Meaning of Foreigner / Foreign Languages Dreams | Dream Interpretation

Dream interpretations were found from 1 different sources.

According to dream-lore, friendly foreigners in dreams are symbols of good luck, but a person in your dream who is foreign or who speaks an unfamiliar language may represent a part of yourself that you do not fully understand or accept. You may be neglecting important feelings or talents, or the dream may be mirroring a sense of frustration caused by problems in communicating with someone in waking life. The latter is often the case when you dream of a letter that is illegible or written in a foreign language, although such a dream could also suggest frustration with not being able to solve some difficult issue in waking life.

Whilst hearing foreign or strange languages in a dream can suggest misunderstandings, it can also be symbolic of some kind of communication from within, something important that has not yet become clear enough for us to understand or put into words.

If you pay attention to the strange language, the next stage of understanding will follow. In spiritualism, hearing strange language is communication from discarnate beings.

Foreign

Dreams of anyone or anything foreign denote that you are expanding your horizons. When you remove yourself from your day-To-day life, and explore new and foreign terrain, you are able to bring back a wealth of information and perspective that enriches and benefits your life. This dream also denotes that you may be feeling out of your element, away from your tribe; you are in the midst of a transition, learning and discovering aspects of yourself you never knew existed. As you evolve, you may be feeling unfamiliar in your own skin, going through an identity crisis; you are not who you used to be and you are not yet who you are becoming. Keep in mind that wherever you go, home resides within you. See Alien and Travel.... Strangest Dream Explanations

Foreign Countries

Should you find yourself visiting, observing, holidaying or living in a foreign country in your dreams, your dream is placing the spotlight on attitudes and emotional climates that are different to yours.

Such dreams can also represent meeting an aspect of yourself that is unknown or foreign; the unfamiliar.

If you feel contented in your dream, this suggests excitement about new opportunities in waking life. If, however, you feel insecure and vulnerable, and long to return to the familiar, this is widely interpreted by both Freudians and Jungians as a desire to return to the security of the womb in times of difficulty.

Your associations, beliefs or opinions about a certain country also need to be explored. Do any aspects of your life connect with what appears in the dream? For example, have you previously visited or worked in the country featured in your dream or do you know someone who lives there? What is the main action in the dream, and what is your role in it? Are you meeting things— perhaps for the first time—that you fear in your dream; how do they make you feel? What are the symbols in the dream and can you make any connections with your waking circumstances? See also PLACES; TRAVEL.

Foreign Country

If the foreign country was one that you have either been to and loved, or always wanted to visit, this is a sign that the attainment of your heart’s desire is closer than you think. It also means that you should keep working on it and not be discouraged in spite of any setbacks.

If the foreign country is strange, or the people unfriendly, or if it’s a country where violence, war, and other unfavorable situations are occurring, then something or someone in your life is leading you into strange and unfamiliar territory which could at the very least make you uncomfortable. Foreign Language

If you had a dream in which you could not understand what people were saying to you, this suggests that you are feeling excluded from your social circle or family, and that everyone seems to be speaking the same language apart from you. Alternatively, your unconscious may be urging you to learn a new language or broaden your horizons in some way. Language, Foreign Or Strange

One function of dreams is to bring aspects of our thinking or feeling, which may be ill defined, towards clarification. Foreign or strange language may therefore illustrate something which is being communicated to us from within, but is still not clear.

The unconscious, as in speaking in tongues—glossolalia—and of course in dreams, frequently moves towards clear awareness in stages.

The strange language is a halfway house, as is a dream.

If we bring focused attention to these, as explained in dream processing, the next step, clear verbal expression, can be reached. Speaking in language we are learning: the language is becoming habitual, making it possible to think in it. See speaking. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Languages

The origin of the language, if known, may have import here.

For example, if your family originated in Italv and vou dream in Italian, this may be a subconscious desire to learn more about your heritage.

The letters in some languages, like the Norse and Germanic runes and certain Hebraic characters, have very specific symbolic values.

For more insight, peruse a book on the appropriate language at your local library, or ask someone who is familiar with the tongue (see Pictographs).

If the language is unrecognized, write it phonetically in your journal for future reference. This may he a past life memory, a spiritual message, or a type of glossolalia (speaking in tongues) that can be interpreted later.

Languages

This is a symbol of unconscious messages that are not yet decipherable or understood. This interpretation applies only to a language that you do not know or that was created out of the dream world.

If you know more than one language, then dreaming in different languages is a reflection of where you are in your life and what the language in question means for you from your past. Words are the basis of all thought and all reality. When words that you do not understand show up in a dream, the unconscious is deliberately masking some information by changing the rules. Use the context of the dream to assess the height of the stakes. This would apply both to the information that is being expressed by the unconscious and to the emotional meaning attached to your reaction to being unable to decipher any literal meaning.

If you recognize the language being spoken by virtue of sounds and cadences, then apply whatever associations you have with that culture to the dream interpretation.

If the language is made-up and you can remember any specific words, sounds, or phrases, use them in your process to see if you can draw any parallels with words you know. There may be a rhythmic or phonic connection to the nonsense words of your dream. Do not be afraid of being overly literal.

If someone else is speaking to you in the dream, then the message is coming from the deep unconscious.

If you are speaking the foreign tongue yourself, it may indicate that the new information is already integrated as part of you. More investigation will likely need to be done before you will be able to understand and utilize the information being presented.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams
