CRYING

Dreaming of crying or moaning is usually a straightforward release of some type of pain, regret, guilt, or sadness.

If it is the cry of an animal, the emotions are likely tied to whatever that creature represents.

The cry of a child can represent your own inner child trying to get attention (see Baby). Alternatively, for new parents this is a circumstantial dream caused by normal concerns, and by being woken up so frequently by the newborn.... The Language of Dreams

CRYING

You are feeling a heightened emotionalism in your life right now, powerful enough to bleed over into your dreams. Water represents emotion, and tears are the fluid expression of our deepest emotions as squeezed out by the body.

If you are crying in a dream, then you are likely in some sort of mourning or expression of grief.

If someone else is crying, then a character aspect that lives within you is involved in a powerful emotional process.

If this is the case, then use the character who is crying to gain a deeper understanding of what part of your personality is undergoing a shift. Tears of sadness connect to loss. Tears of joy connect with gain and could indicate getting to the other side of a challenging transition.

The more acutely you can feel the physicality of crying upon waking, the closer to consciousness the wound is.

The level of disconsolation you feel may give you an idea of the intensity of the hurt you are cleansing. Remember that in your dreams, just as in life, crying is a healthy and powerful way of processing grief and facilitating transition and transformation.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

CRYING / SCREAMING / LAUGHING

If you or someone else was crying, screaming or laughing in your dream, this may be a confirmation of how they are feeling in waking life. Similarly, if you woke up laughing, screaming or crying after your dream, could these vocalized emotions be expressing the happiness, excitement and sadness you are experiencing in waking life? Or were you crying for help or screaming in terror? Have you been repressing powerful emotions in waking life and did venting them in dreamland give you a sense of release?

Dreams of crying may function as a release for the sorrow or grief that has been holding you back consciously or unconsciously in waking life. Alternatively, such dreams may be an intuitive awareness of something ending or someone leaving in your waking life; or are your tears crocodile tears?

Dreams of laughing suggest a release of tension or an attempt to put yourself and others at ease. Depending on your feelings during the dream and on waking, the laugh may however be a sign that you are hiding the truth or taking things too lightly, as sometimes laughter can hide sadness and the truth. Bear in mind that laughter can also be a sign of contempt, and if someone laughs in your face, your unconscious may have used the archetype of the Trickster in an attempt to make you rethink something or reconsider your values. When the laughter becomes the kind of cackling associated in folklore with wicked witches and mischief-making, this may represent your inner voice questioning and ridiculing your pretensions.... CRYING

Emotions being released. In our dreams we experience a variety of emotions. Crying in the dream state generally has the same meaning as crying in daily life.

It is a release of negative emotion, frustration, or fear. On the other hand, you could be experiencing the tears of joy. Due to repression or denial, sometimes people are unable to express their feelings. In the dream state some of our defense mechanisms may relax and an emotional release occurs. Some emotional dreams may be compensatory in nature. Thus, if you never cry in daily life, you may cry in your dreams.... The Bedside Dream Dictionary

TOMB

Something inside you has died and you should find out what it stands for and why it has appeared in the subconscious. Also, this dream invites you to reflect over a terminal state, about what it means for your mortality.

If it repeats a lot, it could be an indication of neurosis. Assuming that you see your own body in the tomb, it means that you are restructuring your life. Generally, the dream foretells a profound change in your existence.

Superstition says that you experienced a loss, but not necessarily death. Maybe you are dying spiritually and you will later be reborn. The celtic people considered cemeteries the uterus of Mother Earth, and that in them new spiritual life is born. Other interpretations claim that this dream foretells deception, and, curiously, news about a marriage.... The Big Dictionary of Dreams

Tongue

analysis of a dream

Julio dreamed: “I dreamt that my tongue itched a lot and I could not alleviate it. I tried to scratch it with my teeth but the taste buds, which were like enormous pink pimples, popped in my mouth, leaving a horrible bitter taste. I looked in the mirror and was shocked to see it so purple. It was a very stressful dream that left a bad taste in my mouth when I woke up.”

The tongue is strongly associated with the act of speaking. In Julio’s case, the dream was a warning for him to stop lying. At the time of the dream, Julio had problems with some friends because of his tendency to lie and talk badly about them. His unconscious was warning him of the “dirtiness” of his tongue and that he should solve it as soon as possible. The bad taste in his mouth is a reflection of the problems his attitude could cause.... The Big Dictionary of Dreams

TOMBSTONE

A tombstone marks a place where someone is buried. In the world of dreams, the death of a person is usually a sign that some way of being in the world is no longer serving you and needs to be sacrificed in order for growth and expansion to occur.

A tombstone indicates a need or desire to stay somewhat connected to that part of your psyche. For more layers of an interpretation, consider who the tombstone is representing; whoever the person is, it is the qualities that he or she possesses that have been released.

The tombstone indicates that the process has already occurred.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

TOMBSTONE / GRAVE

If the name of someone you know appears on a dream tombstone, ask yourself which characteristics you associate with that person and whether or not you should eradicate or change (kill) these characteristics in yourself.

If your attitude was sad in the dream, perhaps you need to reconsider your attitude towards that person and what they represent to you. For example, ask yourself if you need to be more polite, kind or unselfish if these are the qualities you associate with the person.

If the vision was of your own grave, this suggests problems you need to dig your way out of; if a grave is neglected, this is a reminder from your subconscious not to take your health or the good things in your life for granted.

If the tombstone was of someone you knew or loved who has died, you may also simply be experiencing a sense of nostalgia for those happy days when you could pay them a real-life visit. If, however, the person is not dead, this could be a warning that your relationship is in danger of dying unless you concentrate on keeping it alive in real life.

If a vault appears in your dream, this suggests a more tentative approach to change; in older cemeteries it is possible to peer into family vaults to see the coffins, so perhaps you are aware of the need for change but are not yet able to make a clean break with the past.

If you had to visit a mortuary in your dream, is this a sign that you do not want to let go of the past? Do lingering feelings of guilt or regret remain? Or has the past caught up with you? If you dream of your own coat of arms and can see it on a tomb or monument, this reflects a desire to rise above a perceived station and to be accepted by those you incorrectly assume to be your superiors. A common nightmare is to dream of being buried alive. This may be a symbol of guilt or it may suggest a need to move away from a bad influence that is threatening to overwhelm you.
