Accepting From Or Giving To The Deceased Something

Accepting something from the dead is regarded as good while giving him something is regarded as bad.

If a person sees a dead person giving him something of this world it mean he will acquire livelihood from an unimaginable source. And if he sees himself giving a dead person clothes normally worn by living persons and he accepts such clothes and wears them it means he (the giver) has a short life span.... Bedclothes

In some respects this is a dream of contrary which pertains primarily to your finances.

If you are well off and you dreamed of having lots of bedclothes, it is a warning against serious reverses through lack of proper supervision of your investments.

But if your income is on the modest to poor side, you can expect a comfortable improvement shortly.

To dream of putting a bolster on a bed signifies an embarrassing marital situation coming up; to put fresh slips on pillows predicts an approaching opportunity which should be grasped.

However, if your dream specifically concerned the condition of the bedclothes, then its significance must be interpreted according to whether the bed was clean and neatly made, pleasant or unpleasant in appearance, white or colored linen, etc., and such details should be looked up under their separate headings.... Black Person

Depends which skin colour one has.

If white: one’s natural drives, feelings about coloured people; or if person is known, what you feel about them.

If black or brown: one’s own cultural feelings; same as any person’ dream.

Example: \ was in a cubicle or small toilet with a very black coloured woman. She told me there was something wrong with her vagina. She was undressed. I rubbed her vagina and we both felt enormous passion. I then awoke but couldn’t at first remember the dream. I have refrained from sexual intercourse for some weeks, as I always feel shattered/ tired afterwards. Anyway I woke very wet, yet couldn’t remember any orgasm. I could remember some question of sex as I awoke. Then I remembered the dream and continued it in fantasy. I experienced powerful urges to find a woman to have a non-committed sexual relationship with. But in the end I wanted to share my feelings with my wife, but she seemed deep asleep and unresponsive. When I slept again I dreamt I was in London, had got off one bus, but was not at any destination. I was standing about not making a move to find my direction. Then I began to look’ (Alfred C).

To understand this dream in some depth it is helpful to think of a sexual drive as a flow, like a river. As such it can be blocked, in which case it will seek an alternative route. Sexual energy or flow is not simply a mechanical thing, ihough; it is also deeply feeling in its connection with the most profound sides of human life such as parenthood and the canng and providing for young. In the history of white people a great deal of sexual frustration has arisen out of the ideas of sin and guilt in their religion.

A view arose for the white race that the black races had an easier and less frustrating relationship with the natural —which includes not only sexuality but the body as a whole, and nature also. So when Alfred dreams of the black woman, he is meeting what is natural and flowing in himself, but which he has blocked by his will because he felt shattered after sex.

The pan about the bus shows him trying to find a direction in which his sexual feelings could move satisfyingly in connection with other people.

Unfonunately, as Jung points out in Man and His Symbols, people in modern society, whether black, yellow, brown or white, have lost their sense of nature and the cosmos as being anything other than processes without consciousness or living feeling. Jung says. No river contains a spirit, no tree is the life principle of a man. no snake the embodiment of wisdom. No voice now speaks to man from stones, plants, and animals, nor does he speak to them believing they can hear.’ The importance of such dreams as Arthur’s is that it shows the passionate relationship between our personality and the pnmitive and natural.

A black person, born and bred in a modern setting, would most likely dream of a black bushman to depict their own natural drives. See identity and dreams; Africa; sex in dreams. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Clothes

Example: I am packing for a holiday, surrounded by a lovely selection of all sorts of clothes. I am matching outfits, shoes, scarves, handbags. It gives me great pleasure. I am wearing an old navy blue dress which is too shon for me. So shon I feel panic because there will not be enough time to change. I am now on the top deck of a bus. I have one battered suitcase and am wearing the same dress, trying vainly to pull it down over my knees. Suitcase bursts open and it is full of old clothes fit for a jumble sale* (Valerie H). Clothes can mean many things, depending upon dream context. In the example the clothes are feelings of pleasure and confidence, and also discomfort and lack of confidence.

In general they indicate the stance or attitudes we use to meet other people or special situations such as work or danger, protection, such as might be given by our feelings of reserve, shyness, anxiety or aggressiveness in fending off sexual or other advances, clothes depict self respect and how we see ourselves in society—the difference between what we want and what we feel others want of us; our clothes, especially when we consider their colour, can also express our emotional condition and moods. Constance Newland gives the example of dressing in violet symbolising being inviolate sexually. Overdressed , unable to get clothes off: too cautious in relationships, difficulty in changing attitudes or self image; self protectiveness; avoiding intimacy.

Naked or see-through clothes: example: ‘I am at the doctor’s being examined.

It is always the same. I have all my clothes off and he examines me from the roots of my hair down to my toenails. I am just at the point where I am going to ask him for his diagnosis when he fades away’ (Miss L). Desire to be attractive and noticed, as in the example, where Miss L is enjoying an acceptable form of intimacy; being open about what you really feel; fear of other people seeing what you really feel, think and desire; anxiety about not being adequate socially, lacking ability to conform to social norm. See nude. Ragged or inappropriate clothes: feelings of inadequacy depressed feelings; rebellion against authority or society. Armour, protective clothing : defences against internal anxieties, past hurts and external intimacy. Other people’s clothes: the social attitudes and responses we have adopted from others. Children’s, teenage clothes in adult’s dream: youthful or immature attitudes or behaviour. Undressing: revealing one’s real character; move towards intimacy. Dirty, untidy clothes: difficult or grubby feelings; one’s inner condition, such as an untidy mind, or grubby feeling values. Worn out or old clothes: attitudes ready to be left behind; old habits no longer useful; feeling worn out, old or tired. Tight clothes: being too restricted in attitude; being tight emotionally. New clothes: change in attitudes; new feeling about self. Someone else’s clothes: could be feelings from that person; their attitudes, memories. Man in woman’s clothes: unacceptability of male role, with its connection with breadwinning, aggression, being cannon fodder in war, homosexual tendency; desire for mother. Woman in male clothes: unacceptability of female role, motherhood, housewife; lesbian tendency; desire for father figure. Clothing inappropnate to dream surroundings: attitudes or behaviour inappropriate to one’s situation. Changing clothes: altering one’s mode of behaviour, role or mood. Idioms: dress to kill; dress up. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Clothes

1- “flic clothes we wear in a dream can often depict the facade, or persona, we create for other people. We have certain roles that we adopt in response to other’s reactions. Clothes which others are wearing in our dreams can also set the scene for an acting out of some of the confrontations which take place.

2- Clothes can often act as a protection against being touched. This protection may also be against having the real self violated. Clothes can conceal or reveal. In covering up nudity they conceal our perceived imperfections and, by implication, disguise our sexuality. In revealing certain parts of us our dreams may show in what ways we are v ulnerable. Getting undressed can suggest the shedding of old beliefs and inhibitions. Losing one’s clothes or being naked highlights our vulnerability and fears. Dressing inappropriately, e.g. wearing formal clothes on a casual occasion and vice versa When we find ourselves in this position in a dream, we are conscious of our own difficulty in ‘fitting in’ with other people. It will depend 011 the dream scenario whether we are surprised or distressed. and it is often the emotion that we experience which gives us the correct interpretation. We may be deliberately not conforming to others’ perception of us, or trying to conform too much in adopting a certain role.

The colour of the clothing is often significant (see Colour). Clothes being worn by someone to whom they do not belong There is confusion in the dreamer’s mind as to which roles are appropriate for each character.

A man wearing woman’s clothing The dreamer needs to be more conscious of their feminine side.

A uniform on a woman The dreamer is highlighting the need to be aware of the more disciplined and masculine side of their personality. Changing clothes We are attempting to change our image. Clothes that have been cut short We may be outgrowing former pleasures and need to look to pastures new for our entertainment. Pretty clothes We have much to appreciate in our lives. Clothes belonging to a particular person We are being reminded of that person, even though we are aware that they cannot necessarily be with us.

Various articles of clothing are believed to have certain symbolic meanings:

Coat/Shawl (and especially a cloak) A coat can suggest warmth and love, but also protection. This protection can be either physical or emotional, and particularly in the case of a cloak, can be the spiritual protection of Faith.

A sheepskin coat may emphasise this significance (also see Sheep in Animals). Fear of losing the coat can suggest the fear of losing faith and belief.

The coat may be too short, or not thick enough We may be fearful that our love, or the protection we have, is not adequate for our needs.

Gloves - also see individual entry The meaning of gloves can be ambivalent. They can represent covering and protecting oneself, but also ‘showing one’s hand’ and challenging the status quo.

Hat/Cap

A hat is a symbol of wisdom and the intellect and also of protection. It can also signify both spirituality and sexuality, depending 011 the other aspects of the dream.

Pyjamas/Nightclothes

Pyjamas suggest relaxation and hence openness.

Raincoat A raincoat again holds the symbolism of protection, but this time against other people’s emotional onslaught. Very occasionally it may suggest some kind of wish to return to a womb- like state.

Shirt A shirt can suggest appropriate action, but also, as in a hair shirt, grief and pcnitencc.

Shoes

Shoes signify our ability or otherwise to be grounded and in touch with everyday life.

Recognising shoes that we, or others, arc wearing in a dream are strange alerts us to an adjustment that needs to be made to our attitude to life. Lacing up shoes in a dream is supposed to be a well-known symbol of death as are shoes on a table. Tie A tie in can have several significances in dreams.

For some it can represent correctness and good behaviour, and for others, presumably because of its shape, it will signify the phallus.

Underclothes

When we dream of underclothes - whether our own or other people’s we arc considering hidden attitudes to self-image or sexuality.

Veil or veil-like garments (also see individual entry) When we, or others, are wearing a veil we are either trying to hide something, or arc only partially accepting knowledge about ourselves or our relationship to others.

3- Clothes can suggest spiritual protection.

For instance, certain types of clothes will highlight roles and status.... Ten Thousand Dream Dictionary

Clothes

(see Apron, Closet, Costume, Hat, Jewelry, Mask, Shoes, Tie, Veil)

How do the clothes feel? Are they itchy or uncomfortable? If so, this reveals discomfort with yourself or a situation in which you’ve been placed.

Old or tattered clothing indicates self-neglect or feelings of inferiority.

Changing clothes: A transition in status, jobs, relationships, and the like.

A statement of individuality and how you see yourself (e.g., “clothes make the man”).

Rejecting or throwing away out-of-date clothing: New enterprises, loves, characteristics. Forsaking outmoded ways of thinking and living.

Each color of clothing has different oracular value. Yellow indicates financial progress, blue portends success from tenacious efforts, red reveals a timely deliverance from a difficult situation, green is prosperity and happiness, and mixed hues foretell swift changes.

Each item of clothing also has slightly different meaning, much of which is dependent on your perception.

For example, a businessman dreaming about tying his tie again and again might interpret this as too much attention to his appearance at

work instead of the work quality.

Dreaming of tightening your belt probably relates to financial struggles.

Dirty clothing sometimes represents the soiling of someone’s virtues.

Cross-dressing represents a figurative “trying on” of masculine or feminine attributes that you wish to develop. This can also reveal a greater balance of the Yin-Yang energies within you (see Hermaphrodite, Homosexuality).... The Language of Dreams

(1) The feelings associated in the dream with the clothes you are wearing may indicate what your feelings are towards yourself, especially in relation to the image you present to the world. For example, if in your dream you feel inadequately clothed, this may mean you feel vulnerable or inadequate, or ashamed (perhaps in certain kinds of situation, which may be shown in the dream).

(2) If you are wearing old and worn-out clothes, this may indicate either anxiety about your attractiveness or feelings of inferiority, or that you need to discard some habitual way of meeting life, some set of (negative) attitudes or beliefs.

(3) If old and tattered clothes are worn in the dream by someone else, this probably means there is some part of you - some capacity or aspect of your potential self - that you are neglecting or keeping locked away in the cellars of your psyche.

If the person wearing the tattered clothes is of the opposite sex, your anima or animus may be in need of attention (for anima / animus). See also Brother / Sister, Cinderella.

Clothes

Clothing is very connected to your own personal self-expression and to the principle of the persona. What we choose to wear has enormous implications for how we feel about ourselves and how we would like the world to perceive us. Symbolically, clothing represents creative personal expression. However, clothes can also represent the ways in which we cover up who we really are and alter what the world sees. Additionally, the clothing we wear at any given time can reveal things about our moods and emotional states that might otherwise go unnoticed.

The quality and style of clothing in a dream will provide you with different shades of meaning for your interpretation. Old clothes might represent old ways of being that are being stirred up. New clothes could indicate a desire or need to match your inner growth and shifts with your outer presentation.

A costume might illuminate roles you are playing in your life that are false, whereas your own clothes indicate that the issue at hand is with your present sense of self. Being inappropriately dressed represents your concern about fitting in with others. Wearing too many clothes can sometimes indicate a lack of comfort with your sexuality or body image. Having to deal with many layers of clothing denotes that there are obstacles between where you are and a deeper level of authentic expression.

A desire to take clothes off may mean a need to break out of a stereotypical role you find yourself in, while adding more clothes could mean putting on a few more layers in order to protect yourself from perceived outside harm. Clothes And Image

Dreams about clothes are very common and they usually tell you something about your self-image.

In waking life, clothes protect, conceal and reveal and so in dreams they depict the façade, or persona, you create for other people; by so doing, they tell you where you may be vulnerable or exposed in waking life. The colors and condition of your dream clothes are especially important as they may symbolize how you are feeling about yourself, or how others perceive you. For example, if you were dressed in brightly colored designer clothes and were basking in the admiration of others, this may indicate good self-esteem, whereas if you were dressed in dark, shabby-looking garments in dreamland, and you felt miserable and self-conscious, it may be that this is how you are feeling in the real world.

Dreams about clothes can often focus on whether you are wearing the right outfit for the right occasion. For example, you may turn up at a party dressed totally inappropriately, you may have problems getting dressed, or you may find yourself walking naked down a busy street. Such dreams are rarely about sex and more about feelings of vulnerability, although they are sometimes about freedom from inhibitions. See also COLORS.... The Element Encyclopedia

Clothing

(Dwellings; Face; Look; State; Transient) One’s garment in a dream represents his innermost thoughts that will eventually show in his attitude in life.

If one’s thoughts are good, then it will show, and if they are evil, they will also manifest.

If a man sees himself wearing a woman’s apparel in a dream, it means that he is a bachelor. Ifa woman sees herself wearing a man’s garment in a dream, it means that she is unmarried. Wearing a tightly buttoned shirt in a dream means experiencing tight circumstances or reuniting with a traveller returning home, or it could mean marriage for an unwed person. Clothing

Clothing generally represent our worldly appearance or status. At times, it may represent our attitudes toward ourselves and others. Mostly, it represent the way that we appear to the world. Clothes are not symbolic of our private self, but rather of our public self.

A poor man wears different clothes than a rich man.

A doctor’s attire is different from that of a carpenter.

The type of clothing that we wear varies from situation to situation.

The type of clothes that you are wearing in the dream will give you clues to the meaning of the dream and to your unconscious ideas about yourself and others.... The Bedside Dream Dictionary

Clothing

Dreaming of wearing clothes that are totally inappropriate - such as wearing a bathing suit on the ski slopes - indicates circumstances in your life that require a reality check before you can move ahead.

If in the dream you change your clothes, you’ll be successful.

A dream of being naked in public is a very common type of dream, and usually means that the dreamer feels exposed, vulnerable and at the mercy of others.

Dressing yourself, especially if in fashionable clothes, indicates advancement socially and professionally. Undressing, however, indicates temporary setbacks.

Dirty, soiled, or worn clothing is a warning not to take anyone’s word for anything. Get the facts yourself.

Clothing

Clothing reflects the importance of appearance. It could show your true personality or hide your imperfections. It also reveals desire for elegance, notoriety, and success in love. The color and type of garment will supply more information about the meaning of this dream. So, clothing with bright colors evidences the need to call the attention of others, and generally, a lack in security. Warm colors denote happiness and optimism. Dark and cold colors indicate secrets and depression.

If your clothing is worn, you should rethink some of your habits and attitudes. In this sense, you may need to improve yourself. When you dream that you are changing clothes, it means that you will soon experience developments in your life. And, if it is tight on you, maybe you are restricting some issue too much: it could be an emotional relationship or a position at work. (See SHIRT, TORN, NUDITY, RAGS, MAKEUP, and PANTS)

The earliest oneiric interpretations found say that dreaming of a nude woman predicts good luck, as you will be provided with unexpected satisfactions. In contrast, dreaming that you are wearing too much clothing means that your vital needs are not covered.

Dreaming of new clothing, lastly, foretells a domestic argument.... The Big Dictionary of Dreams

Clothing

Clothing in a dream often depicts the self ’s persona. Old ragged clothing can mean old ways and ideas need to be, or are about to be, changed. Much changing of clothes or costumes can also suggest the need for change, and trying to fit into a new way of being in the world. Likewise, the wearing of new and beautiful garments often suggests new things in the life of the dreamer, such as social or economic improvement. (See also Costume.)... Dead Person / Corpse

To dream of a dead person or corpse usually represents some aspect of your life that has died. It can refer to the death of feelings in connection with someone, to the depression that follows big changes in your life or to the feeling that you are going nowhere. Alternatively, the dead person may be a part of yourself that you want to leave behind or it could be a warning that you are taking too much from life and not putting enough back.

If you dreamed of the death of a loved one who is seriously ill or advanced in years, your unconscious may have been preparing you for their future departure from your life. By exposing you in the dream to emotions that will overwhelm you, your shock may be lessened and thus easier to bear.

Dreams such as this one may also be urging you to tell loved ones how much they mean to you before it is too late. If, in your dream, you felt no emotion at all when a loved one died, the interpretation is likely to be different, as it represents something in your life that is coming to an end or that should end. An alternative explanation is that you fear the death of your relationship, particularly if your partner has withdrawn emotionally from you in the waking world. A dream in which you became a widow or widower or suffer bereavement can indicate feelings of loneliness in waking life.

If you are in a relationship, such a dream may suggest that there is a lack of understanding or a communication breakdown between you and your partner. For dreams of a dead person see GHOSTS.... The Element Encyclopedia

Deceased Relatives

At times we dream about deceased relatives or friends simply because we miss them. These dreams may be disturbing but most likely are a form of wish fulfillment or are based on memory through which we relive old experiences. Some people believe that in dreams they meet up with the deceased on the inner planes and engage in “real” interactions with them.

It is normal to miss and long for the people that we loved and that have left the physical body. Therefore, it is not surprising that they will pop up in your dreams from time to time.

Dressing (clothes)

Dreams of getting dressed symbolize that you are suiting up and showing up in life, preparing to present yourself in a way that represents the image you show to the world. You are covering up your nakedness and authenticity with a socially acceptable exterior.

Dressing In Other People’s Clothes

Clothes are the protective layer that keeps you warm, but they are also a way to express your personality or hide imperfections. In dreams, what you wear is often a symbol of your self-image or inner self, and if you dress in clothes that obviously belong to other people, this is a clear sign that you have problems accepting yourself as you truly are. It can, on the other hand, suggest admiration for the person whose clothes you are wearing.

For Jungians, wearing clothes of the opposite sex may signal the dreamer’s need to express the anima (female aspects of the male nature) or the animus (male aspects of the female nature). For Freudians, a child dressing up in adult clothes, particularly if the clothes are those of the opposite sex, may suggest childhood rivalry with one parent for the affections of the opposite sex parent.

If you are simply changing outfit in your dream, this may suggest altering your mode of behavior, role or mood.

If you astonish yourself by shopping for, buying and wearing unusual clothes in your dream that you would never normally wear in waking life, then your unconscious may have been suggesting that you have become too set in your ways and outlook, and that it is time to open your mind up to new opinions. Is it time for you to break out of your rut and for other people to sit up and notice you?

On the other hand if you dress casually in waking life and dream of wearing a business suit, your unconscious may be urging you to adopt a more business- like approach.

If you were surprised by the color of the clothes in your dream— either your own or those belonging to someone else—then see if that color has significance for you (see COLORS).

If you find yourself dressed in expensive designer clothes you couldn’t normally afford, this may also be simple wish- fulfillment, especially if you are fashion conscious.... The Element Encyclopedia

Elderly Person

An unknown elderly person in a dream represents one’s good luck, happiness and one’s assiduity and diligence.

If the unknown elderly person looks strong in the dream, he represents one’s strength. Otherwise, if he looks feeble, then he represents one’s weakness. Whatever physical conditions an elderly person is seen with in the dream, such condition will reflect in one’s own state.

If an elderly person comes toward the person seeing the dream, it means that someone will help him attain a praiseworthy rank. Ifone follows an elderly person in a dream, it means that he follows a good path.

If one sees an elderly person and displeases him in the dream, it means that he will displease a close friend or reject his advice. Ifhe pleases him in the dream, it means that he will consent with a close good friend and they will walk together on the path to reap material as well as spiritual benefits. Ifone sees a gathering of friendly people but could not determine whether they are young or elderly in a dream, it means that he will discover new avenues in his life and he will draw material and spiritual benefits from them.

If he sees a gathering of young people he does not recognize in the dream, it means that he will associate himself with rich people.

If he sees a gathering of elderly people he does not recognize in the dream, it means that he will associate himself with good friends.

If a woman sees an elderly person she could not recognize in the dream, he represents the world.

If a young man sees himself turned into an elderly person in a dream, it means that he will acquire knowledge and wisdom. Listening to a good looking elderly person in a dream means receiving honor and rank.

If an elderly person sees himself turned young in a dream, it represents his strength, wealth, good living and a healthy life, or it could mean material or religious losses, or it could mean his death. Ifan elderly person sees himselfbeingborn again in a dream, it means his death.

If he is ill, it could represent his attachment to the world, and if he is poor, it could denote his earning.

If an elderly person sees himself as a youth in a dream, it could also mean committing a childish act or an unwise act.

A wise elderly person in a dream represents honor, rank, dignity, wealth, blessings and longevity. On the other hand, seeing an elderly person in a dream could represents failure, weaknesses, defeat, disablement or inertness.

Meeting A Famous Person

Famous people appear in dreamland just as they do in the media. On the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, thousands of people described how they had dreamed of her. During his presidency, Bill Clinton was also an extremely common dream figure in the United States. His vitality and leadership ability seemed to strike a chord with men and women alike. As they sorted through power issues in themselves and others, dreams of the president offered a forum to explore the dynamics involved. Whenever there is a major event involving someone famous or someone charismatic dominating public awareness, you can expect an upsurge in this type of dream.

Getting to meet your hero or heroine is usually an expression of a wishfulfillment dream. Typically, the celebrity appears as a friend and gives helpful advice. The famous person may be living or from the past, but in your dream you regard them as your best friend. They may even visit you in your home in recognition of the special bond between you.

If you dream of meeting a famous person, ask yourself if you would like more recognition for your star qualities in your waking life.

If this doesn’t apply, ask yourself what the famous person means to you. What psychological characteristics and traits does this person symbolize to you?

Famous people in our dreams are telling us to ‘Go for it!’ by integrating the positive qualities we admire in them into our own personalities. Reflect upon what this person symbolizes for you. The primary qualities you admire may not necessarily be fame, beauty or money. You may place greater value on psychological aspects such as their drive or even recovery from an addiction or tragedy. Get in touch with these aspects of yourself and work to bring them into focus and manifestation. In some cases dreams of meeting famous people don’t highlight feelings of inferiority in waking life they can empower you and add real value. For example, to dream of meeting, talking or even helping a person such as the late Mother Teresa might plant the kernel of an idea into your mind that you might find great satisfaction in voluntary work of charitable donation.

If you dream of meeting the prime minister or president or running for high office, the dream’s interpretation depends on how you rate the value of politicians in society.

If you dream of meeting a famous writer, such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens or J. K. Rowling, perhaps you have always longed to write a book or perhaps you want to express yourself better in waking life so your opinions can influence or stimulate other people.

If you dream of being a great composer such as Mozart or Beethoven, do you yearn for passion and creativity in your waking life? Mozart represents the tragic image of a great artist cut down in their prime. Mozart also represents effortless beauty achieved through dedication and hard work. Ludwig von Beethoven was a musician of extraordinary talent and his heroic ability to challenge convention and create timeless beauty out of adversity makes his story extraordinary.

If you dream of meeting a great artist, such as Vincent Van Gogh or Leonardo da Vinci, perhaps you have an artistic talent you need to nurture or simply feel that your life should be more creative. Dreams that feature Leonardo da Vinci may evoke in you a desire to share the secrets of his genius. Perhaps you yearn to understand life’s mysteries? If Picasso appears in your dreams, perhaps in conjunction with his famous cubist paintings in which he has broken down a face or a body into its various facets, the dream image may express a need to understand all aspects of your life, observe them separately and then put them together to make sense of them all. To dream of Picasso suggests the importance of observing life’s complexity even if you cannot understand it.

Whatever famous or influential person you meet, or become, your dreams are all ones of aspiration and striving to achieve your ideals. See also PEOPLE; ROLES.... The Element Encyclopedia

Name Of Person, Place

Our name represents our sense of self, our essential T.

If name is altered: suggests a sense of change in the way we see ourself. Other people’s names: our feelings for that person; the quality we feel in regard to someone else with the same name, or wordplay or associations with the name.

A woman dreamt a friend asks her ‘Do you know where Chris is?*; she replied he was on the back seat. On waking she realises she is being asked ‘Where’s the crisis?’ Two weeks later she had a kidney infection—in the back seat. Names also suggest qualities, as in Peter, the rock; or one’s friend Pat may be pleasure loving, so we use the name or person to represent that quality. See wordplay, puns.

Place names: these can represent our feelings about the place, or be similar to personal names in their suggestion of something. Example: ‘On the other side of the road was a window with my wife’s ring and watch and other trinkets. I went to pick them up but a stranger put his hand over them. I then crossed the road to get a bus to Andover’ (Arthur P). Arthur’s dream wants to make sure he gets the message by saying hand-over and Andover.

Idioms: call someone names; clear someone’s name; have a bad name; not a thing to one’s name; in name alone; in the name of; make a name for oneself; name dropper, one’s middle name, name is mud; somebody who shall be nameless; or my name’s not . . .; worthy of the name; name in vain; lend one’s name to; name the day. ... Problems With Clothing

Clothing that is incongruous to the situation might be a comment on your view of your position in society. Have you found your proper place? Are you comfortable with it? Inadequate, untidy or inappropriate clothing that makes you feel uncomfortable or embarrassed indicates that you feel uncomfortable or ill prepared to fit in with people’s expectations. Are you deliberately not conforming to what is expected of you, or are you trying too hard to adopt a certain role?

Clothing that is too tight, too small or dating back to childhood suggests that something about your current attitude or approach is holding you back. It may also suggest that you are aiming for more than you can achieve in the present circumstances. For Freudians, tight clothing may indicate a preoccupation with the breasts and buttocks whose shape they reveal. The dreamer wearing loose clothing may be attempting to conceal their true self, but it may also represent a yearning to be free of inhibitions.

If you are wearing formal clothes when everyone else is dressed casually, perhaps you have ideas above your station; alternatively, the dream may be a warning against snobbery. On the other hand, being sloppily dressed in a formal setting may be suggesting that your behavior is damaging your prospects. It is also common to dream about being unable to find a suitable outfit or searching frantically for appropriate clothes; such dreams reflect anxiety about being adequately prepared to meet the obligations and demands placed upon you.

Dreamers dressed in shabby clothes, rags or clothes that have rips and tears may be projecting an image of inferiority or low self- esteem, and the dream may be a warning to build their confidence. A dream of a jumper, cardigan or other woolen garment unraveling may indicate a growing sense of disillusionment with some aspect of your waking life. The unraveling may be a sign that it is time to look to a new direction for inspiration.

If you are aware in your dream of a problem with your clothing, this is a positive sign as it suggests that you are already aware of tensions that are affecting you in waking life.

If you are unaware that you are dressed inappropriately and only notice this on waking, your unconscious is pointing to the source of feelings you have not yet understood. Finally, if you dream that you are wearing clothes remarkably different from your normal wardrobe, the implication is that you are ill at ease with your self-image. The color, style and texture of your clothes may be able to tell you which area of your life needs to be remolded.... The Element Encyclopedia

Public Speaking

This is a dream about communication on a grand scale, the pressure to get your word out into the world in a bigger way. Speaking in public is challenging for most people. For some, that challenge is so intense that even the idea of it can bring on a terrorizing attack of anxiety. Since there is a literal connotation with this symbol to the act of speaking, a dream that involves this activity will naturally point to an area in your life where your communication is being put on the spot.

A person speaking in public is usually a figure of authority on some level. In this way, a dream that includes this as an image is probably expressing some area of your life where you are in your authority or where your authority is being put to the test. This is especially so if you were the one doing the speaking.

If you were in the audience and someone else was talking, use that person as a character aspect of yourself to figure out what part of your personality has something to say. It could be that your desire for power and authority in your life is speaking to you through your unconscious in your dream.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

The color purple in a dream represents a brilliant and a skillful housemaid. Ifone sees himself lifting something of purple color in a dream, it means that he will hire or kiss a housemaid. Purple in a dream is also interpreted to mean a beautiful woman. In general, the sweet aroma of a purple plant among other fragrant plants represent a woman who has little care for stability, or it may represent a short lived child, or it could mean health problems.

Purple

Purple is usually the color of royalty, high rank, or dignity.

It is a strong color that can not be ignored. Likewise, most people have a strong opinion of purple: they really like it, or vehemently dislike it.

To some people, purple has spiritual connotations.

The Catholic Church uses it at funerals and around Easter time. It represents spiritual and personal transformation. Purple could also represent higher consciousness and spiritual protection.

A version of purple is also the color of the crown Chakra. When interpreting this color consider all of the details in the dream and try to make connections between the above mentioned-ideas and your current issues. See also: Colors... The Bedside Dream Dictionary

Purple

Purple is traditionally associated with royalty and the legal profession. In dreams, therefore, purple is indicative of loyalty, authority and justice. And because purple shades tinge the sky just before dawn and nightfall—times that were once thought to be imbued with mysterious and otherworldly powers—violet, indigo and any shade of purple are thought to possess profoundly spiritual or religious qualities. Whenever they appear in a dream, they may be seen as indicating compassion, deep intuitive wisdom and, by implication, inner peace.

If anyone you know was wearing purple in your dream, could this have reflected your admiration and respect for their spiritual or regal qualities? Or did these clothes irritate you because of that person’s self aggrandizement, or because you feel subservient to some authority figure or institution in your life? On the other hand, could the dream have been suggesting that you, or someone you know, is being a ‘shrinking violet’, i.e. shy and modest?

Purple everyday objects in dreams could also indicate the need for more openness and honesty in your dealings with others. Darker shades of violet may suggest misunderstandings or obstacles that need to be overcome. Violet is also a spiritual color, and brighter shades of violet in a dream are associated with inspiration and stimulation.

If violet features in your dream, have you been feeling as if you cannot relate to anyone? Could your dream possibly be trying to give you added inspiration with regard to a new project? Sackcloth

1- In its oldest form, sackcloth represented humiliation. People were dressed in sackcloth to signify- that they were less than dust. Hence the saying ‘sackcloth and ashes’. Nowadays in dreams it is much more likely to represent our own sense of humiliation, that we have humiliated ourselves in an action which we have taken.

2- Sackcloth also indicates repentance. We may feel that we have humiliated ourselves, but equally we may wish to show the world that we have repented of an action or deed.

The symbol of sackcloth comes up in a dream to indicate that we need to make an outward show of such repentance.

3- The act of mourning in olden times often indicated some public show, and so sackcloth was taken as the substance to show the spiritual poverty of the people concerned that thev had lost some- thing very valuable. In dreams this symbolism can also come across.... Ten Thousand Dream Dictionary

Speaking

(Hearing; Language; Listening; Talking; Words) Speaking different languages in a dream means richness.

The words of a deceased person in a dream are always true.

The same goes for birds speaking in a dream and their speech denotes glad tidings, prosperity, knowledge and understanding.

If an animal talks with someone in his dream or tells him “I saw a dream... “ then if the animal refrains from relating such a dream, it means a fight, a battle, losses, or an argument.

If a dog, a panther, or a falcon speaks to someone and tells him a dream in a dream, it means glad tidings, great earnings, benefits and joy. In general, birds talking to humans in a dream mean benefits and rising in rank.

If a snake speaks gently with someone in a dream, it means that he will receive benefits from an enemy.

If a beast talks to someone in a dream, it means his death. Ifone’s head or nose talk to him in a dream, it means that whoever these two members represent in one’s life (See Body’) will suffer from an adversity.

If a tree speaks to someone in his dream, it means benefiting from that line of thinking.

A talking tree in a dream means a fight, or the end of one’s exile.

The speech of a tree in a dream also could mean exaltation. Whatever a baby says in a dream is true. It also could mean falling into sin.

If a godly and a spiritual person sees a baby talking to him in a dream, it means that he will witness wonders or a miracle, or become a witness to an unbelievable agreement.

The speech of inanimate objects in a dream always means good, provides a lesson or gives advice. Animal talk in a dream also represents punishment and suffering.

The talk ofone’s limbs in a dream means trouble from one’s relatives, or it could mean committing a sin.

The speech of moving shadows in a dream means evokingjinn or evil spirits. Being possessed by such spirits and speaking on their behalf in a dream signifies temptation, trouble, corruption and evil. Any words that agree with God’s revelations in a dream must be hearkened to and complied with.

The opposite is also true. Ifa limb talks to someone in his dream, it denotes advice one will receive from a relative. Animal talk in a dream denotes leaning toward friendships and finding peace in the company of pious people, or it could mean working to earn one’s livelihood.

If a wall speaks to someone in a dream, it means a warning of separation, or it could mean renouncing the city and seeking to live in the wilderness, near uninhabited ruins, or near a graveyard. Hearing a voice commanding one to do something in a dream means glad tidings. Hearing God Almighty on the Day of Judgement in a dream means rising in station, performing good deeds and nearness to one’s Lord. Listening to the Holy Words of God Almighty in a dream also denotes the spread ofjustice and righteousness, and such a dream could represent a ruler who cares for his subjects.

If a godly and a pious person sees that in a dream, it means that he will renounce the world and seek the comfort and the blessings ofthe hereafter.

Speaking

If someone is speaking to you, make sure you write down what he or she is saying immediately upon awakening. Even if what’s being said is cryptic, or seems to make no sense, it is a message from your Higher Self and needs to be heeded.

If the message is in fact rather mysterious, look to other symbols in the dream to see what it actually means.

If the speaker is male, then the message from your Higher Self is being filtered through your intellect, and if female, through your supportive mind (emotions and intuition).

If someone is speaking to you and yet you don’t hear what he or she is saying, then there is some sort of situation in your life that you don’t understand, and which you need to understand. Again, for the actual message, look to other symbols in the dream.

If you are the one doing the speaking, this is a dream of contrary. Again, it’s a message from your Higher Self that you need to understand.

If you are giving the message to others, the message is designed not only for you, but for those close to you as well. See

Speaking

Speaking in dreams reflects the need to communicate.

If what you say does not make any sense, it means that you are trying to attract others’ attention, which is evidence of an emotional dissatisfaction. On the contrary, speaking with logic and common sense is a way of organizing thoughts. To dream that you communicate in a foreign language that you don’t know could suggest a need to analyze your projects from different points of view. Finally, if you don’t understand the words you hear, the dream is manifesting your fear of rumors. (See MOUTH, YELLING, and TONGUE)

To talk to animals in dreams is an omen of suffering; with other people, of risk and danger; with superiors, of happiness; with enemies, of health. To speak to your mother is a good omen.

Swearing / Shouting

Swearing or using bad language in your dream suggests hidden anger or fear. Both Jung and Fritz Perls believed that each dream character and object is an aspect of yourself. They believed our character is multifaceted and strives towards wholeness, so if your dream contained foul language, you might consider that the raunchy vocalizations are trying to get your attention. Maybe you are too timid in waking life and need to listen more to the parts of yourself that are forceful, pushy or lewd? If you find that someone is shouting at you in your dream, this may be a warning, urging you to slow down and think things through; it may also, however, be a greeting or applause for your achievements.

If you hear cheering in your dreams, this often indicates happy or triumphant feelings, although it could also be wish-fulfillment.... The Element Encyclopedia

The Persona

In your dreams are you wearing a disguise or mask? Are you a regal persona or did you become a superhero? Are you using cosmetics or wearing a wig? Are you worried about your appearance in some way? Are you naked? Are your clothes torn and ragged? If so, this kind of dream concerns your persona or personas, as we all have more than one.

The persona represents your public image, the part of yourself that is presented externally by what you say, wear and look like. The word is obviously related to the words ‘person’ and ‘personality’, and comes from the Latin word for mask. So the persona is the mask you put on before you show yourself to the outside world.

Your persona’s wardrobe of masks comprises the various faces you use to present yourself to different audiences in waking life—for example, your family, friends, colleagues and strangers. We wear these masks to help us relate better to different groups of people, but these masks are not the real you. Depending on the context of your dream and how you felt, your unconscious may be warning you that one of your personas is in conflict with your true self, or that you need to adopt a different persona to achieve your goals.

The persona is rarely personified in a dream. It is usually a dream theme, rather than a dream figure: for example, the persona can be said to be present in a dream in which your clothes are stained, or you are naked or inappropriately dressed. At its best, the persona is just the ‘good impression’ you wish to present as you fill the roles society requires of you. But, of course, it can also be the ‘false impression’ you use to manipulate people’s opinions and behaviors.

And, at its worst, it can be mistaken, even by yourself, for your own true nature; sometimes we believe we really are what we pretend to be!... The Element Encyclopedia

Underclothes / Lingerie / Pajamas / Swimwear

Almost any item of clothing can be regarded as a symbol of sexuality, particularly items that draw attention to what they are covering, such as underwear, bikinis, swimsuits and lingerie. Is the item you are wearing clean or dirty? Depending on which it is, what does that say about your attitude to sex? Generally, underwear in a dream is thought to be a symbol of your hidden attitudes and prejudices.

If you dream of feeling embarrassed about being seen in your underwear, it may suggest an unwillingness to reveal your true feelings, or to have your opinions made public. What color is your dream underwear? Red may reveal hidden passions, yellow a secret fear and so on.

If your underwear is dirty or torn, it may reveal that you are not at ease with yourself right now and feel uncomfortable about your sexuality. Ancient dream oracles suggested that dreams of being in your underwear were an omen of guilty pleasures that would cause much grief. A dream that features nightwear does not necessarily have a sexual connotation; you may simply need more sleep. Pajamas and nightdresses also suggest openness and relaxation.... Young Person / Youth

(1) A much younger person than yourself, but of die same sex, may represent your original and innocent self, uncontaminated with artificial and misleading aims and ambitions.

If so, you should feel love towards this figure: resolve to honour, protect and serve this pure essence of yourself

(2) A young person in a dream may offer you rejuvenation (whether you are middle aged or just depressed) or a creative transformation or re-orientation of your personality and / or your life.

If the person is of the same sex as you, he or she may symbolize your self - that is, your true self, the centre of your psyche.

If of the opposite sex, he or she may represent your anima / animus. (For anima / animus, see Brother / Sister, sections (4)-(6); for self) See also Child.... A Dictionary of Dream Symbols

Your Personal

An alphabetically arranged address book lends itself well to keeping track of the most important symbols in your dreams. First, make a note of the personal meaning and then the general meaning of each symbol. Choose those images that you consider most important, especially the symbols that continually recur.

For each symbol, make note of the title and the date of the dream in which it appeared.

A general interpretation of a symbol listed in this handbook should only be noted if it expands or changes your understanding of your personal dream symbols.... Little Giant Encyclopedia
