1- When we dream of a canopy we are looking to be protected, sheltered or loved. In olden times a canopy was used to shelter those with special duties or powers, such as kings and queens or priests and priestesses. We still acknowledge on a deep internal level this privilege.

If we ourselves are being sheltered we recognise our own abilities and potential for greatness.

2- A canopy protects the head which is the seat of intellect. We have a need to draw attention to higher ideals or aspirations.

Lover. Archetypal symbol for father / mother, dependency on father / mother. Also always the dreamer himself.

The Great Father is the symbol of an aware and elevated consciousness. You are standing with great awareness in the world. In fairy tales, as well as in dreams, the self usually has a royal beginning, from which it is separated in order for it to master the adventures in the world.

The king also means wholeness and completeness.

The Great Mother is symbolized in the dream as a queen, always representing the image of wholeness. In the end she represents the integrating power of nature. Furthermore, the image of the queen as the fertile mother always addresses the self of the dreamer. Implied here is the idea that we should rely on our own abilities, care for ourselves, and find a Home within ourselves.

Kings and queens also represent one’s masculinity (animus) and femininity (anima). Characters or themes from the fables of our youth commonly appear in dreams as archetypes of personality traits or prevalent situations. Normally, the subconscious tries to illustrate a key that will help you develop those traits, overcome negative habits, or succeed in your present circumstances.

For example, the tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears could be counseling you to be less selfish or bearish in the way you act toward strangers.

The hero or heroine reflects your Higher Self, and the best personal characteristics you hope to eventually develop. Pay close attention to what these people do (see Icons, Men, Women).

Kings and queens reflect authority figures (or situations, belief systems, etc.) to whom you subjugate yourself.

The question here is whether such service is beneficial to you as a whole person. Alternatively, these can be icons of gods and goddesses.

Fantastic creatures represent your ability to imagine and reach beyond surface reality. Each creature also has a unique symbolic message to consider.

A god or goddess: Each varies here by the specific visage seen, but ecumenically any such appearance indicates a higher consciousness, morality, and the divine spark within each of us.

Buddha: Introspection.

The path of positive speech and acting in accord.

Gandhi: Empowerment that comes from knowing your own mind.

A guru: Looking for, and dependence upon, spiritual insights from other people. Remember that your own heart is the best guru to guide your life.

A wizard: Mastery over the elements, and the ability to foresee the consequences of actions. Alternatively, a stage magician represents trickery and illusion meant to fool people.

King Arthur: Wise and peaceful leadership. Having a real understanding of equity.

Merlin: A tutorial image from your Higher Self who helps you see things differently, from a more metaphysical perspective.

Kings and queens: People, situations, or ideals in your life that have some authority over you.

The questions to ponder here are how much control do they have and how healthy is it for you? Look at other elements in the dream to determine this. Alternatively, these may be reflections of your own Higher Self, and self-rulership.

Divine favor, and the God-self within. Kings and queens regularly wore lapis to encourage blessings and as a mark of divine right.

Asserting your independence. In Sumer and other parts of the ancient world, lapis was used as a signature stone not unlike hei’aldic emblems were later, or our modern seals.

The color of lapis makes it a symbol of the psychic nature, peace, and uplifting emotions.

A queen speaks of royalty and favor.

Positive: As believers we are all kings and queens in the Lord. It speaks of our position and authority in Christ. It also speaks of the blessing and favor we have with the Lord because of this position.

• When I see this then I know that the Lord is saying that this person should see herself as a queen, and to lift up her head and act like a queen, instead of groveling like a beggar!
