Dead

To dream of the dead, is usually a dream of warning.

If you see and talk with your father, some unlucky transaction is about to be made by you. Be careful how you enter into contracts, enemies are around you. Men and women are warned to look to their reputations after this dream.

To see your mother, warns you to control your inclination to cultivate morbidness and ill will towards your fellow creatures.

A brother, or other relatives or friends, denotes that you may be called on for charity or aid within a short time.

To dream of seeing the dead, living and happy, signifies you are letting wrong influences into your life, which will bring material loss if not corrected by the assumption of your own will force.

To dream that you are conversing with a dead relative, and that relative endeavors to extract a promise from you, warns you of coming distress, unless you follow the advice given you. Disastrous consequences could often be averted if minds could grasp the inner workings and sight of the higher or spiritual self.

The voice of relatives is only that higher self taking form to approach more distinctly the mind that lives near the material plane. There is so little congeniality between common or material natures that persons should depend upon their own subjectivity for true contentment and pleasure. Paracelsus says on this subject: ``It may happen that the soul of persons who have died perhaps fifty years ago may appear to us in a dream, and if it speaks to us we should pay special attention to what it says, for such a vision is not an illusion or delusion, and it is possible that a man is as much able to use his reason during the sleep of his body as when the latter is awake; and if in such a case such a soul appears to him and he asks questions, he will then hear that which is true. Through these solicitous souls we may obtain a great deal of knowledge to good or to evil things if we ask them to reveal them to us. Many persons have had such prayers granted to them. Some people that were sick have been informed during their sleep what remedies they should use, and after using the remedies, they became cured, and such things have happened not only to Christians, but also to Jews, Persians, and heathens, to good and to bad persons.’’ The writer does not hold that such knowledge is obtained from external or excarnate spirits, but rather through the personal _Spirit Glimpses_ that is in man.--AUTHOR. ... dead dream meaning

Donkey

To hear the distant braying filling space with melancholy, you will receive wealth and release from unpleasant bonds by the death of some person close to you.

If you see yourself riding on a donkey, you will visit foreign lands and make many explorations into places difficult of passage.

To see others riding donkeys, denotes a meagre inheritance for them and a toiling life.

To dream of seeing many of the old patriarchs traveling on donkeys, shows that the influence of Christians will be thrown against you in your selfish wantonness, causing you to ponder over the rights and duties of man to man.

To drive a donkey, signifies that all your energies and pluck will be brought into play against a desperate effort on the part of enemies to overthrow you.

If you are in love, evil women will cause you trouble.

To see one dead, denotes satiated appetites, resulting from licentious excesses.

To dream of drinking the milk of a donkey, denotes that whimsical desires will be gratified, even to the displacement of important duties.

If you see in your dreams a strange donkey among your stock, or on your premises, you will inherit some valuable effects.

To dream of coming into the possession of a donkey by present, or buying, you will attain to enviable heights in the business or social world, and if single, will contract a congenial marriage.

To dream of a white donkey, denotes an assured and lasting fortune, which will enable you to pursue the pleasures or studies that lie nearest your heart.

For a woman, it signals entrance into that society for which she has long entertained the most ardent desire. Woman has in her composition those qualities, docility and stubbornness, which tallies with the same qualities in the donkey; both being supplied from the same storehouse, mother Nature; and consequently, they would naturally maintain an affinity, and the ugliest phase of the donkey in her dreams are nothing but woman’s nature being sounded for her warning, or _vice versa_ when pleasure is just before her. ... donkey dream meaning

True Incident

this incident is related to a group of people living on the Island of Saqliyyah .

It is narrated that their king was bent on annihilating the Muslims.

For this, he prepared a powerful navy comprising of thousands of soldiers. At this point he saw a dream in which he saw himself mounted on an elephant while drums were beaten and trumpets were blown before him. When he awoke he summoned some of his clergymen and asked them to interpret the dream. They gave him the glad tiding of victory. He demanded proof from them for their interpretation.

The said that the elephant is the most powerful animal on land and mounting such a powerful animal means becoming the master of power and strength. And the beating of drums and blowings of trumpets are signs of happiness, ecstasy and victory. Also drums are only beaten in the presence of asking if there is some reason for happiness.

When the king heard this, he became both surprised and delighted. He then summoned some Jewish ulama and asked them for their interpretation. They also interpdreted the dream as a glad tiding of victory. He then called some Muslim ulamaa and demanded that they interpret the dream. They all pointed to an experienced aalim to respond to the king’s demand.

The aalim said to the king that he would interpret the dream only if he guaranteed their safety which he did.

The learned aalim interpreted the dream thus; “O king, I see no wisdom in your wanting to kill the Muslims and marching on them for this purpose. Please do not deploy your army for they will not return to you alive. They will be defeated and destroyed. And do not for one moment think that I give this interpretation because I am a Muslim”.

The king asked him for proof to which he replied that the Holy Book of Allah was the source for his proof. He quoted the verse: Have you not seen what your Lord had done to the people of the elephants. He recited the entire Soorah Feel.

The king said: “This is your proof regarding the elephants. What have you to say about the drums?” He recited the verse: And when the trumpet will be blowns, this will be a very hard day for the non-believers-not an easy one.

When the king heard this he became utterly shocked and perplexed since the shaikh’s explanation was rational and irrefutable.

To avoid embarrassment to himself he dismissed the sheikh and his colleagues saying that he would have believed him if he (the sheikh) were not a Muslim. But since he is a Muslim he is biased in his delivery of interpretation.

The Shaikh said: “You will soon find out for yourself, o king!”.

When the sheikh and his colleagues departed the king began to ponder deeply about what the sheikh had said. He became convinced and decided not to go ahead with his plans. When the clergy heard of this they approached him and urged him to go ahead with his plan. They reasoned with him not to believe the interpretation of the sheikh as he was a Muslim and a Muslim would obviously be opposed to king Muslims. They also sought his permission to kill the sheikh which he refused. They continued to incite him against the Muslim and urged him to go ahead with his plans. He had no choice but to accede. He deployed a huge army under the command of his son.

The two sides met in the middle of the sea.

For three days a fierce battle ensued between the Muslims and non-Muslims. One the third day the Christians army was defeated. Not a single person was spared. When the king came to learn about this, he called for the sheikh and admitted his folly before him. He then secretly accepted Islam at his hands and bestowed many of his favours on him.

It is said that he also learned the Holy Qur’aan by the Shaikh and this affair of the king became popular in Saqliyyah.... true incident dream meaning

To a modern pagan, however, this date honors the spring, fertility, and earth’s renewal, the implied symbolism being productivity, hope, or healthful rejuvenation.

Rose

A symbol of Venus—love and devotion.

The contradiction of blossom and thorn.

The rose plays the same role in the West that the lotus plays in the Orient. Both blossom, producing many thousands of petals, and represent the highest stage of consciousness.

The rose is often a symbol of the self. As a well-known symbol of love, it points to the dreamer’s feeling of security and suggests that he should be more open to love.

The Greek word rodor for rose came from the ancient Greek word for “flowing,” which may have been coined to convey the flow of fragrance from this flower. But this never-ending flow of fragrance from the rose also shortens its life, causing it to wilt rapidly. Because this magnificently flowering, fragrant blossom wilts so fast, it is also considered a symbol of death.

The rose also points to the world beyond, which is the reason that the Catacombs in Rome are decorated with garlands of roses.

The rose also is the harbinger of death in the Oraclesy and it is reported that a few days before their death, bishops would find a white rose on their chair.

The belief in the death-announcing rose has influenced customs in England and Germany, where people have been reluctant to bring roses to a sick person. And if a rose bush produced a green rose—that is, when the petals turned green—as English folklore had it, a family member would die.

It is not only in England that the rose is connected with death. As far back as ancient Rome, every year a festival of the roses was celebrated where the dead were honored. Graves were decorated with wreaths made from roses.

Since time immemorial, what happens in the presence of the rose is not talked about. In antiquity, when a rose was suspended above the table, the meal was taken “sub rosa,” as it was called then, which means that absolutely nothing from the conversation was repeated after the meal.

The early Christians took up this symbolic tradition: the presence of a rose indicated that silence was to be observed when heathens were among them.

The rose as the symbol for silence continued into the 18th century, when, for instance, wooden roses were carved into the woodwork of the confessional and roses were also included in the stucco of the halls of the court.

The rose, like the lotus, is considered the perfect flower, which is one of the reasons why the Christian Church declared it to be the image of wisdom. This was instrumental in the rose becoming a symbol of Christ. Mary is also depicted as a rose, but a rose without thorns, because in Christian symbolism the thorns of the rose indicate sin, and Mary was free of sin.

The rose has something very mystical about it. Praying the rosary is considered meditation.

The Sufis pray with a drop of rose fragrance dabbed on the area of the “third eye,” because it is said that the rose cleanses and strengthens the spirit. In ancient Greece a wreath of roses was already thought to strengthen the mind.

The Roman Emperor wore a wreath of roses for the same reason. Romans wore wreaths made from roses during decadent outdoor feasts, because they hoped the roses would minimize the effects of too much drinking.

The rose as the image of a clear mind was also known to the alchemists, who connected the rose to the idea of deliverance. In Dante’s Paradiso the small group of saved sinners is pictured in the form of a white rose above which angels circle like bees. That the way to salvation is possible only through love is perhaps the most important lesson of the rose, the flower originally dedicated to Aphrodite, goddess of love. But that the rose also symbolizes flesh and blood is seen in the fact that Dionysus also claimed the rose to be his.

Time and again we hear about a rose bush that never stops blooming; about rose branches in a vase that for 70 years produced white blossoms; and about how the food for the poor that, in the basket of saints, is transformed into roses.

For those interested in the magic of the rose, we might also mention the Pentagram of the Rose.

If you connect the center of each petal with the center of the petal that comes after the next, you will form a pentagram, the foot of the Druids, the old magic figure that Faust wanted to use to overcome Satan.

The Greeks considered the long-lived, five-leaved rose bush, with the imprint of a pentagram, to be the symbol of the cycle of the Cosmos, which, according to Aristotle, is determined by the five elements (fire, water, earth, air, and ether). Also, the Rosicrucians see the rose as a symbol of hidden wisdom, using it as a symbol in their cross.

The color of the rose is also important.

A wilted rose is a sign of a relationship gone bad. According to Jung, the rose is always the symbol for wholeness, representing, in the form of the mandala, a symbol for the order of the world.... rose dream meaning

Crystal

(1) A crystal may be a symbol of the self (for self). Dr Marie-Louise von Franz writes in Man and His Symbols: The mathematically precise arrangement of a crystal evokes in us the intuitive feeling that even in so-called “dead” matter there is a spiritual ordering principle at work. Thus the crystal often symbolically stands for the union of extreme opposites - of matter and spirit.’ The self, too (which Christians have called the image of God in the human being), is a union of opposites - conscious and unconscious, masculine and feminine, and so on.

(2) A crystal may be a symbol of purity and innocence, openness and receptiveness.... crystal dream meaning

Door

(1) A door may represent an opening to a new phase of life or a possible new development - either in your external circumstances or in yourself.

(2) It may symbolize an invitation to enter the not-yet-explored parts of your psyche, with a view to bringing these under conscious control.

(3) If someone / something is on the other side of the door, this probably means you need to let something come out of vour unconscious into your conscious mind.

(4) The symbolism may be that which Christians apply to the Christ: the way to ‘salvation’ - that is, healing and wholeness. (Compare St

John’s Gospel 10:9: ‘I am the door. By me, if anyone enters in, he shall be saved’.)

(5) A closed door may symbolize A ‘no-go’ situation. You need to determine whether the impasse is unavoidable and therefore to be accepted (because, for instance, you have been pursuing a path that is out of keeping with your deepest values or needs) or one that you have artificially made for yourself (as a consequence of irrational guilt- feelings and anxiety, for instance) and can therefore remove by an act of will - though it may require a lot of preparatory work by way of investigating the (partly) unconscious psychic processes that have constructed the obstacle.... door dream meaning

Abbey

All religious buildings in dreams can be interpreted, roughly, in the same manner. The abbey symbolizes questions or concerns—in the intellectual, moral or spiritual realm of our life—that are about to emerge. When a building appears in a dream, it usually represents the dreamer herself, her body, or the different levels of her mind. An abbey is a sacred place and not lavish, like your true Self.

If the abbey is old, it is advisable to consult the old stories of the Celtic tradition and the first Christians; their valuable knowledge will favor your spiritual awakening.

Although almost all faiths believe dreaming of an abbey is a good omen, there are some different superstitions. When the dreamer is a young woman, this dream predicts disease. And, if the abbey is in ruins, it means that your plans will fail. However, if the path to access it is blocked, you will be safe from a painful mistake.... abbey dream meaning

Cat

Symbol of the feminine. To dream that a cat wants you to pet it indicates that someone is trying to seduce you.

If it scratches you, you should expect professional jealousy. The color of the animal carries its secondary symbolism. So, black cats are usually associated with darkness and death, but this kind of analogy only works on superstitious people.

In mythology, the figure of the cat was associated with the pagan fertility gods who represented the power and wisdom of nature. Similarly, for the Egyptians, cats were sacred and they guarded the souls of the dead. It was not until the arrival of the Christians when they began to be considered evil relatives of witches. For this reason, many books on dreams affirm that cats presage disadvantages.

CAT - analysis of the dream

Marta dreamed: “I was petting Gea [her precious Persian kitten] when she turned to me and said: ‘pretty, more than pretty.’ I was delighted that my cat could talk, I knew she was very clever... but this was too much! Suddenly, her feline face transformed into John’s, but now she did not speak. He rather emitted terrible barking sounds and foam was coming out his mouth. I tried to hold him and calm him but he slipped out of my hands like a lizard.”

One of the most magical and intense forces of our oneiric world is transformation: animals that become people; individuals who transform into trees, monsters, or other persons; buildings that disappear... These transformations are almost always a sign of psychological changes in our lives. When Martha had this dream she had just had a little argument with her boyfriend. This dream was warning her that she should be more considerate and attentive to him. To dream that a cat is seeking you to pet her indicates that someone is trying to seduce or feels strongly attracted to you. In the case of Marta it reflected her boyfriend’s devotion and love for her. However, the fact that he first transformed into a fierce dog and then an elusive lizard denotes that such affection could also vanish or turn into resentment if she did not contribute to keep it up. The fact that she was gently petting her kitten and that the latter talked to praise Marta indicates Marta’s ability to transmit affection and the certainty that all would be fixed with dialogue.... cat dream meaning

Cross

The cross is a symbol present in all cultures, therefore, it has multiple references. There are many types and each of them refers to its own meaning. For example, the Greek cross (with four arms of equal length) expressed wholeness; Native Americans used to draw crosses to represent the partition of the universe. For Christians, it means suffering, martyrdom, death, and sacrifice. In general, you can see, in its most simple representation, the four cardinal points and the image of the human body with arms outstretched. In the first case, you should interpret this dream as the need to make a decision on an issue makes you worried. However, if you link the cross to the human body this symbol suggests that you need to restore balance, as well as being consistent with yourself.

From a mystical point of view, the cross symbolizes the division nature in four sets: four seasons, four directions, four elements... Formerly, the cross contained the ideal human body.

It is also associated with the power of arboreal life.... cross dream meaning

Three

Considered by the ancient Greeks to be the perfect number, three represents the union of mind, body and spirit and for Christians it is a symbol of Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Three signifies life, freedom, vitality, inner strength, completion, imagination, creativity, energy and self-exploration. Three stands for trilogy, as in the past, present, and future or father, mother, and child. For Freud, three is a symbol of the male genitals. It can also indicate impatience, overconfidence and relationship troubles, as in ‘three is a crowd’. Its shape is the triangle, which is a symbol of the creative force. Three is the number of the Empress Tarot card, which represents the feminine principles of fertility and nurture.... three dream meaning

A Brief History Of Dream Interpretation

‘Now Allah has created the dream not only as a means of guidance and instruction, I refer to the dream, but he has made it a window on the World of the Unseen.’
Mohammed, the Prophet

Ancient art and literature are crowded with references to dreams. For thousands of years dreams have been credited with supernatural or prophetic significance by the majority of the world’s spiritual traditions. The Bible, for instance, makes it clear that dreams are divine messages and this explanation for dreams was shared by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, all of whom also believed that dreams had healing powers.

Certain cultures, such as the Australian Aborigines and many African and Native American tribes, have always believed dreaming to be a way in which an individual can enter into the collective spirit memory. To this day, dream pooling plays an important role in those societies where tribal members gather together for the purpose of interpreting dreams. Another view is held by the Inuit of Hudson Bay in Canada, who believe that when a person falls asleep and dreams, their soul goes wandering.

The Egyptians are thought to have been the first to develop a system of contrary dream interpretation; a positive dream, for example, predicts misfortune and a nightmare predicts an improvement in waking fortunes. They produced the earliest known dream dictionary, written approximately 4,000 years ago. Now called the Chester Beatty Papyrus, it came from Thebes in Egypt and is kept in the British Museum.

It was the ancient Greeks, however, who first proposed the theory that dreams were not from some external, divine source but internal communications, or the divine spark within. Plato (427-347 BC) suggested that dreams were expressions of a person’s hidden desires, whilst his pupil Aristotle (384-322 BC) speculated that dreams shared similar themes and were not divine oracles but coincidences. It was the ‘father of medicine’ Hippocrates (460-377 BC) who proposed that dream symbols reflect the state of the dreamer’s body—for example, fire denoted indigestion—and should be regarded as valuable diagnostic tools.

The first fully-fledged dream researcher to focus on dream symbols and dream themes was a Roman living in Greek Asia Minor called Artemidorus (AD 138-180), who wrote a book about dream interpretation that is still in print. As far as Artemidorus was concerned, dream symbols had certain meanings but the most important aspect of dream interpretation was the symbols’ personal significance to the dreamer, along with the dreamer’s personal circumstances.

In much of Europe, even though the early Christians respected dreams for their spiritual significance, the repressive control of the Roman Catholic Church put a stop to any attempts at dream interpretation. By the fifteenth century, dreams were regarded as no longer significant or important. Even a century or so later, Shakespeare called them ‘children of the idle brain’. This school of thought persisted into the eighteenth century, when dreams were still thought to be meaningless.

In the early nineteenth century, when the restrictive influence of the Church began to wane and members of the German Romantic movement—in their quest for spontaneous expression—rediscovered the potential of dreams, a revival of interest in dream interpretation began to trickle into the mainstream with the publication of popular dream dictionaries such as Raphael’s Royal Book of Dreams (1830). The stage was now set for Freud and Jung; two men who continue to have the greatest impact on the way we interpret dreams today.... a brief history of dream interpretation dream meaning
