Color Connections

When remembering the colors in your dreams, it is important to recall if the colors were bright and vivid, or muted and faded, as the strength of the colors may be linked directly to your emotions and emotional needs at the time of the dream. Rich, clear colors may signify inner strength or a sense of well-being, whereas weak colors may represent feelings of being jaded or washed out in some way.

There is a clear difference between light and dark in the dream, especially if it features an indoor location. Darkness can mean that your situation is unclear or confused; it could also suggest being in unknown or difficult territory, or it may represent a secret part of yourself or a part that you do not know.

Another interpretation suggests depression or the darker aspects of life. Light is the opposite. Light represents clearness, insight and enlightenment, and can signify the light at the end of the tunnel or seeing the light. It also has much to do with confidence. To feel lighter suggests feeling good about yourself.

If the light is very bright, it can suggest the development of intuition or insight.

If your dream took place in the bright daytime sunshine or in the shadow of a dark night, your memory of the dream will be tinged with optimism, associated with the light and brightness, or pessimism, associated with the darkness.

If a gray and faded shade of green appeared in your dream, this may be referring to the dullness of your waking life. On the other hand, if the green was bright and vivid, it may be suggesting a period of new growth. Background colors therefore play an important part in creating the ambience or feel of the dream and in influencing your reaction to it. For example, if you have a favorite or least-favorite color, its appearance in your dream may also reinforce your positive and negative reaction to it.

In some instances, you may find yourself trying to interpret a dream but the details have faded from your memory; that is apart from the glittering dark blue suit your friend was wearing. Why would your unconscious have dressed your friend in this way? The answer may lie in the archetypal symbolic meaning of blue, or your personal association with it. Indeed, any color that was highlighted in your dream may have been sending you a message from your unconscious; your task is to try to make a link between what that color means to you, the context in which it appeared, your real-life circumstances and the symbolic connotations associated with that particular color.... Colors

Colors that appear in dreams express your inner impulses and that is why they complement the meaning. Psychologists often conduct a test of colors on their patients in order to determine their emotional status. An expert in feng shui also makes sure to have, at home, the color that attracts good fortune. However, depending on each individual the interpretation of each color varies, because every person has particular chromatic associations. The basic colors are YELLOW, BLUE, and RED. All other colors are the result of the combination of these three. Every color, as discussed below, has its own duality. Depending on the situation of the dreamer, the meaning is either. Red is the color of vital force, it represents passion and sexuality, but can also denote fury and blood. Orange is the refinement of passions, and is often associated with balance and healing. Yellow is associated with artistic inspiration, but there are cases in which it symbolizes cowardice. Green is the color of nature that brings hope and new life, although sometimes it expresses jealousy and envy. Blue is all the spiritual matters, it implies harmony and (like the sky) liberty; however, sometimes, it represents sadness. Purple is the color of royalty and spiritual knowledge. Black denotes depression and unconsciousness. Finally, white symbolizes purity.

For a medium, every living thing has an aura (an energy field around the body) of a particular color. In this sense, the oneiric meaning of colors is related to the spiritual value they are traditionally associated. So, red is sensuality; orange, purity; yellow, inspiration; green, recovery; blue, healing; purple, clairvoyance; black, disease; brown, stability; and white spirituality.... Dreaming in color is often viewed as a particular phenomenon that sets a dream apart from others you have. There is an implication here that if a memorable dream is thought of as being vibrantly filled with color, other dreams must be in black and white by comparison. However, all dreams are likely to be experienced with various intensities of color, and the memory of vibrant color is just one more way the unconscious is speaking to you. Light is experienced as white, but if it is refracted into separate wavelengths, the naked eye can perceive the seven distinct bands of color that make it up.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

Colors

Your dreams may be crowded with colors, only for your conscious mind to forget them on waking.

This is one of the reasons why many people believe we only dream in black and white. Some people do only dream in black and white, but many of us also dream in color.

If you are one of those people who notice and appreciate colors in waking life, you are far more likely to notice them in your dreams. Yet because most of us regard color as being incidental to the action, we don’t pay attention to it in our dreams and tend not to remember it when awake. However, focusing more attention on the color aspect of your dreams may help lead to a richer, more accurate and fulfilling interpretation.

For example, let’s say you dream of a statue that falls from its place on the mantelpiece and crashes to the floor. Your interpretation would probably initially focus on the symbolism of the statue crashing, but if you also recalled that the statue was actually green in your dream, then another possible interpretation could be added using the color symbolism of green, which is typically associated with jealousy. So could your unconscious be warning you that your jealousy, or someone else’s jealousy, will lead to unhappiness if it remains unchecked?

Color is a vibrant part of symbolism. This is partly due to tradition and partly due to the vibratory frequency each individual color possesses. Research has been carried out to discover the effect of color on people, and it has been shown that working with color can impact your mood, your thoughts and even your behavior. The effect is so significant that psychologists use color testing for emotional intelligence reports. Not surprisingly then, the colors in your dreams can tell you a great deal about your emotional state. So, if an individual color, or collection of colors, dominates or features in your dream (such as wearing a color you never usually wear), its symbolism will be significant, as color always evokes a strong emotional reaction. Try to work out exactly what that color could represent, as it is likely your subconscious is trying to comment on something by using that particular color as a symbol. Since many colors have archetypal feelings and emotions attached to them, the approach taken by Jung is considered helpful. However, it may be—because of an experience you have had with it—that a particular color transcends a Jungian meaning Dream colors have symbolic associations attached to them but, as is the case for all dream images, their meaning can vary from person to person because you may have your own personal and special associations with that particular color. It’s important to bear these associations in mind. Ask yourself whether the color reminds you of anything or anyone: a specific person, a body part, a childhood toy or some other object? For example, the color red may remind you of the first bike you ever rode, which was red, or the bunch of red roses your partner gave you on your first date together.

In a nutshell, the message from your unconscious when color features in your dream may be connected to your personal association with that shade, or it may have archetypal significance. Take a look at this chapter for some clues to its symbolic meaning and to ascertain your personal association. In this context, it might help to think about how you would describe the color to someone who is blind. What personal feelings and thoughts arise when you think of red, blue or yellow, for example? Bear in mind that as well as human emotions, colors also emphasize and reflect positive or negative forces in your life; so when you are considering the implications of color in a dream, you also need to think about where they appear: on animals, trees, birds, people, yourself and so on. As with all dream interpretations, trust your gut reactions first and look for the associations that make sense to you.... The Element Encyclopedia

1- Gold in dreams suggests the best, most valuable aspects of ourselves. Finding gold indicates that we can discover those characteristics in ourselves or others. Burying gold shows that we are trying to hide something perhaps information or knowledge that we have.

2- Gold in dreams can also represent the sacred, dedicated side of ourselves. We can recognise incorruptibility and wisdom, love, patience and care. Interestingly; in this context it seldom stands for material wealth, being more the spiritual assets that one has.

3- The old saying of ‘everything that glitters isn’t gold’ certainly doesn’t apply in the spiritual sense.

Dreaming about numbers often reveals connections to past or future events. Numbers can mean a birth date, house number, or the number of a year. They always refer to important events—or our unconscious would not use them as reminders. Numbers are also visionary inspirations that we can use playing the lottery or other number-games.

Gold

Easy come, easy go is the message contained in a dream featuring the pre- cious stuff as such, i.e., in bars or nuggets, etc.

How- ever, there are many vari- ations dependent on the action and details.

Gold cloth, garments, embroid- ery, or trimmings signify honors and/or recognition; looking for gold indicates that a successful change of unsatisfactory conditions can be made through your own initiative. Finding and/or mining, melting or working with it is a re- minder that “all is not gold that glitters,” and you must guard against a ten- dency to be too easily taken in by appearances.

Hiding it suggests that you are not aggressive enough about protecting your own interests; take positive ac- tion. Stealing or counting gold is a warning that “the love of money” is truly a root of evil and can be very costly.

Items made of gold, such as tableware, jewelry, medals, coins, etc., or gold-plated items, are a forerunner of steady fi- nancial gain.

Gold

Gold is the image of sunlight and, therefore, of divine intelligence and life. Consequently, this material symbolizes all things superior, plus the hidden treasure of our true Self (i.e., the spiritual goods and supreme enlightenment). However, its mercantilist connotations can alter all these meanings, so it is also associated with money and jewelry. (See COINS and JEWELS)

Gold

Gold is the most precious element on the planet.

The theory goes that it arrived here from space in the early formation of the solar system. As a symbol, gold represents the highest and most precious thing to strive for, both as a material possession and in more amorphous constructs. In the myths of the alchemist, great effort was put toward taking baser metals and turning them into gold.

This is symbolic itself of the notion that lower consciousness, such as fear, doubt, and lack, can be transmuted into the gold of consciousness: love. What are you valuing above all else in your life? Is your search for the gold in some situation bringing out the best in you or the worst? Let the context of your dream answer these deeper questions when gold shows up as a symbol.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

To dream of the color gold is often connected with wealth and prosperity, but note that the reference may be to other forms of wealth, such as emotional or spiritual riches. Some dream analysts suggest that dreams featuring gold are linked to growth, maturity and aging. It is helpful if you noticed what exactly was covered in gold in your dream, as it may represent something that is valuable or of deep significance to you. Was everything in gold, or was it just one item? Was the gold out of reach, or could you touch it? The context of the dream will help you with the interpretation. Goldfish

These water-dwelling creatures may represent messages from your unconscious, indicating to you how well you are navigating through your emotional waters.

They could also symbolize the nourishment of body and soul, and navigation through the unknown depths of ourselves. Generally, fish in a bowl or aquarium suggest constricting emotional conditions in which aspects of your personality are prevented from expressing themselves. They may also refer to aspects of yourself that need to be nourished emotionally. To dream of a goldfish bowl may simply suggest boredom, or a lack of privacy or confidentiality.

If the fish in your dream are goldfish, the symbolism of gold—suggestive of the most valuable aspects of yourself—cannot be ignored. Crucial to your interpretation will be the condition of the fish and your attitude towards them. Are they enjoying their safe and secure life in captivity, or are they suffering? If the latter, is it time for you to be a little more adventurous and creative in your waking life?... The Element Encyclopedia

Violet (color)

Consistency and perfection.

It is the symbol of the search for transcendency (violet is the color on the edge of the invisible, the ultraviolet light). It represents the highest, almost delicate vibration of the spectrum, similar to inspiration and spirituality.

The color violet is very soothing. It depends on light, and under different light can take on very different shades.

Also, but rarely, violet is the color of passion. Red, as the color of the body, and Blue, as the color of the soul, combine to make purple—the body and the soul united.

It is the most important color for the magic of love. As the witches’ color, violet became the color of feminists. In Byzantium, violet was the color of power. Up to the 19th century in some parts of Europe, it was considered a color of grief and sorrow. In Roman Catholicism, it is the color of the robes of bishops. Violet is also used to stand in for black, the symbol of humility and repentance in the Catholic Church. See Violet (flower), Lilac.... Little Giant Encyclopedia
