Accepting From Or Giving To The Deceased Something

Accepting something from the dead is regarded as good while giving him something is regarded as bad.

If a person sees a dead person giving him something of this world it mean he will acquire livelihood from an unimaginable source. And if he sees himself giving a dead person clothes normally worn by living persons and he accepts such clothes and wears them it means he (the giver) has a short life span.... Anesthetized, Cold Or Dead Body

The image of an anesthetized body can represent a deadening of feeling, or a loss of passion and creativity in waking life. The same meaning applies to coldness of the body, with the implication of emotional coldness, lack of enthusiasm or distancing oneself from others.

If the coldness is in the lower part of the body, this suggests sexual coldness and again, lack of passion. Coldness in the chest (heart) suggests lack of feelings or feeling cold towards someone.

Cold feet indicate a fear of doing something or indecision. The image of a dead body in a dream depicts feelings and potential to which we have not given expression in daily life.... The Element Encyclopedia

Cabbage / Carrot / Cauliflower / Celery / Cucumber

In some parts of Europe, cabbages are connected to conception or childbirth, because children are told that babies are found in a cabbage patch. On the other hand, cabbage may also refer to tough and difficult aspects of your waking life. To see a carrot in your dream signifies abundance. It may also symbolize a lure—as in the pun ’dangle a carrot’—or can be interpreted as a phallic symbol. In dreams, cauliflower could denote someone who displays little intelligence, as suggested by the phrase ’having cauliflower between your ears’. It could also suggest something that becomes distorted or misshapen as a result of repeated blows, such as cauliflower ears. Celery in dreams denotes problems and issues that need to be faced up to and dealt with, whilst the size of cucumbers in dreams may offer a surprising insight into the extent of your appetite for sex or for life.... Daughter / Son

The most likely explanation for dreams about your children is that you are worried about them in some way or that you need to see certain issues from their point of view.

If you dreamed that you were a parent but you have no children in waking life, this could be wish-fulfillment or your dream child may have represented a new idea, project or commitment. Alternatively, a dream son or daughter may represent one of the many archetypes that are facets of the masculine and feminine principles. Dreams parents may have in which the relationship with a daughter is highlighted tend to represent the health of the relationship between the mother and the father, as the child is the result of that relationship. For example, a sick daughter in a dream could suggest that the relationship is unhealthy.

Dreaming about your daughter often relates to how you feel about her. Is she an adventurous creative person? If so, then the dream will usually be depicting your pride in her achievements, or your own feelings of creativity and risk-taking. Is she an anxious or introverted person, and are you worried about her? If so, then the dream is either about your own urges to withdraw, or your feelings of concern for her.

If you are a mother dreaming of your daughter, it could represent the support you get from her or any ties you feel to her through being her parent. It may also be referring to your own feelings and difficulties at her age that might be surfacing at the time of your dream. You might even be feeling her as a competitor because of her youth.

If you are a father dreaming of your daughter, it usually represents your feelings and your more feminine or receptive side. So problems in the dream could suggest you are having difficulty allowing your feelings to express themselves in waking life. Your daughter could also depict difficult feelings— more often not self-recrimination—you have about mistakes you have made in your relationship with her mother. When your daughter starts dating, dreaming of her might also point out the struggle you have to let go. Dreams about someone else’s daughter often indicate the nature of your feelings about your own daughter

A son, like a daughter, is the fruit of your relationship with your partner; as such, in your dreams he can represent the state of your relationship with his father or mother. On the other hand, he can represent the need for the dreamer to express themselves. He can also suggest the youthful, playful part of yourself or your own potential. Dreams about your son may also have no symbolic meaning at all, and are simply about your own son. Are you worried about him? If you are a mother dreaming of your son, it can indicate ambition and hope.

If you are a father dreaming of your son, it can suggest unfulfilled hopes and dreams.

Dreams about someone else’s son can indicate feelings about your own son.

If you are killing your son in a dream, try not to be shocked; it reflects your anxiety about your son making a move towards independence. Traditionally, it is fortunate to dream about your son.

If you dream of your son getting married, there will be financial worries (easily explained by the cost of the up-and- coming wedding!).... The Element Encyclopedia

Dead

To dream of the dead, is usually a dream of warning.

If you see and talk with your father, some unlucky transaction is about to be made by you. Be careful how you enter into contracts, enemies are around you. Men and women are warned to look to their reputations after this dream.

To see your mother, warns you to control your inclination to cultivate morbidness and ill will towards your fellow creatures.

A brother, or other relatives or friends, denotes that you may be called on for charity or aid within a short time.

To dream of seeing the dead, living and happy, signifies you are letting wrong influences into your life, which will bring material loss if not corrected by the assumption of your own will force.

To dream that you are conversing with a dead relative, and that relative endeavors to extract a promise from you, warns you of coming distress, unless you follow the advice given you. Disastrous consequences could often be averted if minds could grasp the inner workings and sight of the higher or spiritual self.

The voice of relatives is only that higher self taking form to approach more distinctly the mind that lives near the material plane. There is so little congeniality between common or material natures that persons should depend upon their own subjectivity for true contentment and pleasure. Paracelsus says on this subject: ``It may happen that the soul of persons who have died perhaps fifty years ago may appear to us in a dream, and if it speaks to us we should pay special attention to what it says, for such a vision is not an illusion or delusion, and it is possible that a man is as much able to use his reason during the sleep of his body as when the latter is awake; and if in such a case such a soul appears to him and he asks questions, he will then hear that which is true. Through these solicitous souls we may obtain a great deal of knowledge to good or to evil things if we ask them to reveal them to us. Many persons have had such prayers granted to them. Some people that were sick have been informed during their sleep what remedies they should use, and after using the remedies, they became cured, and such things have happened not only to Christians, but also to Jews, Persians, and heathens, to good and to bad persons.’’ The writer does not hold that such knowledge is obtained from external or excarnate spirits, but rather through the personal _Spirit Glimpses_ that is in man.--AUTHOR. ... Dead

If you dreamed that you were dead, this is actually a positive omen. It symbolizes renewal and letting go of an old stage of life. This is also a common dream when you are getting over an illness, and are getting better. However, if you dreamed of dying slowly, you need to drastically change your routine and reenergize your life.

To dream that someone you care about is dead, suggests that you are lacking a certain quality that the loved one represents. Ask yourself what makes this person special or what do you like about them.

It is that very quality that you are lacking in your own relationship or circumstances.

To see dead people in your dream who you do not know in real life, forewarns that you are being influenced by negative people and are hanging around the wrong crowd. This dream may also be a way for you to resolve your feelings with those who have passed on. However, if you spoke with someone who is dead, you may soon hear very good news.

To dream of someone dead coming to life again suggests that you miss them and are trying to relive your old experiences you had with them. Also look up “Zombie”... My Dream Interpretation

My Dream Interpretation

Dead

(Person / Animal) / Death

(1) Does the dream contain a dead person you actually knew? If so, the dream may mean you should take notice of what he or she said or did, or of what happened to him or her. The dead person is ‘coming back1, not to haunt but to advise and help you.

There’s really nothing ‘spooky1 about meeting dead people in dreams. Such encounters may help you to fulfil a long-desired deep relationship, or to put something right. For example, you may learn to forgive the person and as a consequence get peace and healing for yourself.

(2) If a deceased partner or parent appears in dreams, (1) above may apply. Bear in mind also that the dead do live on - inside us; and that it is important to realize when this is a healthy and life-enhancing thing and when it is purely negative, stunting our own personal development.

If it is the latter, resolve to have it out with the person the next time he or she appears in a dream.

(3) If the dead person in the dream is actually a living person - and especially if that person is your partner or parent or sibling - the dream may be expressing unconscious resentment towards that person, or a desire to be independent. Feelings towards someone close are often ambivalent: love or respect mixed with fear or hatred or resentment or jealousy.

The usual conscious response to such a dream will be anxiety, and you may even feel anxiety in the dream itself. However, Freud was convinced that in such cases anxiety was a cloak for unconscious - because repressed - hostility’. (On the Oedipus complex) See also Murder.

(4) The dead person may be you (and could stand for you even if in the dream he is distinct from the dream ego). In that case, consider the following possibilities:

(a) What is being expressed in the dream may be your own anxiety’ about dying. Death is inevitable, and facing up to that fact may bring great rewards: self-acceptance; new values; a broadening of one’s personality’, compensating for past omissions or lopsidedness and utilizing hitherto neglected personal resources. This would be specially applicable if vou were in the second half of life.

(b) The message may be that y’our old self needs to be left behind. This mav mean that you must stop carrying around with yrou the crippling burden of vour past (irrational guilt-feelings and martyrdom complex, or any other negative self-programming); and, instead, you must open yourself to what the present moment is offering. Alternatively, the ‘old self5 may be old attachments, habits, ambitions, values, goals; in which case the dream is telling you that the only way forward for you lies through giving these up and looking deeper within yourself for better values, etc. (where ‘better5 means more in tune with your real self).

(Primitive rites of passage, which mark transitional stages in a person’s life - birth, initiation into adulthood, marriage, death - all contain death-and-rebirth symbolism and express a recognition that the dissolving - ‘death5 - of past attitudes is a necessary prelude to the development of new attitudes more appropriate to one’s new stage in life. The symbolic death of the initiate in these rites may also be seen as a descent of the conscious ego into the unconscious: it is the unconscious that provides the means for new growth - ‘rebirth5. See also Sacrifice.)

(c) It is just possible that, if your own death features repeatedly in dreams, it is an expression of an unconscious wish for death. Freud speculated in Beyond the Pleasure Principle that there might be, in everyone, just two contending basic drives: one towards life and love and pleasure (‘Eros’), the other towards death (Thanatos5). This is highly controversial, but it is indisputable that many people display a strong masochistic tendency.

Are you compelled to repeat a painful experience? Do you tend to interpret what other people say as a criticism of yourself? If so, you may be suffering from repressed guilt-feelings and an unconscious urge to punish yourself - which may sometimes take the form of a fate-neurosis and / or a wish (unconscious) to see yourself dead.

If you feel this applies to you, talk to a friend about it or consult a psychotherapist. See also Suicide.

A wish for death may be a retreat from life’s problems and pains, or a response to (a sense of) failure.

If this applies to you, bear in mind, first, that a very sensitive person may also be burdened with an over-severe conscience (the product, perhaps, of having a stem father or a sin-and- guilt religious upbringing). In that case, see the previous paragraph. Secondly, what makes a thing a problem is usually one’s attitude towards it. For example, suppose you have been made redundant.

If your reaction is to see this as a punishment, see the previous paragraph.

If you see it as failure, try to change your attitude or perspective by asking what creative purpose may be being served bv your redundancy: perhaps, for instance, the demolishing of an inadequate or false self- image in order to make way for the construction of one that corresponds more closely to your individual ground-plan or ‘destiny’.

(5) If the gender of the dead person is stressed, the meaning may be that your masculinitv / femininity or your animus / anima needs reviving.

(6) A dead animal in a dream almost certainly refers to some part of you - an instinctive force, perhaps - and the dream will be telling you either that this part of you (e.g. guilt-feelings or inferiority complex) ought to die, because its effects are wholly negative; or that it is a valuable but repressed part of yourself that you must now bring to life, to rectify an imbalance in vour personality.... Dead / Death

Dreams about the dead or about death are not usually omens of literal death, although they may indicate anxiety about death. Violent death may represent anger and aggression, although much depends on the more general tone or “atmosphere” of the dream. When the dreamer dies but is not particularly unhappy or distraught in the dream, death often symbolizes the letting go (or “death”) of an old part of the self or the destruction of a prior stage of life.

This kind of dream death is, in other words, a symbol of self-transformation.

A lifeless corpse, on the other hand, may represent a feeling of devitalization—a kind of death in life that comes from adhering to a lifeless routine. (See also Burial, Coffin, Crypt, Grave, Hearse).... Dream Symbols in The Dream Encyclopedia

Dead End

If you come to a dead end in your dream, your unconscious is telling you there is no way of escaping your fears, even though you feel that it is vital for you to flee. The same interpretation applies a number of similar dreams; whether you are caught in quicksand, forced to carry an impossibly heavy weight, suddenly become paralyzed, find yourself rooted to the spot and powerless to do anything, or find that your feet have become heavy or stuck in the mud when trying to flee someone or something.

If you have such disturbing dreams it is possible that you are facing some kind of emotional crisis in your life that requires a drastic decision; for example, whether you should leave your partner or not.

If you are being chased, identifying who or what was chasing you or why you need to escape may help you decide what course of action to take in real life.

If you don’t know who the person chasing you is, this may stand for certain unpalatable aspects of your personality which have been repressed but which are now forcing you to deal with them. Alternatively, your unconscious may be reflecting on your feelings of powerlessness in regard to a difficult situation in your waking life. Dead Husband Or Wife

Many dreams of dead people come from women who have lost their husband.

It is common to have disturbing dreams for some period afterwards; or not be able to dream about the husband (or wife) at all; or to see the partner in the distance but not get near. In accepting the death, meeting any feelings of loss, grief, anger and continuing love, the dream may become as below.

The example both shows the resolution of the loss, but also the paradox felt at realising the meeting was an inner reality. Example: ‘A couple of months ago as I was waking I felt my husband’s arm across me and most realistically experienced my hand wrapping around his arm and turning towards him (which I had done so often in his lifetime) and saying “1 thought you had died. Thank God you have not.” Then I awoke alone and terribly shaken’ (Mrs I).

A critic might say this is only a dream in which a lonely woman is replaying memories of her dead husband’s presence for her own comfort—thus her disappointment on being disillusioned. Whatever our opinion, the woman has within her such memories to replay. These are reality.

The inner reality is of what experience was left within her from the relationship. Her challenge is whether she can meet this treasure with its share of pain, and draw out of it the essence which enriches her own being. That is the spiritual life of her husband.

The aliveness’ of her husband in that sense is also social, because many other people share memories of him. What arises in their own lives from such memories is the observable influence of the now dead person.

But the dead also touch us more mysteriously, as in the next example. Example: In a recent news programme on television, a man who survived a Japanese prisoner of war camp in Singapore had been given a photograph of children by a dying soldier he did not know.

The man had asked him to tell his family of his death, but did not give his name.

The photograph was kept for 40 odd years, the man still wanting to complete his promise but not knowing how. One night he dreamt he was told the man’s name. Enquiries soon found the family of the man, who had an identical photograph. See husband under family. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Example: ‘My husband’s mother, no longer alive, came and slid her arms carefully under me and lifted me up. I shouted “Put me down! Put me down! Most dreams in which dead people appear are expressive of our attempts to deal with our feelings, guilt or anger in connection with the person who died, or our own feelings about death. In the example the dreamer is feeling fear about being carried off by death.

When someone close to us dies we go through a period of change from relating to them as an external reality, to meeting and accepting them as alive in our memories and inner life. In the next example the man has not only come to terms with his mother’s and his own death, but also found this inner reality. Example: A dark grey sugar loaf form materialised. This pillar lightened in shade as I watched. It didn’t move. I began to think it was Mrs Molten who died in 1956.

The feeling grew stronger but still the colour lightened. Then it bent over and kissed my head. In that instant I knew it was my mother.

It can refer to the death of feelings in connection with someone, to the depression that follows big changes in your life or to the feeling that you are going nowhere. Alternatively, the dead person may be a part of yourself that you want to leave behind or it could be a warning that you are taking too much from life and not putting enough back.

If you dreamed of the death of a loved one who is seriously ill or advanced in years, your unconscious may have been preparing you for their future departure from your life. By exposing you in the dream to emotions that will overwhelm you, your shock may be lessened and thus easier to bear.

Dreams such as this one may also be urging you to tell loved ones how much they mean to you before it is too late. If, in your dream, you felt no emotion at all when a loved one died, the interpretation is likely to be different, as it represents something in your life that is coming to an end or that should end. An alternative explanation is that you fear the death of your relationship, particularly if your partner has withdrawn emotionally from you in the waking world. A dream in which you became a widow or widower or suffer bereavement can indicate feelings of loneliness in waking life.

If you are in a relationship, such a dream may suggest that there is a lack of understanding or a communication breakdown between you and your partner. For dreams of a dead person see GHOSTS.... The Element Encyclopedia

Dream It With Flowers

In Victorian America and Europe, flowers were attributed with specific meanings by young men and women who used them during courtship to send messages to each other, whether in a forthright manner or by more clandestine means. Straightforward romantic or poetic thoughts were conveyed by the presentation of a single bloom, whilst lengthier messages were communicated by larger arrangements.

Love and happiness were not the only feelings expressed by these floral epistles. Infidelity, jealousy, disdain and rejection were also expressed by a suitably chosen bloom. Whilst a simple flower may have been sent to a young lady to propose marriage, another seemingly innocuous blossom may have been sent in response, telling the gentleman caller to ‘get lost’. The color of the flower was extremely significant; to cite a few examples, red usually meant love, yellow indicated friendship, lavender suggested enchantment, and orange fascination.

As far as dream interpretation goes, the list of meanings is seemingly endless, as nearly every flower has been attributed with a specific meaning at some point in time. In Victorian times, the range of available flowers was limited, and so certain flowers had specific meanings; today, with so many flower choices, there are no rules—it’s the sentiment and personal association that gives the flower meaning to you in a dream. For those interested in the historic or generally accepted meanings of flowers, the list below has been compiled from a variety of different sources, including the American Society of Florists.

Flower

Traditional symbol for emotions (“Say it with flowers”). Beauty and fertility. Growing and fading away, like life. Expectations of and hope for love and relationships. Important is the type and the color of the flower. Red roses point to sexual love, white roses and other flowers point to innocence, blue flowers to the strength of the soul and emotions. Snowdrops point to overcoming the cold of winter, asters to autumn and death. Picking flowers is considered a symbol of sexual experience.

In the Middle Ages, flowers with broken stems meant sexual intercourse. In India, in dream interpretations, the flower is the symbol of the highest pleasure. In Freud’s dream interpretations, the flower is dealt with extensively and symbolizes women, tenderness, female genitals and genitals in general, as in Blossoms (see Anais Nin’s The Delta of Venus).

(see also Mandala; entries for particular flowers: e.g. Rose, etc.)

(1) A flower may symbolize what Jung called ‘the Self: the true self; the fundamental order and beauty of the psyche. (For ‘SelP) (In Eastern mystic-meditative traditions, particularly the Taoist and Zen Buddhist, meditation on a flower is recommended as a means of promoting inner healing.)

(2) An asymmetrical flower — for example, with one petal much larger than the others, or in which what should be the centre of the flower is actually off-centre - may indicate a lack of balance in your psyche: some part / function has been developed at the expense of others; or it may be that you have lost your ‘centre’ altogether - that is, have become disorientated.

If so, you may need to put aside externally or intellectually imposed values and rediscover your inner centre, where you will find the values that are right for you. (This does not mean an

out-and-out relativity of values. The values that correspond to your individual ‘destiny’ will be seen to centre on love, which means awareness of the oneness of all life and ensures respect for other people.)

(3) The flower in your dream may be a reminder of the beauty and stillness of Nature, and of the need to get back to that beauty and stillness in yourself; a reminder that just being, and letting the ground- plan of your life unfold itself, is more important than (external) achieving.... Flowering Tree

People have worshipped trees for centuries and profound symbolism is associated with them. The dream image of a mature flowering tree can evoke the Tree of Knowledge and the Tree of Life at the heart of Eden or the cross on which Jesus was sacrificed, which is also called a tree and is a symbol of redemption. These Judeo-Christian images have their counterparts in other cultures and myths, with divine trees that sustain knowledge, spiritual growth and divinity, perhaps the best known being the mighty ash Yggdrasil of the Norsemen. And in Islamic belief a tree symbolizes a spiritually mature person. A tree can also represent time; the root, the past; the trunk, the present and the branches, the future. Perhaps your dream says something about your hopes for the future.

According to ancient dream-lore, climbing a tree is said to be lucky.

If you dream of a fruit-bearing tree, take a look at which type of fruit is present and its meaning for you.

If you noticed the species of tree, what is that species associated with for you? Did you dream of the mighty, strong oak, dainty cherry tree or somber, dark conifers? Did you dream of a single tree or a forest? If you find yourself lost in a forest, perhaps you ’can’t see the forest for the trees’ or have lost sight of your goals. Walking through a forest may symbolize a need to get back in touch with your inner self and your instinctual nature.... The Element Encyclopedia

The fragile loveliness of flowers, their bright colors, exquisite shapes and fragrant scents have meant they have long been regarded as a symbol of the spiritual self and pure inner beauty.

This is why, apart from enjoying them ourselves, we use flowers as gestures of love, reassurance and sympathy and why we often give them to people we like, love or admire. It is generally in one or other of these contexts that flowers appear in your dreams. When flowers are in bloom their beauty is vibrant and colorful but also fleeting and fragile, because as soon as a flower bursts from its bud into full bloom it is in the process of dying to make way for the next generation of flowers. As such, flowers in dreams can also be symbols of hope and optimism, as well as of the cycle of birth and death.

In his practice, Carl Jung observed that the dreams his patients reported consistently contained geometric shapes, such as circles, squares and triangles. A close look at a flower reveals that it is similarly composed of repeated shapes and patterns, reminiscent of the mandalas used in the Eastern religions that represent the wholeness of the spirit unfolding like a blossoming flower. The Buddha observed that the lilies floating in a pond were in various stages of development, just as each individual is in various stages of spiritual development. Some rose above muddy conditions to thrive whilst others struggled to survive.

In helping you discern their particular meaning, the color and condition of the flowers in your dream may be as significant as the flowers themselves. For example, red roses speak of romance and beauty whilst white roses speak of purity, spirit and healing. To dream about new blossoms suggests the opening of the inner self. To dream about a healthy flower represents healthy vitality, and to dream about a wilted flower represents a low energy or life force. Dreaming of an expansive field of beautiful wildflowers may symbolize freedom and uninhibited growth. Flowers growing through concrete or popping up through the snow might symbolize a strong spirit whilst flowers growing in the spring indicate new growth and beginnings. Flowers are often present in dreams of departed loved ones, symbolizing the natural cycle of life and death. Reflect upon the personal significance of the flower to determine its meaning in your dream. Take note, too, if the flowers have unusual colors; a friend giving you green roses, for example, may be jealous of your romantic attachments. Flowers In Bloom

Flowers that are blossoming in dreams may symbolize the flowering of an idea or new relationship, or that a new phase in your life has begun. According to Freud, flowers are a female symbol, because of their cup-shaped blossoms and because a bee enters them in order to fertilize them. A flower in male dreams may therefore represent women in general or a particular woman. They can also represent an idea that has been fertilized in your mind. Pink or white blossom may also be a symbol of innocence in a dream and if the image of blossom fluttering down to the grass appears, this may signify the passing of innocence. When interpreting your dream, remember that a bloom is a plant’s reproductive structure, the carpel containing the female reproductive organ, and the stamen the male. So if your dreaming mind focused on a flower, the reference may also be sexual. And if the flower that bloomed in your dream was one that you recognize, its personal or symbolic meaning may have further relevance for you in waking life.

If, in your dream, the flowers were particularly colorful, this signifies kindness, compassion, gentleness, pleasure, beauty, and gain. Your dream may be an expression of love, joy and happiness. The colors of your dream flower may also be significant, as would their shape. Alternatively, dream flowers may denote a particular time, season or day of special significance to the dreamer or may relate to a specific sign of the Zodiac (see box on page 247). Keywords: Symbolic of beauty and inner development, puberty, coming into flower, seeing the beauty in a situation, violating, plundering or removing innocence and beauty from something, deflowering it, a homonym for flour.... Garden Flowers

In general, cultivated flowers symbolize how we can influence and control our development, whilst wild flowers and weeds symbolize spontaneity and how nature’s abundance comes in all shapes and varieties.

If you were planting flowers in rows in a garden or see formally arranged flowers in a flower bed, this could be suggesting that your life is a little too organized and lacking in spontaneity. Although it could also indicate that your personal life needs putting in order, in general flowers appearing in a dream garden suggest that your life lacks vibrancy and you are too preoccupied with the practical business of earning a living.

A dream of an inviting, flower-filled garden scene may be encouraging your waking self to relax.

If you dreamed that you were lounging lazily in a garden surrounded by flower-filled borders, your unconscious may have been mirroring your sense of satisfaction with your waking life but also may have been encouraging you to take the time to enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

If the flowers in the garden are dead, wilting or attacked by a worm or grub, this conveys a message of regret and danger.

If flowers are strewn across your garden, your house or even yourself, this suggests that your life contains a great deal of pleasure and fulfillment.

If you were watering or feeding the flowers in the garden or anywhere else in your dream, this suggests that you need to work on a relationship. Did you dream that your garden suddenly became parched and you were rushing to find water to feed the flowers? If this was the case, perhaps a dream like this is implying that you need to pay more attention to those around you, as your close personal relationships— symbolized by the drought-stricken flowers—are in urgent need of nourishment and rejuvenation.

Giving And Receiving Flowers

If you dream of sending someone flowers or presenting or receiving flowers or a bouquet, try to identify who the other person in the dream is. It may be someone you admire, love or respect, someone from whom you desire admiration, love or respect, or someone who has more regard for you than you realize. According to dream-lore, to dream that you receive a bouquet of flowers represents respect, approval, admiration and reward.

If you can’t identify the person in your dream, this suggests that your self-esteem needs a boost. A garland of flowers given or received has similar, though more formal, associations.

If you are sending or receiving a wreath of flowers, this may be connected with feelings of guilt, hostility of loss that you need come to terms with.

If you are giving dead flowers in your dream, this represents something you want cut out of your life because you no longer have anything more than dead feelings towards it.... The Element Encyclopedia

Giving Birth

If you are a woman and you dream of giving birth, the first question to ask yourself is do you actually want to get pregnant? If you do, your dream may be an example of wish-fulfillment. The purpose of your unconscious was probably to fulfill your fervent desire for all to go well. There have also been recorded instances of women and men dreaming about the birth of a baby before they even knew they were expecting; somehow the dream was a response to the presence of an actual fetus, not yet detected by doctors and pregnancy tests.

If you are pregnant and you dream that labor and delivery was difficult, it probably reflects anxieties about the impending birth. The same applies to dreams about giving birth to an animal; they are simply mirroring your concerns and anxieties.

If you are a prospective father, your dream may also be depicting your hopes and fears for the welfare of your unborn child.

If you are not pregnant, birth dreams can indicate a desire for children but are more likely to represent something else in waking life. The birth of a child signals a new beginning and the emergence of new life; in dreams the meaning is much the same: a new way of life, a new attitude, a new discovery, a new project and so on.

If you hear about a birth, or watch or witness a birth in your dream, this also suggests the beginning of a new and fruitful cycle in your life.

Birth dreams therefore are an expression of big changes that have been occurring for a long period of time. Did the dream delivery go well or was it difficult?

Again, the answer may indicate the likely ease of turning your hopes into reality.

If this doesn’t apply, then dream births may symbolize your brain child, perhaps an idea or a project you are longing to complete successfully.

Alternatively, did your dream focus on one aspect of birth—the umbilical cord, for example? If the cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck, this may indicate that your ideas are being strangled or in danger of being strangled.

If the cord was neatly severed, this can indicate that your ideas have been cut free and are now independent of you.

If there were problems cutting the cord, this could be a symbol of a grown-up family that is beginning to leave home. Or it may be that you yourself are finding it hard to fly the family nest and branch out on your own.

If you are not able to see your baby after a difficult labor, this can indicate that you are laboring in vain in waking life and aren’t being rewarded by the sight of your mental offspring.... The Element Encyclopedia

Individual Flower Meanings

If a specific type of flower appears in your dream, the first step on your road to interpreting it is to find out whether it awakens a personal association. For example, daisies may trigger happy memories of childhood when you spent hours in the sunshine with your friends making daisy chains, whereas lilies may trigger unhappy memories because they bedecked a loved one’s funeral. If, however, the flower in your dream evoked no special memory, then your unconscious may have tapped into the universal symbolism associated with certain flowers. In past times, each individual flower had a traditional meaning and your unconscious may be accessing this knowledge to illustrate a point or convey a message to you. This is especially true if you are given flowers or are giving flowers to another person.

If you are intrigued by the possibility that a specific flower in your dream may be sending you a message, the information below may help. It might also be worth researching the medicinal, historical and secular associations of the flower, as well as its spiritual symbolism. Another tip is to take the name of the dream flower into consideration as your dreaming mind may, for example, have featured a rose to remind you of a special friend called Rose, or if you dreamed of a bleeding heart wilting, is someone close to you heading for a broken heart? Don’t forget, however, that a specific flower may have individual meanings for you, so if the emphasis in your dream seems to be on one particular species, try to recognize any possible personal connections first.... We may dream about our mothers in many different forms. She may be disguised in our dreams, and it is our job to find her in there.

If you are dreaming about your mother, you may be addressing some issues or concerns in your dream, or your dream may be based on a valuable memory.

Thus, the woman is that force, or current, inside of you that nudges you on and inspires you.

Mother

Your own nature, the archetypal feminine— life-giving, nurturing, devouring, protecting, that which is fruitful and fertile. When the mother in the dream is your real mother, it points to a bad conscience because of past behavior toward her. When the mother in the dream refers to the internal mother, it points to a desire for psychological support that is often not provided by a partner.

The mother in a dream, as well as in fairy tales, is often the helper whose strength, in a negative as well as positive sense, reaches beyond death. She is the Witch, the Wise Old One, who gives correct advice, the Earth and the goddess of the earth.

The symbol of the mother also addresses the task of self-discipline. Be a good mother to yourself and thereby become productive.

Mother

Our relationship with mother is pivotal in our development and will often give rise to her appearance in dreams. Largely it is the first relationship we develop, probably should be perceived as a nurturing, caring one, and allows us to develop such relationships with other people.

If this does not happen, fears and doubts may arise. In a man’s life this may result in continually developing dependent relationships with older women, or denying his right to a relationship completely. His dreams may highlight this difficulty until such times as he is prepared to address the problem. As he grows to maturity he may experience dreams that highlight the loss of his mother. In a woman’s life, her relationship with her mother will colour all other relationships. Negatively, she may find herself pushed into nurturing the needy male, or in forming relationships with both men and women that do not satisfy her basic needs. There are many ways through dreams of working through relationships with mother, both symbolically and otherwise, and much can be gained by daring to take this step. Provided we have come to terms with and understood this relationship, much material and spiritual success can be achieved. Positive images of mothering and motherhood may also give us access to archetypal material that is connected with mother earth and our place in the world.... Dream Meanings of Versatile

Mother

Your dream mother relates to the mother archetype rather than your real mother. Reflect on all the aspects of the mother role playing out in your life to resolve this dream.

• Sometimes these dreams represent survival issues but generally they signify a need to explore the relationship with your real mother and how that is affecting your current relationships.

• Do you judge your mothering abilities? Do you need to “mother” yourself more when this ream occurs?... The Premier in Dream Dictionary

Mother

The symbols of the mother have a remarkable versatility. On the one hand, the mother appears as an image of nature (i.e., life) and, conversely, as a representation of death (for the Egyptians, the vulture symbolized the mother). The mother relates to virtually all stages and circumstances of existence. It always represents our origin, our roots, security, shelter, warmth, tenderness, etc. At the same time, this symbol also appears when we die, that is, when we return to the bosom of Mother Earth.

Dreaming of this figure is usually more common during childhood. In adults, however, the maternal figure appears through indirect references. Often, those who fail to reach maturity still have these dreams. Acts of rebellion against the mother are also frequent. These episodes manifest adolescent dissatisfaction, the need for independence, and the desire to break away from the maternal ties. A dream of this kind can occur at any age. On the other hand, Freud referred to the Greek myth of Oedipus, who killed his father to marry his mother. According to the psychoanalyst, Oedipus was driven to this crime by incestuous desire and envy of his father. As for women, Freud believed that their feelings of inferiority were based on the jealousy they felt toward men. (See COAT, WHITE, FOUNTAIN, INCEST, and MOON)

Legends and myths of many traditions contain the symbol of the mother. She may appear as a figure of generosity or, on the contrary, be that bad guy in the story.... The Big Dictionary of Dreams

Mother

[DREAM IMAGES: MATRIARCH, MOTHER NATURE]

The mother archetype appears in many forms—mother, princess and witch— and is symbolized by the primordial mother, or ‘earth mother’, of mythology, by Eve and Mary in Western traditions, and by less personal symbols, such as the church, the nation, a forest or the ocean. According to Jung, someone whose own mother failed to satisfy the demands of the archetype may well be one that spends his or her life seeking comfort in the church, or in identification with ‘the motherland’, or in meditating upon the figure of Mary, or in a life at sea. In dreams, mother figures suggest nurturing aspects of ourselves and others, or the need for greater compassion and selflessness; they can, however, also suggest the shadow side, which is overprotection, abandonment, cruelty and abuse. Bear in mind that the qualities that are associated with this archetype can be expressed in other than biological ways, such as giving birth to books or ideas, or nurturing others. Mother

A dream about your mother may be telling you something about your relationship with your mother. Mother-attachment may be so strong that the development of your own individuality has been stalled. Gaining inner independence from your mother is the first great step towards realizing your true self. The mother may symbolize the unconscious, intuitive part of yourself. This, however, can take a positive or a negative form. She may appear as a kindly mother or aunt, or as a place such as a cave, church or garden; all these images represent the qualities of growth, nourishment and fertility. In her negative form, a mother may appear as a witch or a dragon, and represent dark, destructive tendencies that can devour and destroy.

Freud believed that the Greek myths of Oedipus and Electra symbolized psychological conditions. Oedipus killed his father and married his mother and Freud claimed this represented a boy’s incestuous desire for his mother and his jealousy towards his father. Electra desired her father and was jealous of her mother. A girl may therefore believe she has been castrated by her mother and is an incomplete male. According to Freud this gave rise to penis envy; the root cause of women’s so- called feelings of inferiority. Freud’s Oedipus complex theory is no longer accepted today but there is no doubt that the mother relationship is the first pivotal relationship in a child’s life and it should be a nurturing, loving and supportive one. Jungians associate her with the Great mother archetype that influences our psychological growth. Each of us has a fundamental, perhaps instinctive drive to bond with a woman at birth and if that bonding does not happen much of what would be considered normal development cannot or does not take place. So mother sometimes represents the survival instinct and what happens in those early years of trying to becoming independent of such needs. In a man’s life if these needs are not met this may result in dependent relationships with older women or inability to commit long term to a relationship. In a woman’s life her relationship with her mother will impact all other relationships and if it is lacking in some way she may find herself nurturing needy males or in forming unsatisfying relationships with both men and women. Scenarios involving the mother figure in dreams are therefore one way of working through and moving forward from these issues. Of course, a dream about your mother could also be just that: a straightforward depiction of the woman who gave us life. How she appears may point to issues in your upbringing or current relationship. Is she proud of you or angry?... The Element Encyclopedia

Mother Mary, Quan Yin

This is an archetypal character aspect that represents the healing that occurs through the principles of love and compassion. While there are many other archetypal representations of the power of love, this entry will limit itself to these two, as they are perhaps the most widely recognized symbols of divine forgiveness in the history of the human race. In dream work, they should be treated symbolically as archetypes, and their appearance in a dream indicates that you are experiencing a high level of self-discovery and integration. Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Quan Yin, Buddhist goddess of mercy and compassion, embody the feminine principle in its highest evolution.

The feminine principle connects to the power of love and receptivity. Both of these figures are revered by millions as the purveyors of forgiveness and unconditional love. Though the traditions that created each of them could not be more different, what they offer to those who turn to them in their hour of need is exactly the same. One of the most difficult challenges that all human beings face is the process of forgiveness, and the ability to forgive one’s self is particularly elusive.

The human mind is not built for unconditional love, even though it is a concept that many who travel the path of service continually strive to achieve. No matter how she may appear to you, the archetype of the divine mother can help you inch your way out of shame and resentment and move toward the healing that can only come through love and mercy.

The appearance of one of these great figures in a dream is to put you on notice that you are in a moment of elevating consciousness and self-integration.

It is not uncommon for any archetypal figure to be silent in a dream; it is their mere presence that embodies the impact of the dream.

If words and messages are present in the dream, take them to heart and do so literally. However, if this is not the case, your best use of such a dream is silent gratitude for the gift of such a powerful experience of elevated consciousness.

Smothering / Strangling / Choking

Dreaming that you are having difficulty breathing and are in danger of dying as a result may carry important messages for the dreamer. This type of a dream experience is usually very frightening, and at times people are awakened from their dream due to the fear. This dream may have several different explanations and the catalysts may be forces from either within the individuals emotional and psychological makeup or circumstances on the outside of the individual.

The suffocation is either do to internal forces or an external situation.

The dreamer may experience great difficulties when it comes to free self expression. They may have difficulties in expressing their fear, anger, love, or any other powerful emotion and are literally choking on them in their dream. Choking in your dream suggests that you are having problems in communicating your thoughts, needs, and feelings. Additionally, smothering may imply that the dreamer can not accept certain situations in their life and is feeling suffocated by a current problem.

To interpret this dream accurately consider all of the details in it, think about your daily life and those things that cause you great stress and restrict your freedom. The Great Mother

The symbols are Virgin Mary, sometimes one’s own mother, a divine female, an old or ageless woman, the Earth, a blue grotto, the sea, a whale, a cave. Whatever the image, it often contains great religious feeling or spiritual uplift. After all, our mother was the most powerful being in our early world. Did she admire hunters? Then we would kill dragons and cleanse the world. Did she feel the weight of the world? Then we would be the peacemaker and bring her joy.

The symbols of mother represent not simply our relationship with her, but also how it influences our own growth towards independence. As a baby our consciousness of self does not feel separate from mother.

The gradual separation of the sense of self is difficult. In some people it is never managed, even though they separate physically. Their mother, or their sense of their mother within them, still directs their decisions.

The old joke about My mother wouldn’t like this’ is true. In many older cultures this break was worked out in ritual tribal custom. Today we have to manage these subtleties of our psyche alone.

A woman must find a way of transforming the pleasure—or absence of it—of her mother’s breast into a love for a male.

If she cannot she may wish to return to the breast of another female, or be the man her father never was for her.

A man must find a way of transforming his unconscious desire for his mother into love of a woman which is more than a dependent or demanding baby or youth.

If he cannot he may seek his mother in a likely woman, ignoring who that woman is as a real person. And the acceptance of our mother as she really is—a human being—precedes the acceptance of ourself as we really are.

The symbols of the Great Mother hold in them our awareness, unconscious as it may be, of the forces of nature active in us. These forces, in the guise often of a beautiful woman dancing or beckoning, are both wonderful and dangerous.

The dance of nature is unconscious.

If we get in its way we will be ground under its heel as it dances on its beautiful way.

To meet this aspect of ourself we must be both admiring and resourceful.

The danger for a man might be that he loses himself in desire for all women or one woman, for a woman, that she becomes a spiritual whore, thinking she can uplift all through her womb. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

Wild, Cut Or Artificial Flowers

In dreams, wild flowers represent freedom, freshness and natural beauty, symbolizing a disregard for the highly organized beauty of artificial flower beds or plastic flowers.

If many flowers are growing in your dream, this indicates feelings of wellbeing and optimism. The opposite will be the case if the flowers are dying or wilting. Do nature’s simple charms have great meaning for you, with your dream of wild flowers indicating the need for a simpler life? Or do you feel you are about to flower and fulfill your potential? Dreamers picking wild flowers may be turning away from their partner.

Cut flowers are unable to give pleasure in their natural setting and therefore may suggest artificiality and appearance over substance. Because flowers are a symbol of sexuality, fake or artificial flowers in a dream may suggest that those whom you think of as friends are actually showing you a false face or persona. On the other hand, flowers in a vase suggest a showcasing of your inner beauty or something that facilitates your personal development.

If you were arranging flowers in a vase or in a floral arrangement, try to remember if you did so carelessly or with great care. The positioning of flowers in dream floral arrangements can indicate how we unconsciously relate to others.

If your arrangement was artless or careless, you have a casual approach to relationships with others that may leave others feeling unimportant to you.

If you took extreme care with the arrangement, this can either indicate a positive, caring approach to relationships with others or controlling and manipulative tendencies. And if dried flowers appeared in your dream, this suggests that past relationships may be more important to you than the people with whom you are currently interacting in waking life.... Similarly, if you are pricked by a hidden thorn in a bunch of roses given by colleague who was congratulating you in a dream scenario, is it possible that they are concealing real feelings of resentment towards you in waking life?
