, you may want to share your dreams with a dream partner. Another approach would be to join a dream group that meets weekly or monthly.

Most of us have dream partners, and we don’t even know it.

Friends, partners, co-workers: all of them have probably heard us say at one time or another:‘I had the strangest dream last night!’ Such interaction is normal, and can be helpful and insightful; there can be problems, however, especially if your dream partner appears in an unfavorable light in your dream, or disturbing images appear in your dream that might make for uncomfortable listening

A dream group is a group of people who meet on a regular basis to share and help each another understand the meaning of their dreams. A group may consist of two or up to twelve members, although from five to seven individuals in this type of group works very well. Some are professionally facilitated or led by a well-experienced dreamworker; others are leaderless or egalitarian. Some‘organizers’ of the group charge a fee for participation; others don’t.

Each group has its own unique ethics and procedures, often based on those processes developed for doing dream group work over the past few decades. One of the most popular is Dr Montague Ullman’s‘If it were my dream’ technique, or variations on that theme.

Most groups don’t try to mimic the dream analysis or interpretation that would take place in a therapeutic situation; the intent is rather to provide a safe environment in which to allow a dreamer to be respectfully heard and questioned, respectfully listening to the dreamer, questioning them and ultimately helping them to come to a better understanding of what their dream is communicating.

Sharing dreams with a partner or with a group can be beneficial to everyone. But when you are dealing with something of such a personal nature, there have to be guidelines:

Everyone has to remember that dream sharing is NOT therapy.

No matter how tempting, do not interpret anyone else’s dream for them. All you will be doing is reflecting your own feelings about the dream.

Respect the dreamer’s experience of the dream, no matter how much you may personally disagree.

For the partnership or group’s work to be successful, the dreamers must feel comfortable enough to express as much (or as little) of their emotions as they want. Remember that the dreamer is vulnerable, and go to all lengths to ensure confidentiality.

Treat the dreamer with gentleness. When the dreamer wants to stop a discussion, they must be able to without feeling an excuse is necessary. Never pressure a dreamer to talk, no matter how helpful you may think it would be.... The Element Encyclopedia

Lizard / Chameleon

Lizards can often resemble snakes, so much of their symbolism in dreams will be similar. But if you watched a chameleon’s skin slowly change color or blend into the background in your dream, ask yourself whether your unconscious was questioning the wisdom of camouflaging your true feelings; on the other hand, perhaps it was highlighting your fickleness.... Crying / Screaming / Laughing

If you or someone else was crying, screaming or laughing in your dream, this may be a confirmation of how they are feeling in waking life. Similarly, if you woke up laughing, screaming or crying after your dream, could these vocalized emotions be expressing the happiness, excitement and sadness you are experiencing in waking life? Or were you crying for help or screaming in terror? Have you been repressing powerful emotions in waking life and did venting them in dreamland give you a sense of release?

Dreams of crying may function as a release for the sorrow or grief that has been holding you back consciously or unconsciously in waking life. Alternatively, such dreams may be an intuitive awareness of something ending or someone leaving in your waking life; or are your tears crocodile tears?

Dreams of laughing suggest a release of tension or an attempt to put yourself and others at ease. Depending on your feelings during the dream and on waking, the laugh may however be a sign that you are hiding the truth or taking things too lightly, as sometimes laughter can hide sadness and the truth. Bear in mind that laughter can also be a sign of contempt, and if someone laughs in your face, your unconscious may have used the archetype of the Trickster in an attempt to make you rethink something or reconsider your values. When the laughter becomes the kind of cackling associated in folklore with wicked witches and mischief-making, this may represent your inner voice questioning and ridiculing your pretensions.... Stages Of Life

In his 1930 essay ‘Stages of Life’, Jung postulated four stages of life— childhood, youth, middle age and old age—based on his own clinical observations.

He viewed youth as a period of expanding consciousness, middle age as a period of questioning long-held convictions, and old age as a period of increased introspection and preoccupation with self-evaluation. According to Jung, dreams are important tools of self-discovery for you, whatever your age or life stage.

This is because in every stage of your life you will face many challenges: emotional, intellectual, spiritual and physical. These challenges can trigger fascinating dreams, some of which can help you to meet those challenges and pass on to the next phase of your development.

Jung believed that what prevents people from becoming independent, fulfilled and ultimately happy is their refusal to open themselves to change or to new and unfamiliar experiences that potentially threaten their sense of self. His approach to finding balance in every stage of life was through the analysis of dreams and a process he called ‘individuation’. Dreams are a powerful tool for self-discovery and individuation is a self-analysis, a self-discovery, a way of analysing your own reactions and responses at every life stage so you can discover what truths lie underneath your conscious and egocentric personality.

In this chapter you will explore dreams that are believed to be typical of distinct life stages; some dream analysts refer to them as ‘developmental dreams’. This is because they seem particularly to reflect the typical stresses, questions and issues you may face at specific times in your life. This makes sense as you would expect the dreams you had when you were fifteen to reflect the concerns of your life as a teenager, just as you would expect the dreams you have now to have evolved into a mirror of your current situation and age group. Bear in mind, however, that how the stresses and challenges of your current life stage is represented in the dream world depends upon your personal circumstances, your sleep patterns and your ability to remember your dreams.

Bear in mind, too, that it is possible to have any one of these dreams even if you don’t fit the life-stage profile that coincides with it.

Dreams of death will also be explored in this chapter, as death is the final stage or change that comes to us all. Although dreams of death may explore your feelings about death or represent potential you may have missed or not expressed in general, dream analysts believe that such dreams represent the ending of one phase so a new one can begin. They reveal forthcoming finalities such as the end of a relationship or career and should not be interpreted literally. Because in the past we were terrified at the idea of death, it also represents upheaval, calamity and the sense that things will never be the same again. It was something that could only be endured but never be understood. Today, as our attitudes towards death have changed, death in a dream represents a challenge that cannot be avoided and which must be confronted if progress is to be made in waking life.

The message is that some approach or attitude to life needs to be changed or adjusted; if you can find the courage to make that adjustment successfully, there can be a fresh start or a new beginning.
