Anesthetized, Cold Or Dead Body

The image of an anesthetized body can represent a deadening of feeling, or a loss of passion and creativity in waking life. The same meaning applies to coldness of the body, with the implication of emotional coldness, lack of enthusiasm or distancing oneself from others.

If the coldness is in the lower part of the body, this suggests sexual coldness and again, lack of passion. Coldness in the chest (heart) suggests lack of feelings or feeling cold towards someone.

Cold feet indicate a fear of doing something or indecision. The image of a dead body in a dream depicts feelings and potential to which we have not given expression in daily life.... The Element Encyclopedia

Black Person

Depends which skin colour one has.

If white: one’s natural drives, feelings about coloured people; or if person is known, what you feel about them.

If black or brown: one’s own cultural feelings; same as any person’ dream.

Example: \ was in a cubicle or small toilet with a very black coloured woman. She told me there was something wrong with her vagina. She was undressed. I rubbed her vagina and we both felt enormous passion. I then awoke but couldn’t at first remember the dream. I have refrained from sexual intercourse for some weeks, as I always feel shattered/ tired afterwards. Anyway I woke very wet, yet couldn’t remember any orgasm. I could remember some question of sex as I awoke. Then I remembered the dream and continued it in fantasy. I experienced powerful urges to find a woman to have a non-committed sexual relationship with. But in the end I wanted to share my feelings with my wife, but she seemed deep asleep and unresponsive. When I slept again I dreamt I was in London, had got off one bus, but was not at any destination. I was standing about not making a move to find my direction. Then I began to look’ (Alfred C).

To understand this dream in some depth it is helpful to think of a sexual drive as a flow, like a river. As such it can be blocked, in which case it will seek an alternative route. Sexual energy or flow is not simply a mechanical thing, ihough; it is also deeply feeling in its connection with the most profound sides of human life such as parenthood and the canng and providing for young. In the history of white people a great deal of sexual frustration has arisen out of the ideas of sin and guilt in their religion.

A view arose for the white race that the black races had an easier and less frustrating relationship with the natural —which includes not only sexuality but the body as a whole, and nature also. So when Alfred dreams of the black woman, he is meeting what is natural and flowing in himself, but which he has blocked by his will because he felt shattered after sex.

The pan about the bus shows him trying to find a direction in which his sexual feelings could move satisfyingly in connection with other people.

Unfonunately, as Jung points out in Man and His Symbols, people in modern society, whether black, yellow, brown or white, have lost their sense of nature and the cosmos as being anything other than processes without consciousness or living feeling. Jung says. No river contains a spirit, no tree is the life principle of a man. no snake the embodiment of wisdom. No voice now speaks to man from stones, plants, and animals, nor does he speak to them believing they can hear.’ The importance of such dreams as Arthur’s is that it shows the passionate relationship between our personality and the pnmitive and natural.

A black person, born and bred in a modern setting, would most likely dream of a black bushman to depict their own natural drives. See identity and dreams; Africa; sex in dreams. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Breast, Buttock And Genital Injuries

Dreams about breasts are likely to be sexual. Swollen breasts may be connected with the desire to have children, although you need to consider who or what the baby you’d like to have represents. A dream of being kicked or hit on the buttocks is a clear symbol of some kind of disapproval in waking life—perhaps self-disapproval. Dreams in which you are beaten or whipped may have a straightforward sexual meaning, but they could also refer to an overambitious friend or colleague.

If you are the person doing the beating, is the dream referring to your ambition? If a man dreams of injury to his genitals, it may be highlighting his fear of impotence; for a woman, such dreams may highlight her anxiety about reproduction or sexuality. A dream of castration can be terrifying for a man as it alludes to his whole sense of power and virility.... The Element Encyclopedia

Crystal

(1) A crystal may be a symbol of the self (for self). Dr Marie-Louise von Franz writes in Man and His Symbols: The mathematically precise arrangement of a crystal evokes in us the intuitive feeling that even in so-called “dead” matter there is a spiritual ordering principle at work. Thus the crystal often symbolically stands for the union of extreme opposites - of matter and spirit.’ The self, too (which Christians have called the image of God in the human being), is a union of opposites - conscious and unconscious, masculine and feminine, and so on.

Crystal

In dreams, the appearance of a crystal suggests clarity or breaking through to higher levels of consciousness. It may also suggest purity or something that is clearly understood as in ‘crystal clear’. Crystals are also associated with healing properties, so in dreams they may be symbolic of something that has enormous healing capabilities.

If you were looking into a crystal ball in your dream, what you see is most likely to be wish-fulfillment or a reflection of your hidden fears. To dream of coral has a significant meaning in dreams, since coral comes from the depths of the sea; it may therefore relate to your deepest hopes and fears

A crystal is an earth compound—a mineral or gemstone. Both ancient cultures and modern science have utilized the mysterious qualities of crystals, which have the ability to receive and transmit energy.

Crystals

(see by type, Gems, Jrweliy, Stones) Clear crystals: purity, refinement, and accuracy.

A single crystal: The core of self, our identity and existence. Look at how the crystal appears for more interpretive value. Is it clear, multifaceted, cloudy?

Clear vision, discernment, or foresight. Smooth crystal surfaces were used for scrying throughout history, in numerous cultures including that of Medieval Europe

and Victorian America. Watch and see if any symbols or images form in the sphere, and use those as a starting point for interpretation (see Divination).

As with gems, each crystal has different interpretive value and represents various omens. Agate, for example, portends positive business ventures, while amethyst reveals contentment with your work. Conversely, dreaming of losing an amethyst signals the loss of love or self-control. Here is a brief list of other common crystals and their interpretations. Note that many meanings correlate to the crystal’s color:

Beryl: harmonious relationships Lapis: psychic awareness

Bloodstone: wish fulfillment Lodestone: enticement Camelian: luck and safety Malachite: peaceful rest Garnet: faithfulness Onyx: discord Hematite: charm and grace Opal: change, bad luck Jet: sadness and mourning Quartz: energy, strength

What happens to the crystal in the dream will alter the interpretation.

To illustrate, having a bloodstone shatter probably indicates that you feel as if your hopes have been dashed, whereas receiving the gift of a lapis might indicate an openness to develop your latent psychic abilities.... The Language of Dreams

Crystals, Gemstones And Rocks

Many dream analysts believe that when a specific stone, jewel, mineral, metal or rock is highlighted in your dream, it represents the self or the core, unique part of yourself that is charged with personal significance.

According to Freud, rocks and stones are obvious phallic symbols on account of their hardness. The appearance of rocks, stones and metals in dreams for Jungians, however, has a different interpretation inspired by Jung’s interest in alchemy. Alchemy is the ancient art of transmuting base metals into gold but it is not just about this transformation. It can also be viewed as a system of self- initiation. Jung was amazed to find that the images and operations he encountered in old alchemy texts related strongly to his theories of psychoanalysis and the unconscious. He saw in alchemy a metaphor for the process of individuation or personal transformation, and the morphing and mutating imagery of that process which emerges from the stream of consciousness. For Jungians, therefore, the appearance of rocks, stones, metals and jewels in dreams are potent and powerful symbols of a person’s basic nature, heart and soul, and of their potential for personal transformation. Dead

To dream of the dead, is usually a dream of warning.

If you see and talk with your father, some unlucky transaction is about to be made by you. Be careful how you enter into contracts, enemies are around you. Men and women are warned to look to their reputations after this dream.

To see your mother, warns you to control your inclination to cultivate morbidness and ill will towards your fellow creatures.

A brother, or other relatives or friends, denotes that you may be called on for charity or aid within a short time.

To dream of seeing the dead, living and happy, signifies you are letting wrong influences into your life, which will bring material loss if not corrected by the assumption of your own will force.

To dream that you are conversing with a dead relative, and that relative endeavors to extract a promise from you, warns you of coming distress, unless you follow the advice given you. Disastrous consequences could often be averted if minds could grasp the inner workings and sight of the higher or spiritual self.

The voice of relatives is only that higher self taking form to approach more distinctly the mind that lives near the material plane. There is so little congeniality between common or material natures that persons should depend upon their own subjectivity for true contentment and pleasure. Paracelsus says on this subject: ``It may happen that the soul of persons who have died perhaps fifty years ago may appear to us in a dream, and if it speaks to us we should pay special attention to what it says, for such a vision is not an illusion or delusion, and it is possible that a man is as much able to use his reason during the sleep of his body as when the latter is awake; and if in such a case such a soul appears to him and he asks questions, he will then hear that which is true. Through these solicitous souls we may obtain a great deal of knowledge to good or to evil things if we ask them to reveal them to us. Many persons have had such prayers granted to them. Some people that were sick have been informed during their sleep what remedies they should use, and after using the remedies, they became cured, and such things have happened not only to Christians, but also to Jews, Persians, and heathens, to good and to bad persons.’’ The writer does not hold that such knowledge is obtained from external or excarnate spirits, but rather through the personal _Spirit Glimpses_ that is in man.--AUTHOR. ... Dead

If you dreamed that you were dead, this is actually a positive omen. It symbolizes renewal and letting go of an old stage of life. This is also a common dream when you are getting over an illness, and are getting better. However, if you dreamed of dying slowly, you need to drastically change your routine and reenergize your life.

To dream that someone you care about is dead, suggests that you are lacking a certain quality that the loved one represents. Ask yourself what makes this person special or what do you like about them.

It is that very quality that you are lacking in your own relationship or circumstances.

To see dead people in your dream who you do not know in real life, forewarns that you are being influenced by negative people and are hanging around the wrong crowd. This dream may also be a way for you to resolve your feelings with those who have passed on. However, if you spoke with someone who is dead, you may soon hear very good news.

To dream of someone dead coming to life again suggests that you miss them and are trying to relive your old experiences you had with them. Also look up “Zombie”... My Dream Interpretation

My Dream Interpretation

Dead

(Person / Animal) / Death

(1) Does the dream contain a dead person you actually knew? If so, the dream may mean you should take notice of what he or she said or did, or of what happened to him or her. The dead person is ‘coming back1, not to haunt but to advise and help you.

There’s really nothing ‘spooky1 about meeting dead people in dreams. Such encounters may help you to fulfil a long-desired deep relationship, or to put something right. For example, you may learn to forgive the person and as a consequence get peace and healing for yourself.

(2) If a deceased partner or parent appears in dreams, (1) above may apply. Bear in mind also that the dead do live on - inside us; and that it is important to realize when this is a healthy and life-enhancing thing and when it is purely negative, stunting our own personal development.

If it is the latter, resolve to have it out with the person the next time he or she appears in a dream.

(3) If the dead person in the dream is actually a living person - and especially if that person is your partner or parent or sibling - the dream may be expressing unconscious resentment towards that person, or a desire to be independent. Feelings towards someone close are often ambivalent: love or respect mixed with fear or hatred or resentment or jealousy.

The usual conscious response to such a dream will be anxiety, and you may even feel anxiety in the dream itself. However, Freud was convinced that in such cases anxiety was a cloak for unconscious - because repressed - hostility’. (On the Oedipus complex) See also Murder.

(4) The dead person may be you (and could stand for you even if in the dream he is distinct from the dream ego). In that case, consider the following possibilities:

(a) What is being expressed in the dream may be your own anxiety’ about dying. Death is inevitable, and facing up to that fact may bring great rewards: self-acceptance; new values; a broadening of one’s personality’, compensating for past omissions or lopsidedness and utilizing hitherto neglected personal resources. This would be specially applicable if vou were in the second half of life.

(b) The message may be that y’our old self needs to be left behind. This mav mean that you must stop carrying around with yrou the crippling burden of vour past (irrational guilt-feelings and martyrdom complex, or any other negative self-programming); and, instead, you must open yourself to what the present moment is offering. Alternatively, the ‘old self5 may be old attachments, habits, ambitions, values, goals; in which case the dream is telling you that the only way forward for you lies through giving these up and looking deeper within yourself for better values, etc. (where ‘better5 means more in tune with your real self).

(Primitive rites of passage, which mark transitional stages in a person’s life - birth, initiation into adulthood, marriage, death - all contain death-and-rebirth symbolism and express a recognition that the dissolving - ‘death5 - of past attitudes is a necessary prelude to the development of new attitudes more appropriate to one’s new stage in life. The symbolic death of the initiate in these rites may also be seen as a descent of the conscious ego into the unconscious: it is the unconscious that provides the means for new growth - ‘rebirth5. See also Sacrifice.)

(c) It is just possible that, if your own death features repeatedly in dreams, it is an expression of an unconscious wish for death. Freud speculated in Beyond the Pleasure Principle that there might be, in everyone, just two contending basic drives: one towards life and love and pleasure (‘Eros’), the other towards death (Thanatos5). This is highly controversial, but it is indisputable that many people display a strong masochistic tendency.

Are you compelled to repeat a painful experience? Do you tend to interpret what other people say as a criticism of yourself? If so, you may be suffering from repressed guilt-feelings and an unconscious urge to punish yourself - which may sometimes take the form of a fate-neurosis and / or a wish (unconscious) to see yourself dead.

If you feel this applies to you, talk to a friend about it or consult a psychotherapist. See also Suicide.

A wish for death may be a retreat from life’s problems and pains, or a response to (a sense of) failure.

If this applies to you, bear in mind, first, that a very sensitive person may also be burdened with an over-severe conscience (the product, perhaps, of having a stem father or a sin-and- guilt religious upbringing). In that case, see the previous paragraph. Secondly, what makes a thing a problem is usually one’s attitude towards it. For example, suppose you have been made redundant.

If your reaction is to see this as a punishment, see the previous paragraph.

If you see it as failure, try to change your attitude or perspective by asking what creative purpose may be being served bv your redundancy: perhaps, for instance, the demolishing of an inadequate or false self- image in order to make way for the construction of one that corresponds more closely to your individual ground-plan or ‘destiny’.

(5) If the gender of the dead person is stressed, the meaning may be that your masculinitv / femininity or your animus / anima needs reviving.

(6) A dead animal in a dream almost certainly refers to some part of you - an instinctive force, perhaps - and the dream will be telling you either that this part of you (e.g. guilt-feelings or inferiority complex) ought to die, because its effects are wholly negative; or that it is a valuable but repressed part of yourself that you must now bring to life, to rectify an imbalance in vour personality.... Dead / Death

Dreams about the dead or about death are not usually omens of literal death, although they may indicate anxiety about death. Violent death may represent anger and aggression, although much depends on the more general tone or “atmosphere” of the dream. When the dreamer dies but is not particularly unhappy or distraught in the dream, death often symbolizes the letting go (or “death”) of an old part of the self or the destruction of a prior stage of life.

This kind of dream death is, in other words, a symbol of self-transformation.

A lifeless corpse, on the other hand, may represent a feeling of devitalization—a kind of death in life that comes from adhering to a lifeless routine. (See also Burial, Coffin, Crypt, Grave, Hearse).... Dream Symbols in The Dream Encyclopedia

Dead End

Dreaming of a dead end that is marked by a wall is showing that it may be time to re-evaluate a situation in your waking life.

A dead end can indicate that a current situation is not working out quite as you may have expected and a feeling of disappointment is likely if you are to continue.

To dream of a dead end that is marked by trees or an open space implies that there is another way to go that will produce a fruitful outcome.... Dream Symbols and Analysis

Dead End

If you come to a dead end in your dream, your unconscious is telling you there is no way of escaping your fears, even though you feel that it is vital for you to flee. The same interpretation applies a number of similar dreams; whether you are caught in quicksand, forced to carry an impossibly heavy weight, suddenly become paralyzed, find yourself rooted to the spot and powerless to do anything, or find that your feet have become heavy or stuck in the mud when trying to flee someone or something.

If you have such disturbing dreams it is possible that you are facing some kind of emotional crisis in your life that requires a drastic decision; for example, whether you should leave your partner or not.

If you are being chased, identifying who or what was chasing you or why you need to escape may help you decide what course of action to take in real life.

If you don’t know who the person chasing you is, this may stand for certain unpalatable aspects of your personality which have been repressed but which are now forcing you to deal with them. Alternatively, your unconscious may be reflecting on your feelings of powerlessness in regard to a difficult situation in your waking life. Dead Husband Or Wife

Many dreams of dead people come from women who have lost their husband.

It is common to have disturbing dreams for some period afterwards; or not be able to dream about the husband (or wife) at all; or to see the partner in the distance but not get near. In accepting the death, meeting any feelings of loss, grief, anger and continuing love, the dream may become as below.

The example both shows the resolution of the loss, but also the paradox felt at realising the meeting was an inner reality. Example: ‘A couple of months ago as I was waking I felt my husband’s arm across me and most realistically experienced my hand wrapping around his arm and turning towards him (which I had done so often in his lifetime) and saying “1 thought you had died. Thank God you have not.” Then I awoke alone and terribly shaken’ (Mrs I).

A critic might say this is only a dream in which a lonely woman is replaying memories of her dead husband’s presence for her own comfort—thus her disappointment on being disillusioned. Whatever our opinion, the woman has within her such memories to replay. These are reality.

The inner reality is of what experience was left within her from the relationship. Her challenge is whether she can meet this treasure with its share of pain, and draw out of it the essence which enriches her own being. That is the spiritual life of her husband.

The aliveness’ of her husband in that sense is also social, because many other people share memories of him. What arises in their own lives from such memories is the observable influence of the now dead person.

But the dead also touch us more mysteriously, as in the next example. Example: In a recent news programme on television, a man who survived a Japanese prisoner of war camp in Singapore had been given a photograph of children by a dying soldier he did not know.

The man had asked him to tell his family of his death, but did not give his name.

The photograph was kept for 40 odd years, the man still wanting to complete his promise but not knowing how. One night he dreamt he was told the man’s name. Enquiries soon found the family of the man, who had an identical photograph. See husband under family. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Dead People Dreams

Example: ‘My husband’s mother, no longer alive, came and slid her arms carefully under me and lifted me up. I shouted “Put me down! Put me down! I don’t want to go yet.” She carefully lowered me on to the bed and disappeared’ (EH). Most dreams in which dead people appear are expressive of our attempts to deal with our feelings, guilt or anger in connection with the person who died, or our own feelings about death. In the example the dreamer is feeling fear about being carried off by death.

When someone close to us dies we go through a period of change from relating to them as an external reality, to meeting and accepting them as alive in our memories and inner life. In the next example the man has not only come to terms with his mother’s and his own death, but also found this inner reality. Example: A dark grey sugar loaf form materialised. This pillar lightened in shade as I watched. It didn’t move. I began to think it was Mrs Molten who died in 1956.

The feeling grew stronger but still the colour lightened. Then it bent over and kissed my head. In that instant I knew it was my mother.

An ecstatic joy and happiness such as I have never known on earth suffused me. That happiness remained constantly in mind for the next few days’ (Mr M). ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Dead Person / Corpse

To dream of a dead person or corpse usually represents some aspect of your life that has died. It can refer to the death of feelings in connection with someone, to the depression that follows big changes in your life or to the feeling that you are going nowhere. Alternatively, the dead person may be a part of yourself that you want to leave behind or it could be a warning that you are taking too much from life and not putting enough back.

If you dreamed of the death of a loved one who is seriously ill or advanced in years, your unconscious may have been preparing you for their future departure from your life. By exposing you in the dream to emotions that will overwhelm you, your shock may be lessened and thus easier to bear.

Dreams such as this one may also be urging you to tell loved ones how much they mean to you before it is too late. If, in your dream, you felt no emotion at all when a loved one died, the interpretation is likely to be different, as it represents something in your life that is coming to an end or that should end. An alternative explanation is that you fear the death of your relationship, particularly if your partner has withdrawn emotionally from you in the waking world. A dream in which you became a widow or widower or suffer bereavement can indicate feelings of loneliness in waking life.

If you are in a relationship, such a dream may suggest that there is a lack of understanding or a communication breakdown between you and your partner. For dreams of a dead person see GHOSTS.... The Element Encyclopedia

Dreaming With Crystals

Crystal enthusiasts believe that dreaming with crystals can not only enhance healing and transformation but can also enhance your dream state in many ways, depending on the type of crystal and how it is used. The results can be enlightening, enriching and therapeutic.

Below is a list of some of the crystals you might use. It is important to stress, however, that the following guidelines are based on conjecture and anecdotal experience only:

Love and romance

Rose quartz and jade are thought to be good crystals or stones for dreams in which love is the issue at hand. Place either crystal (or both) under your pillow. The energies of these stones are thought to encourage dreams that are loving and filled with positive vibrations.

Money and prosperity

Citrine is a powerful, healing quartz that is thought to be an excellent crystal for bringing about wealth in body, mind and spirit. Known as the merchant stone, it is believed to attract abundance in ways that fortify balance, whether that balance is sought in the home, the bank account, the body, mind or spirit.

Problem solving

Clear quartz is considered the best crystal for issues you need to work through while sleeping. Before you go to sleep, hold the quartz in your hand and spend a while meditating the issue on your mind, with the express request to solve your issue via your dreams. Then place the quartz under your pillow. You may find that when you awake you will be more focused, grounded and that the issue that was previously bothering you is now crystal clear.

Stress release and insomnia

Amethyst is thought to be an excellent stone for relieving you of the stress of the day. A relaxing crystal, it also helps with insomnia and headaches. Take a glove and place it over your left ‘receiving’ hand before retiring to bed. Slip a small amethyst crystal into the glove to increase your chances of good dream recall, a good night’s rest and stress release.... The Element Encyclopedia

Elderly Person

An unknown elderly person in a dream represents one’s good luck, happiness and one’s assiduity and diligence.

If the unknown elderly person looks strong in the dream, he represents one’s strength. Otherwise, if he looks feeble, then he represents one’s weakness. Whatever physical conditions an elderly person is seen with in the dream, such condition will reflect in one’s own state.

If an elderly person comes toward the person seeing the dream, it means that someone will help him attain a praiseworthy rank. Ifone follows an elderly person in a dream, it means that he follows a good path.

If one sees an elderly person and displeases him in the dream, it means that he will displease a close friend or reject his advice. Ifhe pleases him in the dream, it means that he will consent with a close good friend and they will walk together on the path to reap material as well as spiritual benefits. Ifone sees a gathering of friendly people but could not determine whether they are young or elderly in a dream, it means that he will discover new avenues in his life and he will draw material and spiritual benefits from them.

If he sees a gathering of young people he does not recognize in the dream, it means that he will associate himself with rich people.

If he sees a gathering of elderly people he does not recognize in the dream, it means that he will associate himself with good friends.

If a woman sees an elderly person she could not recognize in the dream, he represents the world.

If a young man sees himself turned into an elderly person in a dream, it means that he will acquire knowledge and wisdom. Listening to a good looking elderly person in a dream means receiving honor and rank.

If an elderly person sees himself turned young in a dream, it represents his strength, wealth, good living and a healthy life, or it could mean material or religious losses, or it could mean his death. Ifan elderly person sees himselfbeingborn again in a dream, it means his death.

If he is ill, it could represent his attachment to the world, and if he is poor, it could denote his earning.

If an elderly person sees himself as a youth in a dream, it could also mean committing a childish act or an unwise act.

A wise elderly person in a dream represents honor, rank, dignity, wealth, blessings and longevity. On the other hand, seeing an elderly person in a dream could represents failure, weaknesses, defeat, disablement or inertness.

Fairy Tales

Fairy tales are full of rich psychological symbolism that expresses our innermost fears and dreams. Beginning with the fathers of the field, Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, numerous psychoanalysts have turned to fairy tales in an effort to understand the human mind. Just as many fairy tales hinge upon a revelation of the truth about those who have been somehow disguised, so too fairy tales cut to the essence of adult identity. Freud suspected that dreams and fairy tales stemmed from the same place, and the relaxation of inhibition that occurs in the dream state is also true of many storytellers. So fairy tales might prove, as with dreams, to be windows opening into the unconscious. (Indeed, many fairy tales include dream-states as important plot points.) For Freud, fairy tales are rife with wish-fulfillment fantasies and complicated sexual undercurrents.

As far as Jung was concerned, the ‘collective unconscious’ that lies at the core of his work, and which he believed is shared by all human beings, is revealed through archetypes, forms and symbols found in ample quantity in fairy tales. Jungian therapists study fairy tales to help analyze the dreams of their patients. Jung’s disciples have gone on to interpret fairy tales as lives in miniature, suggesting, for example, that each character within a tale may represent an aspect of human personality.

More recently, perhaps the best-known—and certainly the most widely- quoted—psychologist to incorporate fairy tales into their practice is Bruno Bettelheim, who published Uses of Enchantment: The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales in 1976. Bettelheim argued that fairy tales are an important tool for children learning to navigate reality and survive in a world ruled by adults. The family conflicts and moral education of the protagonists (conveniently often children themselves) could provide models of coping. Others have disputed aspects of this interpretation. The German cultural critic and philosopher Walter Benjamin notes that the morality of fairy tales is rather complicated, with the heroes and heroines often known to lie, cheat, steal and torture villains. But there remains something empowering and psychologically insightful in these stories that, as fairy tale scholar Maria Tatar writes, demonstrate the ‘triumph of small and weak over tall and powerful’.

To sum up: one of the most useful functions of the fairy tale is to use fantasy to help address the problems of growing up. During the course of the fairy tale, the hero or heroine is taken on a journey to greater self-awareness and psychological wholeness. In a child’s life there may be many conflicts and the fairy tale helps the child express the hostility these situations may cause. Many psychologists recommend fairy tales as beneficial to children, believing they help children assimilate problems such as violence, sexuality, growing up and learning to deal with family conflict. In many ways, fantasy dreams share the same functions as fairy tales; not only do they provide a healthy outlet for socially unacceptable behavior, they can also empower the dreamer and teach hidden lessons.... Fairy Tales And Symbolism

The symbolism in fairy tales speaks to adults as well as children, and deals with childlessness, sexual maturation, remarriage, jealousy across the generations, sibling rivalry, incest, murderous rage, inheritance issues and other timeless problems.

If you find yourself transported to the scene of a well-known fairy tale, the following tips may help with the interpretation. First of all, consider what common fairy tale motif your dream scene is depicting. For example, it could be:

Courtship tale
A strong theme in many fairy tales is the idea that love and goodness triumph. In the animal bridegroom tale, the girl protagonist marries some kind of beast, who is transformed by love in the course of the story into a (usually handsome) prince. In your waking life, do you feel you deserve the reward of love and security for your efforts? Do you believe love can conquer all? Or is your dream urging you to reconcile your masculine and feminine attitudes in waking life?

Good and bad choice
Most fairy tales involve a moment when the protagonist is faced with a choice. These include: helpless people or creatures to be kind or beastly to; opportunities to tell the truth or lie, or cheat or be honest; a choice to stand up for your principles or betray the innocent and submit to tyranny.

If someone’s inside and outside are at odds, typically by the end of the tale the two are reconciled (as in the Beast’s transformation in ‘Beauty and the Beast’). Notice the elemental justice of this fairy tale motif and see whether you can relate any of its themes to your waking life.

Magical gift
A mirror that allows one to see one’s heart’s desire (or one’s loved ones); a table that sets itself with food and dishes; a stick that beats one’s enemies; a goose that lays golden eggs; a pouch that replenishes itself with gold. Consider the symbolism of these motifs. To what gift or hidden quality is your dream referring?

Magical Helper
These would include: an old crone, a talking frog, a fairy godmother, a swan to convey one across a river, a bird that carries one in his claws. Also, and not always in a helping role, one might encounter magical creatures such as witches, ogres, fairies, mermaids, unicorns, trolls, gnomes and dragons. Consider the symbolism of any helpers, or non-helpers, that appear in your dream; they represent psychological energy or strength that you either possess or need to find. What qualities do they represent, and how will they help or hinder you?

The ‘Rule of Three’
Many fairy tales, as well as many dreams, seem to obey what might be called the ‘rule of three’. They may contain three characters (’Goldilocks and the Three Bears’, ‘The Three Little Pigs’, The Three Billy Goats Gruff); three wishes; three tasks that a prince (or princess) must do to win his (or her) true love; three times for a request or saying to be repeated (I’ll huff, and I’ll puff…’).

If you find yourself in a story in which three is significant, see NUMBERS.

Trial or test to win one’s love
Going ‘east of the sun and west of the moon’ and bringing back a treasure; learning the answer to a riddle; spinning straw into gold (and guessing Rumpelstiltskin’s name); breaking through the 100- year-old forest to find the sleeping princess. Can you relate such tests to your waking life? What trials and tribulations do you need to overcome?

Remember that these stories have been told and retold for centuries because they have resonated with their hearers and expressed something important to their audiences. So if scenes from a specific fairy tale appear in your dream, consider the symbolism of the fairy tale motif, and see how the story and the lessons it teaches apply to your waking life.

If a specific character appears in your dream out of context from his, her or its fairy tale, for example Cinderella wandering the streets of New York on her own, Sleeping Beauty buying a house or Puss in Boots accompanying you on a train journey, consider what aspect of yourself or your life the character represents. So if you find yourself having lunch with Rapunzel in your dreams, think about the symbolism of her hair, which was cut off to punish the girl for her indiscretion. Is there something you feel guilty about in waking life or should feel guilty about? Or do you feel imprisoned in an ivory tower and long for freedom of expression?

Finally, don’t forget that, above all, fairy tales encourage you to believe in possibilities and the hidden ‘magic’ that can be discovered in the most unexpected places.... The Element Encyclopedia

Genital Organ

Its obvious meaning concerns sexuality. On the other hand, every actual sexual image points to the present situation of the dreamer. Often other energies, like love or fear, power and money express themselves in the form of sexual symbols. Freud makes a very clear distinction between genital sexuality and general sexuality. On one hand, he took a broader view: “First, sexuality is freed from a much too narrow connection to the genitals and seen in a much wider sense as a pleasure-seeking bodily function, which is only secondarily put to the service of procreation. Secondly,” Freud continues in his Self Portrait, “sexual stirrings are all those merely tender and friendly emotions for which our language coined the many-faceted word 4Love.”’ What this means is that, for Freud, sexuality is pleasure-seeking, all-encompassing, and expressed by the whole body, internally and externally. He was of the opinion that sexual urges and the tender feelings of love are connected and that one part is not to be withheld at the expense of the other. In that sense it is a question of “separating sexuality from the genitals,” of sensuality, of saying goodbye to the notion of “always searching for one part only,” when so much more is worth having. At the same time, Freud emphasizes the difference between general, unorganized sexuality and genital sexuality.

It is only in the genital phase that “the full expression” of all drives / urges (and not only part of them) is achieved. See Erection, Intercourse, Sexuality.... Little Giant Encyclopedia

If you dream of your genitals, this most likely represents your feelings and attitudes towards sex, and towards your femininity or masculinity. To see an exceptionally large or small penis suggests doubts and anxieties about your sexual drive and libido. For a man, a penis represents not just sex, but the whole drive of life, and his self-expression and capability in the world. In a woman’s dream, the penis represents desire for a partner as well as a relationship to socalled male characteristics, such as ambition and aggression.

If the penis is bleeding, this suggests emotional hurts that are inhibiting libido and self- expression. Testicles in a dream depict the male sexual drive, so loss of testicles, or small testicles in a man’s dream, could suggest anxiety about sexual performance with a woman. In a woman’s dream, testicles could indicate her feelings about sex with a man or what she is doing to the man in herself.

Dreams of a vagina are more to do with self-image. In a woman’s dream, a vagina represents her receptivity, her nurturing feelings, her desire for a mate and the sense of connection with other women. In a man’s dream, it highlights his need to thrust forward both physically and mentally.

If the vagina is bleeding, this suggests fears about sexuality and femininity. See also SEX.... The Element Encyclopedia

Homesickness / Nostalgia

Dreams from which you wake up with a sense of unhappiness, regret and nostalgia for the past occur for two reasons. The first is to compensate for unhappiness in your present circumstances by reminding you of past happiness and the possibility of enjoying that kind of happiness again. The second is to help you come to face up to painful memories and come to terms with the past.

If you were awash with homesickness in your dream, try to pinpoint exactly what it was that you were missing. The answer may tell you what your unconscious has identified as lacking in your real life. Perhaps it was a sense of belonging, a sense of fun or childhood innocence and spontaneity.... Hospital

Many people reported having dreams about hospitals and surgery. This appears to be a relatively common dream setting. Most of us are in some need of healing.

The healing may be physical, psychological, emotional or spiritual. By paying attention to this dream you may be able to identify the source of your pain, and where and how the healing needs to take place. Think about why you or someone else was in the hospital in the dream. You may ask yourself, “What is going on in the dream? What is the prognosis, and what is the cure?” Answering these questions in light of a situation or issue from your daily life could be very helpful and, at times, enlightening. Therefore, try not to get upset by your dream, but rather pay attention to its message. Superstition based dream interpretations suggest that if you are visiting a patient you will be receiving surprising news (good or bad), but if you are the patient, you may be currently overwhelmed by life and should ask others for help. 1- Depending on our attitude to hospitals, when one appears in a dream it can cither represent a place of safety, or a place where ones very being is threatened and we become vulnerable. Taken as a place of healing, it represents that aspect within ourselves that knows when respite is necessary from cares and troubles when we can allow ourselves to be cared for and nurtured and put back into one piece.

If we find hospitals threatening, it may be that we are conscious of the fact that we have to ‘let go’, to put ourselves at the mercy of others and allow things to happen for us, in order that a situation can be improved.

2- Dreaming of being in a hospital may be mentally creating a transition period between something that has not gone well, and an improved attitude where things can get better. ‘I’o be visiting someone in hospital indicates that we are aware that a part of ourselves is perhaps not well, is ‘dis-cased’ and needs attending to in order to give us clarity.

Hospital

To dream of a hospital can be, to a certain point, alarming, since it manifests the fear of being sick.

If in the dream you visit someone who is sick, you should take special care of your health, since your body is crying for help.

Hospital

You are dreaming of the need for healing and a restoration of health, whether that health is literal or symbolic. Hospitals tend to evoke powerful reactions.

The discomfort that colors most people’s associations tends to overshadow the benevolence connected to them as places of healing.

A common reaction around hospitals is to fear them, adding a touch of irony to our relationship with the healing process. Healing is transformation, and the first step to any major change is the breakdown that precedes the breakthrough. Since the breakdown is the scary part, we avoid it, just as some people avoid hospitals in waking life.

It is easy to forget that in order for surgeons to heal a patient, they must first cut the person’s body open, creating a wound. And since not everyone who checks into a hospital is fortunate enough to check out, these places are indelibly connected to the fear of death and dying. However, remember that death is always followed by rebirth. In this way, being in or near a hospital in a dream is always going to indicate that some healing is either underway or necessary.

If you are the patient, then consider that your sense of self is undergoing a significant shift.

If you are a visitor, then the healing transformation is connected to a character aspect or particular way of being as embodied by the person you are going to see.

If you are playing the part of healer, the dream may be helping you step into that role in some area of life that is undergoing a transformation.

The fear or repulsion that is present in the dream will give you an idea of how much resistance you may be unconsciously engaged in.

If you are experiencing a health issue in life, the image of a hospital may be literal, in which case your dream relationship to the hospital will inform you of any underlying resistance to surrendering to your body and its functioning (or the lack thereof).... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

Hospital

In dreams, hospitals can either mean a place of safety and healing if you have had a positive experience of hospitals, or vulnerability and disease if the experience was negative. Generally though, hospitals are symbols of healing, representing an aspect of yourself that longs to be pampered and cared for, relieved of the burdens of responsibilities in the waking world.

If you find hospitals threatening in your dream, this may suggest that you feel apprehensive about putting control of yourself out of your own hands and into those of others in your waking life.

If you are a hospital patient in your dream, this suggests a period of transition after something has not gone well, or a time of rest when you can learn from the experience and find new ways to get back on track.

If you are visiting someone in hospital, is a part of you diseased, not well or in need of special attention? Either way, if you have a dream that focuses in some way on a hospital, this suggests that you are in need of some tender loving care, both physically and emotionally. Hospital

If a hospital features in your dream, your unconscious may be sending you a message about some part of your life that deserves care, attention or is even in need of healing. The elements in the hospital that support or dismiss your needs reflect things in your life that are affecting your well-being.

If the nurses, doctors and receptionists are rude and dismissive, this may represent your own refusal to acknowledge your needs. Operations and procedures that fail can suggest attempts to solve problems with quick fixes.

If you can think about what would improve your situation in your dream, this may give you some indication of a possible way forward. See also HEALTH AND SICKNESS.

A dream of lying ill in a hospital bed may simply be promoted by fear of getting ill but it could also indicate your desire to hand control of some aspect of your life to someone else. If you are lying in a ward that has endless lines of beds, perhaps you feel abandoned

In some way, / or perhaps you are at a time of turmoil such as divorce, bereavement or job loss.

If you are healthy and dream of getting better, this indicates well-being, but if you are ill and dream that you are ill, it may suggest a delay in recovery. Meeting A Famous Person

Famous people appear in dreamland just as they do in the media. On the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, thousands of people described how they had dreamed of her. During his presidency, Bill Clinton was also an extremely common dream figure in the United States. His vitality and leadership ability seemed to strike a chord with men and women alike. As they sorted through power issues in themselves and others, dreams of the president offered a forum to explore the dynamics involved. Whenever there is a major event involving someone famous or someone charismatic dominating public awareness, you can expect an upsurge in this type of dream.

Getting to meet your hero or heroine is usually an expression of a wishfulfillment dream. Typically, the celebrity appears as a friend and gives helpful advice. The famous person may be living or from the past, but in your dream you regard them as your best friend. They may even visit you in your home in recognition of the special bond between you.

If you dream of meeting a famous person, ask yourself if you would like more recognition for your star qualities in your waking life.

If this doesn’t apply, ask yourself what the famous person means to you. What psychological characteristics and traits does this person symbolize to you?

Famous people in our dreams are telling us to ‘Go for it!’ by integrating the positive qualities we admire in them into our own personalities. Reflect upon what this person symbolizes for you. The primary qualities you admire may not necessarily be fame, beauty or money. You may place greater value on psychological aspects such as their drive or even recovery from an addiction or tragedy. Get in touch with these aspects of yourself and work to bring them into focus and manifestation. In some cases dreams of meeting famous people don’t highlight feelings of inferiority in waking life they can empower you and add real value. For example, to dream of meeting, talking or even helping a person such as the late Mother Teresa might plant the kernel of an idea into your mind that you might find great satisfaction in voluntary work of charitable donation.

If you dream of meeting the prime minister or president or running for high office, the dream’s interpretation depends on how you rate the value of politicians in society.

If you dream of meeting a famous writer, such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens or J. K. Rowling, perhaps you have always longed to write a book or perhaps you want to express yourself better in waking life so your opinions can influence or stimulate other people.

If you dream of being a great composer such as Mozart or Beethoven, do you yearn for passion and creativity in your waking life? Mozart represents the tragic image of a great artist cut down in their prime. Mozart also represents effortless beauty achieved through dedication and hard work. Ludwig von Beethoven was a musician of extraordinary talent and his heroic ability to challenge convention and create timeless beauty out of adversity makes his story extraordinary.

If you dream of meeting a great artist, such as Vincent Van Gogh or Leonardo da Vinci, perhaps you have an artistic talent you need to nurture or simply feel that your life should be more creative. Dreams that feature Leonardo da Vinci may evoke in you a desire to share the secrets of his genius. Perhaps you yearn to understand life’s mysteries? If Picasso appears in your dreams, perhaps in conjunction with his famous cubist paintings in which he has broken down a face or a body into its various facets, the dream image may express a need to understand all aspects of your life, observe them separately and then put them together to make sense of them all. To dream of Picasso suggests the importance of observing life’s complexity even if you cannot understand it.

Whatever famous or influential person you meet, or become, your dreams are all ones of aspiration and striving to achieve your ideals. See also PEOPLE; ROLES.... The Element Encyclopedia

Mental Hospital

(Insane asylum; Hell-fire; Lunatics; Prison) In a dream, a mental hospital or an insane asylum represents a bathhouse, or a sauna which is the dwelling of evil spirits, the place of uncovering one’s private parts, or showing unpleasant conduct in public.

A mental hospital in a dream also represents a training school, caring for children’s education, teaching children to behave themselves, a place of learning, a school, a playground, a place of clamor and noise, using vile words, stealing money, or separation from one’s family and children.

If a deceased person is seen in a mental hospital in a dream, it means that he is dwelling in hell-fire, for a mental hospital sometime uses force with its patients and ties them up, or imprisons them. Ifone sees himself in a mental hospital in a dream, it means that he might go to jail for a crime he committed. Mixing with lunatics and insane people in a dream also means imprisonment and mixing with criminals, or it could mean falling sick, or dyingfrom a terminal illness.

If a poor person sees himself inside a mental hospital in a dream, it means financial success, receiving outside help, comfort and joy in his life.

Metal

In dreams, metal represents strength, material power and force. It can also suggest strength of will, perhaps unbending emotions or a hard or unfeeling nature. Any metal appearing in a dream therefore suggests basic abilities and attributes, but also hardness of feeling or emotional coldness.

Aluminum or aluminum foil signifies a need for reflection or introspection. Perhaps you need a change in perspective. Bronze suggests the blending of different aspects of your life, whilst also portraying recognition for perseverance and the successful completion of your goals. Copper suggests intelligence, an outgoing nature or the need to communicate something important.

Gold is a symbol of what is precious or valued in your life. Finding gold indicates that you are discovering and expressing these characteristics in your life; burying gold means you are hiding something. Associated with the sun and victory, gold may also represent life, completion and renewal. For alchemists, gold represents the spiritual treasure that was gained by transforming the spirit.

If the gold is cheap, this suggests something you value but that does not deserve your respect.

If the gold is tarnished, this suggests something beautiful in you that has been neglected.

When the metal iron appears in a dream, it usually suggests strength and determination but it can also suggest emotional coldness.

If you are using a clothes iron, is there something in your life you are trying to smooth over? In dreams, the appearance of lead suggests a situation in your waking life that is burdening you and leaving you heavy-hearted. Lead as in a lead pencil also has associations with masculinity. Mercury in dreams implies a fluctuating situation or vacillation within yourself over a particular problem. To dream of nickel suggests the need for a new approach to replace an old one. It can also suggest small steps you need to take to help you reach your goal.

Platinum in dreams is a symbol of a life aspect that stimulates multiple opportunities, whilst silver has a double meaning: on a practical level it suggests finance or money, but on a psychological level it represents the qualities of the moon or the need to follow your intuition. Spiritually, silver is said to represent the feminine aspect, whilst gold is the masculine.

If polished silver has the properties of a mirror so your dream may be suggesting that you need to reflect on some waking situation.

Steel in dreams is a symbol of strength and endurance, whereas tin is a symbol of something or someone inferior in your life that is not of the quality it should be; tin may also indicate low self-esteem. Bear in mind, too, that certain metals are also associated with certain planets: Sun-gold; Moon-silver; Mercury- quicksilver; Venus-copper; Mars-iron; Jupiter-tin; Saturn-lead.... Metals

(see Copper, Gold, Iron Ore, Silver) Strength and resiliency.

How is the metal used in the dream? Are you building with it, and if so, what? For example, building a wall out of metal represents a very strong obstacle to intimacy.

As with crystals and gems, each specific metal has different symbolism:

Aluminum: flexibility

• Copper: guidance and control

• Flint: durability and utility

• Iron ore: love, safety, and willpower

• Lead: foundations or delays

• Quicksilver: quick responses

• Steel: rigidity, hard-heartedness

• Tin: improved luck... The Language of Dreams

Name Of Person, Place

Our name represents our sense of self, our essential T.

If name is altered: suggests a sense of change in the way we see ourself. Other people’s names: our feelings for that person; the quality we feel in regard to someone else with the same name, or wordplay or associations with the name.

A woman dreamt a friend asks her ‘Do you know where Chris is?*; she replied he was on the back seat. On waking she realises she is being asked ‘Where’s the crisis?’ Two weeks later she had a kidney infection—in the back seat. Names also suggest qualities, as in Peter, the rock; or one’s friend Pat may be pleasure loving, so we use the name or person to represent that quality. See wordplay, puns.

Place names: these can represent our feelings about the place, or be similar to personal names in their suggestion of something. Example: ‘On the other side of the road was a window with my wife’s ring and watch and other trinkets. I went to pick them up but a stranger put his hand over them. I then crossed the road to get a bus to Andover’ (Arthur P). Arthur’s dream wants to make sure he gets the message by saying hand-over and Andover.

Idioms: call someone names; clear someone’s name; have a bad name; not a thing to one’s name; in name alone; in the name of; make a name for oneself; name dropper, one’s middle name, name is mud; somebody who shall be nameless; or my name’s not . . .; worthy of the name; name in vain; lend one’s name to; name the day. ... Other (things And Persons)

Usually points to too much egotism. Overcoming egotistical notions. Encounters with “others” (either in the form of strangers or the self) are the beginning of building self- awareness and self-knowledge. Pedestal

W hen we become conscious in a dream that something has been placed on a pedestal we have obviously attempted to make that thing special. We have elevated it to a position of power.

Most human beings have a tendency to idolise or worship certain characteristics. Dreams will often show the appropriateness or otherwise of such an action.

Qur’anic Recital

Reading the holy Qur’an or part of it in a dream means rising in station, gaining power, repenting from sins, prosperity, paying one’s debts, witnessing the truth, or delivering a trust to its rightful owner. Reciting the holy Qur’iin with a beautiful voice in a dream means honor, dignity and good fame. Reading the holy Qur’iin and adding one’s own words to it in a dream means wavering from the truth, or betraying one’s promise or covenant.

If in the latter case one does not understand the meaning of what he is saying in the dream, it means that he will give a false testimony in a court of justice, or that he will be involved in something evil the consequences of which cannot be foreseen.

If one sees people listening to his recital of the Qur’an in a dream, it means that he will command a job, and that people will follow his instructions. Hearing, or reading any Qur’anic chapter which is customarily read for a deceased person in a dream, signifies the death of a sick person in that family. Professional Qur’iin readers in a dream represent the leading people of the society.

To hear a professional Qur’iinic recital in a dream means that people in authority will soon gather in the place where the recital is seen in one’s dream.

If one sees himself reading his book of records on the Day of Judgment in a dream, and if he is an unlettered person in wakefulness, it means that he will become rich after having suffered from poverty, and that he will answer all the questions he will be asked on the Day of Reckoning, or that he will be protected by God Almighty from what he fears most. This happens if one’s reading of his own records is positive, but if it reads his sins and pitfalls in the dream, then it denotes distress, trouble, or sufferings.

Talking In Sleep

Most people who have kept a dog have witnessed it bark while it is obviously dreaming. Calling out during a disturbing or active dream is common to humans also. Some people sleep talk very frequently, however, so much so they worry in case they disturb the sleep of others, or say things they regret. In some cases they will even respond to questions. One such person told me that she went to her mother s room and asked her about whether or not to get married.

The dreamer was single, so the subject of the talk may have been bothering her. Perhaps the most prolific and creative of sleep talkers was Edgar Cayce. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Talking In Your Sleep

Talking whilst asleep is a relatively common sleep disorder. The subject matter being talked about tends to be harmless. It may also make no sense at all. At other times, the content may be vulgar or even offensive to a listener. The talking can occur many times and might be quite loud, disrupting the sleep of a bed partner or roommate. Sleeptalking may occur in any stage of NREM or REM sleep and, because of this, some dream experts believe that talking or walking in your sleep could simply be an attempt to act out your dream. The reason for sleepwalking and sleeptalking could be the firing of motor and speech mechanisms in the brain, but no conclusive evidence for this has been found.

During the course of a normal night of sleep, the human brain switches between deep and light sleep, and dreaming sleep, several times; confusional arousals occur when the brain becomes divided, literally, between sleeping and waking. Part of the brain wakes up, but another part remains deeply asleep. During a confusional arousal, a sleeper may talk, sit up in bed, scream, or even leave the bed and wander around—the proverbial sleepwalking, although that is less common than sleeptalking. Because development of the sleep stage switching mechanism occurs during the period from infancy to about ten years old, confusional arousals are most common in this age group. Current research confirms the validity of popular lore about sleeptalkers and sleepwalkers—that one should not attempt to awaken them. Despite the open eyes, despite the calm or agitated talking, sleeptalkers are deeply asleep. The recommended strategy is that there is no need to yell or try to wake up someone who is sleeptalking; just make sure they are safe and comfortable. In the morning, the sleeper will not remember their episode. See also Sleep disorders entry in NIGHTMARES.... The Element Encyclopedia

Tallness

(Height; Size) To see oneselftaller than usual in a dream means increase in knowledge and wealth.

If a man of authority sees that, it means expansion of his power.

If he is a merchant, it means business prosperity.

If one sees himselfextremely tall and beyond the tallest human being in a dream, it means the nearing of his death, or it could mean his downfall.

It is ominous for a tall person to see himself short in a dream, for it also denotes falling in rank, losing respect, or nearing one’s death. Even seeing oneself shorter in a dream means death.

If one sees his figure taller in a dream, it means that his authority will expand and he will win victory over his enemies. Tallness of one’s figure in a dream also denotes longevity.

If a short person sees himself tall in a dream, it denotes self-deception and boastfulness, or it could represent his stinginess.

The Complete Guide to Interpreting Your Dreams

The Persona

In your dreams are you wearing a disguise or mask? Are you a regal persona or did you become a superhero? Are you using cosmetics or wearing a wig? Are you worried about your appearance in some way? Are you naked? Are your clothes torn and ragged? If so, this kind of dream concerns your persona or personas, as we all have more than one.

The persona represents your public image, the part of yourself that is presented externally by what you say, wear and look like. The word is obviously related to the words ‘person’ and ‘personality’, and comes from the Latin word for mask. So the persona is the mask you put on before you show yourself to the outside world.

Your persona’s wardrobe of masks comprises the various faces you use to present yourself to different audiences in waking life—for example, your family, friends, colleagues and strangers. We wear these masks to help us relate better to different groups of people, but these masks are not the real you. Depending on the context of your dream and how you felt, your unconscious may be warning you that one of your personas is in conflict with your true self, or that you need to adopt a different persona to achieve your goals.

The persona is rarely personified in a dream. It is usually a dream theme, rather than a dream figure: for example, the persona can be said to be present in a dream in which your clothes are stained, or you are naked or inappropriately dressed. At its best, the persona is just the ‘good impression’ you wish to present as you fill the roles society requires of you. But, of course, it can also be the ‘false impression’ you use to manipulate people’s opinions and behaviors.

And, at its worst, it can be mistaken, even by yourself, for your own true nature; sometimes we believe we really are what we pretend to be!... The Element Encyclopedia

Walking And Talking In Your Sleep

Sleepwalking or moving is an attempt to put a dream into action. Most likely you have grown out of the habit, if you ever had it, but if an occasion arises which is very stressful, we may, like Lady Macbeth, re- enact the nightmare in this way. Talking in your sleep is similar in cause to sleep movement. It is an attempt to carry a dream on verbally. You are more likely to walk or talk or move in your sleep when you are under mental pressure. Most of the time this is totally harmless but some sleepwalkers and talkers can put themselves in real danger. Precautions should therefore be taken.

Make sure windows are closed and, if stairs are a hazard, doors locked. If you’re really worried about your sleepwalking, seek advice from your doctor and if someone you know is sleepwalking don’t try to wake them—just guide them quietly and gently back to bed.... Dreampedia

Washing The Dead

(Undertaker) If one sees a deceased person washing himself before burial in a dream, it means relief for one’s dependents and increase of their wealth after him. Washing a deceased person in a dream means that someone will repent at the hand of the undertaker.

If a deceased person asks someone to wash his clothing in a dream, it means that he needs someone to pray for him, or to intercede on his behalf before his Lord, or pay charity for the benefit of his soul, or to satisfy his debts, or to fulfill his will, or to seek justice for his death. Ifone does wash the garment ofthe deceased person in the dream, it means the redemption of that person. Withered Or Dead Flowers

To see withered or dead flowers in your dream denotes disappointments and gloomy situations. You may not be utilizing your full potential and talents.

If you receive wilted blooms in dreamland as a gift from someone you know, think about the nature of your relationship with that person; your unconscious might have detected that the relationship is weakening. Similarly, if you are pricked by a hidden thorn in a bunch of roses given by colleague who was congratulating you in a dream scenario, is it possible that they are concealing real feelings of resentment towards you in waking life? If you gave a bunch of dead flowers to a difficult or strict former schoolteacher, could this highlight your extreme dislike of that person?
